Video of how to play The Ottomans.
This will tell you what to expect out of the special units, what to expect out of the playstyle, and what victory conditions to expect to dominate with.

Victory Conditions
Hello, if you really didn't want to watch the video I'll give a quick rundown of what you probably should be thinking if you are randomly paired up with the Ottomans or are just new to Civilization and think they would be fun to play!

Victory Conditions

  • Domination
At first glance you may think the Ottomans do not have a very strong personality trait, but if you are playing on a predominately water based map - you will dominate like no other. They basically do not pay anything for their ships. Not only that but you will receive ships prior to the Privateer (which has a chance to steal ships) and it lasts the entire game. One of the best Naval Civilizations to play. Not only that but the Janissary and the Sipahi are strong units for offensive attacks. Highly Recommended.

  • Science
You'll be alongside the water, you'll want to conquer. Add that into an equation and you'll have a formula for a Scientific Victory. Why is that? Well, generally, the more cities you have on the water gives you more of a reason to choose Commerce as a Social Policy which increases science based on your money making buildings. Chances are you'll have quite a few cities to boot thus allowing you to generate quite a bit of science. Recommended.

  • Diplomatic
Unfortunately, the most predominant way of getting people to vote you into the UN will be through fear. Generally, that does not work and results in wars until you conquer every living soul and tell them to eat Turkey all day long. The Ottomans do not have a personality trait to aid them in a Diplomatic Victory. Not Recommended.

  • Culture
If you are staying small and capturing little tug boats out around your coast the other Civilizations will begin to wonder what is wrong with you. You should pursue aggressive playstyle and not long for the arts and crafts. Someone looking like they are going to beat you a Cultural Victory? Just smash their work of art over their heads. Ottomans do not have a personality trait helping in any manner of a Cultural Victory. Not Recommended.
Social Policies
Won't get into as depth as the Victory Conditions only because Social Policies can usually go anyway for any Civ and still win. Will only note those that are very important to each Civ.
  • Liberty
Rapid expansion is key for any Domination/Science based win. Granted you can win a Scientific Victory without being the largest Civilization in the game. Nonetheless, the added worker, settler, free Great Person, and other benefits will do leaps and bounds for you. The more land, the more troops to take more from others.

  • Commerce
For the most part you'll want to build up along the coastal parts of a Continent. Why is that? You'll be able to get science out of Markets, Mints, etc., you'll get more production out of coastal cities, extra happiness from luxury resources, and more. Most importantly it ties in with the Domination Victory to aid you in having a stronger navy to dominate the other players.
The rest are really up to you on how you're playstyle will be for policies, Tradition for hunkering down with few cities - Honor for cutting down enemies early on - Liberty for expanding like a mad-man but again, that goes for any Civ, not just the Ottomans.
Factoids
  • The Temple of Artemis (Diana), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was outside Ephesus. It was destroyed by an arsonist who merely wanted to be remembered in history for doing something "grand."

  • Istanbul is the only city in the world built on two continents.

  • Tradition in Turkey says that a stranger at one’s doorstep is considered "God’s guest" for at least three days.

  • The first church dedicated to Virgin Mary is in Ephesus.

  • St. Nicholas, the inspiration for the modern Santa Claus, was born in Demre, on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey.

  • Turkey is one of the few countries in the world that is agriculturally self-sufficient.

  • One of the first churches (possibly the first as the exact dates are unknown) of Christianity is in Antakya (Antioch), the Church of St. Peter.
