Update: 3 Nov, 2024 @ 9:58pm

Back to incorporating shinobi and terrorists into this mod.

- Grasshopper cannon not done, still needs to be dealt with. Use a Coehorn for a model?
- Terrorist, Shinobi added but not tested. Still have concerns regarding (A) Shinobi training and (B) viability of changes to craftrules.x.

NOTICE (24.11/11)

The early modern period was a watershed moment in the history of all mankind. It didn't just witness the rise of unprecedented technological innovation in industry, but the emergence of a single crucial idea: that all human beings are equal, and so are worthy not just of freedom, but are also deserving of peace, dignity and perpetual harmony.

This one idea underpins the whole of global civilization and the benefits we as human beings enjoy, but has come increasingly under threat, thus we as members of the human race are obliged to further strive to attain and maintain them, be it as individuals contributing on our own, or as an international collective working together across all borders and seas. INTRO

"The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present.”
—Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)

As its name suggests, Forge of Storms[modernity.fandom.com] is a sub-mod meant to be a sequel to Ultima Ratio[modernity.fandom.com] and extends the scope and timeline of Ultima Ratio well beyond the Napoleonic Wars and towards the end of the 19th century, eventually covering several more conflicts in the process, most notably the all-consuming American Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War. Like all Rise of Nations mods, it has its own set of 24 factions as well as its own wonders, all loosely based on the Rise of Napoleon mod by Ray Tang.

FEATURES

In addition to Ultima Ratio...

History, expanded.
This time, post-1830s conflicts and colonial wars are now investigated and reflected in this mod, ranging from Siam's and Vietnam's bids for independence, in addition to more well known flashpoints in Europe and the New World.

Custom units & structures
- Unit makeovers. Some units, including Danish kanonchalup, Rocket artillery, Barbary corsairs and the ship of the line all received new skins and animations.
- More and more historical units, ranging from Peruvian breñeros irregulars to zouaves, Greek tribal militia and even Texan cavalry and machine guns.
- More naval units and artillery units, courtesy of Petar Tsarev[p2t5r.itch.io].
- A whole new complement of weapons, ranging from rifled guns to torpedo boats and submarines form the arsenals of this mod chapter.
- A vast new array of Wonders and defensive structures await your build orders.

19th century historicity
- Updated tech tree to reflect the 19th century and its most prominent technological, organizational and cultural developments.
- Politics, intrigue and asymmetric warfare options. Unleash terror upon your opponents with Spies and Terrorists and Partisans.

PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE GETTING CRASHES OF ANY KIND

While we take pains to ensure a smooth player experience, we nevertherless advise players to take note of all the following data whenever they start a new game:

- Factions chosen
- Map size
- Presence of snow/water
- (if a crash occurs) what you were doing and what age you were in when it happened.

These are issues that are being looked at and which should be corrected in future.

In the meantime we advise strongly against the use of random players. For best results, you should take down notes on which games had snow or navigable ocean, and what factions were used. Why not use a virtual dice thrower to select the factions for you instead?

[24.19/10]

Wonder replacements.

Decided to insert 5 new Wonders, to replace the old botched National Projects system with five new Wonders: shared or restricted Wonders.
These Wonders do not host technologies on their own, but are themselves quite powerful, and unlike the others are shared - somewhat - between two different civs each and are:

- Admiralty (Sagres Point from Rise of Kings) - replaces Space Programme. Built by Netherlands/Portugal, but is notably costlier and weaker.
- Alabaster Mosque of Cairo - replaces Colossus. Requires Autocracy (Red 2 Govt). Built by Ottomans, for now, but is expected to be shared with Bedouin Tribes in Chapter 3.
- India Gateway - replaces Kremlin. Built by India/Britain, requires New Course (Red 3 Govt) and is notably costly. Makes Britain and India harder to invade.
- National Stock Exchange - replaces Supercollider. Requires Liberalism and Imperial Age. Again, built by Britain/USA, but is costly and has a low WP score.
- Zamek Królewski w Warszawie - replaces Terra Cotta Army / Royal Military Academy. Built by Austria/Russia. Requires Sovereign Rights (Red 1 Govt), functions like an entertainment centre (you can train spies, agents and research attrition research here). The old Military Academy skin will be used to replace the Stable/Cantonment.

The reason why these Wonders are shared by two or more civs is to create some dynamics and conflict between different civs. For instance, the availability of the National Stock Exchange or the Admiralty are meant to simulate historic rivalries between Holland and Portugal, or Britain and the USA

TO-DO:

- Submarines - Toro class, Hunley class, not done.
- Vietnam and Thailand rosters not finalised.
