NOTICE (24.11/11)

The 19th century CE was a watershed moment in the history of all mankind. INTRO

The final argument of kings. —inscription of French cannon cast by Louis XIV of France (1638-1715)

Ultima Ratio is the first Chapter of Rise of the Moderns, and covers 24 factions of the Imperial Era. While it concentrates primarily on the career of Napoleon Bonaparte, it also covers a period of at least 3 decades after his exile and death.

In Ultima Ratio you will get to discover the world of the early 19th century. A world of intrigue and bloody-minded ambition set against the gradually quickening pace of life under the wonders of science and industry. From the battlefields of Europe and America to the mountains of India, a whole new world awaits those who are able to have the final say in global affairs.

Like all Rise of Nations mods, Ultima Ratio also has its own set of custom-designed factions as well as its own wonders, all loosely based on the Rise of Napoleon mod by Ray Tang.

FEATURES

The original Rise of Napoleon, but with a twist.......

- New naval units and artillery units. While Rise of Napoleon ended in the 1820s, Ultima Ratio now covers not just Rise of Napoleon, but also the technologies and units of the pre-1860s era.
- A massive slew of units have been added to non-Western factions.
- An updated tech tree to reflect thee 19th centiry .... and its major intellectual, social and technological development.
- A vast new array of defensive structures awaits your build orders.
- Bugs involving buildings, especially forts and castles, have been zapped — along with various historical inaccuracies
- Fixing the building system - various bugs impede research and prevent units that were originally meant to be trained from being recruited by human players:
- Multiple defensive buildings - meant to cater to different levels of wealth and development, with Blockhouses being the cheapest but not being able to be garrisoned, and mighty Citadels and Fortresses meant to represent the all-new polygonal systems of fortification in 19th century Europe.
- Entertainment districts - pubs and public buildings - will have new graphics associated with them. The Public Building will be given the very Malaysian name of "Rest House", since this better describes the function of such buildings beyond Europe.
- Unit makeovers. Some units, including Danish kanonchalup, Rocket artillery, Barbary corsairs and the ship of the line all received new skins and animations.
- New factions: Iran and Bavaria. These replace the former Canadian and Westphalian factions from Rise of Napoleon.
- More politically correcthistorically accurate non-European factions.
o Lakota: loses the Buffalo Braves, but gets Spearmen who are shared with many non-European factions.
o China: no more: Manchu Palace Guard, instead there are Imperial Halberdiers, Green Banner Musketeers, Manchu Musketeers as well as Tiger Men.
o India: army is reformed to resemble that of Mysore's.
o Turkey: Graphics overhaul for Janissaries, introduction of Nizam e Cedit cavalry and infantry.
o Egypt, Maghreb - different set of bonuses for Maghreb.

PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE GETTING CRASHES OF ANY KIND

While we take pains to ensure a smooth player experience, we nevertherless advise players to take note of all the following data whenever they start a new game:

- Factions chosen
- Map size
- Presence of snow/water
- (if a crash occurs) what you were doing and what age you were in when it happened.

These are issues that are being looked at and which should be corrected in future.

In the meantime we advise strongly against the use of random players. For best results, you should take down notes on which games had snow or navigable ocean, and what factions were used. Why not use a virtual dice thrower to select the factions for you instead?

@mostgraetpaontiff: Thank you for your reply.

As of today, we checked all four links for Rise of the Moderns' 2 chapters, hosted at https://www.patreon.com/posts/rise-of-moderns-23158613 , and none of them have been found to be compromised thus far.

For this mod, please use links under the header: "[MOE1 v 1.0.25 / MOD1 v 1.3.2] Ultima Ratio".
For chapter 2, please use links under the header: "[MOE2 v 1.1.0 / MOD2 v 1.1.0] Forge of Storms"

If you have further complaints or suggestions, do not hesitate to PM me on Steam Chat.

DO NOT USE OTHER LINKS as they are NOT ACTIVE.

I was going to try and download a version for Gold from the Patreon, it's a bit confusing. It says there is only the Steam version, but there are still links for Gold/Steam Injection. The Mods Base link seems to ultimately be some sort of spam with no actual download, and the Google Drive version leads to some seemingly random file (greataxe2_Egyot).

Just thought I'd mention, it's a bit unclear.

Thanks.
