Video of how to play The Huns.
This will tell you what to expect out of the special units, what to expect out of the playstyle, and what victory conditions to expect to dominate with.

Victory Conditions
Hello, if you really didn't want to watch the video I'll give a quick rundown of what you probably should be thinking if you are randomly paired up with the Huns or are just new to Civilization and think they would be fun to play.

Victory Conditions

  • Domination
If you are paired up with the Huns, it is all about warfare. The Huns history is all about warfare. So you should be about warfare. Considering you have Animal Husbandry out of the gate this means that you are probably going to be the first one with mounted units. Tie that together with some Battering Rams and you have yourself one of the most feared armies of the early game. You can easily take everyone out if your strategy is planned correctly. This is highly recommended.

  • Science
Is a bit more feasible compared to the other victory conditions outside of the obvious Domination Victory. Chances are you've conquered many cities and will be generating much Science thus thrusting you into one of the smartest Civ's in game. Most people, myself including, would just finish off the job rather than stop conquering to discover most tech and build the Apollo Program. Somewhat recommended..... if you're a wuss!

  • Diplomatic
The Huns diplomatic? What? Treason! Again, not really a Civilization that would be considered a great to go for Diplomatic Victory unless you have everyone in so much fear of you they think you are an angel. Not recommended.

  • Cultural
Culturally Atilla has close to nothing going for him in this category. He is all about militiristic might, not the arts and crafts. So, unfortunately, if you are looking for a Culturally sounds Civ this is NOT the one for you. Anything is possible in Civilization but this is not favorable. Not at all recommended.
Social Policies
Won't get into as depth as the Victory Conditions only because Social Policies can usually go anyway for any Civ and still win. Will only note those that are very important to each Civ.
  • Honor
Fight! Fight! Fight! Gain fast bonus' and forget about keeping cities unless you have to because a Capital is supposed to be worth keeping? Regardless, Honor is usually used in certain situational spots but all the Huns know is war so that's situational enough for you! Recommended.

  • Autocracy
If somehow everyone is still alive at this point in the game it's VERY important you obtain this to finish off the job. If you are dominating and are one of the first to get this or complete the tree you will absolutely make everyone cry until they've killed themselves. Highly recommended.
The rest are really up to you on how you're playstyle will be for policies, Tradition for hunkering down with few cities - Honor for cutting down enemies early on - Liberty for expanding like a mad-man but again, that goes for any Civ, not just the Huns.
Factoids
Unfortunately, not much is known about Atilla nor The Huns outside of their bloodthirsty ways. Here is a little biography instead!

  • The Huns first appear in European records at the end of the 4th century A.D., when they descended from the Steppes and attacked the Germanic tribes on the northeastern edge of the Roman Empire, either subjecting them or driving them into the empire. By the 430s the scattered nomadic bands had been united into a powerful force which attacked both Germans and Romans alike.

If you are looking to build a religion with this civ, I found "God of War" and "Just War"(especially the latter) were very nice beliefs to have. Eying one of your neighbors? Be sure to send over a peaceful monk first for that sweet +20% combat. :p (assuming this neighbor will survive long enough for this to be relavent of course).

I would also greatly recommend exploring the commerce tree, it brings extra money, much needed to cover the cost of your army and the +2 happiness for each luxury can save you from an extremely unhappy empire because of your conquests

Well, it's not necessarily a "ruin" upgrade exclusively as you can build it on your own anyhow.

It's when you purposely build these units in conjunction with other melee units is when it's absolutely devastating and so much that you could easily win a Domination game fairly quickly.

Remember that the Battering Ram replacement over a Warrior is a good indication that as soon as you find another Civilization it's time for war - even if you've only got 1-2 other melee units, even as simple as a Scout as the Battering Ram is powerful enough early game that it help take cities that effectively.

Thanks for checking out my video and the input, always appreciate it!

This is one group I find hard to play for one reason but I do understand them a bit.

The battering ram is a "ruin upgrade" for your warrior unit. Meaning you can hit the first ruin with your only warrior and get upgraded to a batterhing ram that cannot hit other units. This can be rather painful at the start when you suddenly have a unit that can't do diddly but bash on cities.

The good side: It has a stronger attack against cities than a Trebuchet (the upgrade from the Catapult) - at 30 attack against a city vs 28 from a Trebuchet (300% attack strength vs 200% against cities respectively). They are devestatingly powerful early game when nobody will have that strong a city while you can push these out to attack them.

It's just that early upgrade to a "can't hit barbarian archers nor warriors" that can really hurt - avoid tapping ruins with your warrior units early on unless you hope to get one of these. :D:
