This mod is in the process of being tested, and there are rumours of bugs. We need you, dear players, to try this mod out, and to record down any bugs that take place during gameplay.

For now, it is in effect a playable fork of Rise of the Moderns: Ultima Ratio, which can be accessed at https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1437322150

No major changes, ie no new units or structures have been added beyond what is currently available with Ultima Ratio. But that may change between Chinese New Year and Easter 2022.....

[24.28/5]
Torpedo boats are now available to all, except Texas, Denmark, Morocco and Naples.

Balance.x has been rewritten, with some changes including:

o Light infantry are more impervious to cannon shot.
o Cannon is lethal against other siege weapons, particularly Flying Artillery.
o Fire ships and Torpedo boats are now more devastating against wooden vessels (the Dutch Hellebrander is especially effective) but are very vulnerable to shore defence buildings.
o Non-ironclad surface vessels take longer to destroy certain fortifications.

It is also now a very bad idea to attempt to attack Vietnam or Thailand without naval support. Setinggars now have an attack bonus versus any and all light shipping (but not fire vessels).

Light infantry are (mostly) done for the two Ages of this mod. French, British and Russian rosters expanded - with France now recruiting Foreign Legion units from the Presidio. Expect the updates on this mod to slacken in pace, once Peru gets the Huascar and Guarnicion de Marina units.

[TBA ETA unknown]
A new modern unit system for China is being put in place. China will no longer recruit cheap infantry in the late game, rather it will still be a cavalry-heavy civ like Russia, Mexico, America and Iran.

[28-9.3.22]
Thanks to declan1542 (and a very good stroke of luck) we figured out that the crashes were being caused by corrupt animation data. I've since figured it out, through a good deal of brute force, and replaced the data. The game seems to work fine now.

[26.3.22]
Rewrote the entire core from scratch. It is still incomplete and untested, in that I wish to flatten unit tech trees for [3] and [4] further to prevent the probability of a crash.

Fort and merc units have been purged. I have long suspected that a flaw in unitrules.x has been wreaking havoc on people's games and I want to find out what it is before I start adding units back in.

Unfortunately, the bug is still around but thanks to a Papal States/Lakota matchup, I noticed that the game began to freeze the moment Rifle Infantry opened fire. I must investigate to see if this is the case.

[25.3.22]
After a gruelling 24 hours where we did all sorts of things - data corruption checks, verification and reinstallation, this mod is back in business. We looked through various files, and in addition to restoring several files, we also edited anim_graphics.x and transferred legacy RKC and AXP files to their appropriate location.

NOTICE (24.11/11)

The early modern period was a watershed moment in the history of all mankind. It didn't just witness the rise of unprecedented technological innovation in industry, but the emergence of a single crucial idea: that all human beings are equal, and so are worthy not just of freedom, but are also deserving of peace, dignity and perpetual harmony.

Today, however, THESE THINGS ARE UNDER GREATER THREAT than never before, even as the need for them has all but increased. We at Beelim Solutions[www.patreon.com] thus humbly ask, that should you have enjoyed this mod, you make a donation to any or all of the charities listed below.

INTRO

"The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present.”
—Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)

As its name suggests, Forge of Storms[modernity.fandom.com] is a sub-mod meant to be a sequel to Ultima Ratio[modernity.fandom.com] and extends the scope and timeline of Ultima Ratio well beyond the Napoleonic Wars and towards the end of the 19th century, eventually covering several more conflicts in the process, most notably the all-consuming American Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War. Like all Rise of Nations mods, it has its own set of 24 factions as well as its own wonders, all loosely based on the Rise of Napoleon mod by Ray Tang.

FEATURES

In addition to Ultima Ratio...

History, expanded.
This time, post-1830s conflicts and colonial wars are now investigated and reflected in this mod, ranging from Siam's and Vietnam's bids for independence, in addition to more well known flashpoints in Europe and the New World.

Custom units & structures
- Unit makeovers. Some units, including Danish kanonchalup, Rocket artillery, Barbary corsairs and the ship of the line all received new skins and animations.
- More and more historical units, ranging from Peruvian breñeros irregulars to zouaves, Greek tribal militia and even Texan cavalry and machine guns.
- More naval units and artillery units, courtesy of Petar Tsarev[p2t5r.itch.io].
- A whole new complement of weapons, ranging from rifled guns to torpedo boats and submarines form the arsenals of this mod chapter.
- A vast new array of Wonders and defensive structures await your build orders.

19th century historicity
- New factions and new powers have been added. The number of German and Muslim factions have been reduced, but new Asian and American factions, including Mexico and Texas are now present.
- Updated tech tree to reflect the 19th century and its most prominent technological, organizational and cultural developments.
- Politics, intrigue and asymmetric warfare options. Unleash terror upon your opponents with Spies and Terrorists and Partisans.

PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE GETTING CRASHES OF ANY KIND

While we take pains to ensure a smooth player experience, we nevertherless advise players to take note of all the following data whenever they start a new game:

- Factions chosen
- Map size
- Presence of snow/water
- (if a crash occurs) what you were doing and what age you were in when it happened.

These are issues that are being looked at and which should be corrected in future.

In the meantime we advise strongly against the use of random players. For best results, you should take down notes on which games had snow or navigable ocean, and what factions were used. Why not use a virtual dice thrower to select the factions for you instead?

Rise of the Moderns features a series of mods for the award-winning game Rise of Nations. and is in effect a total conversion to depict the main forces that shaped our world, beginning from the 17th century and ending in the 1920s with the rise of Communism and Fascism in Europe.

《摩登帝国》有一系列获殊荣的游戏《国家的兴起》(RISE OF NATIONS)的MOD,描绘了塑造我们世界的主要力量,从 17 世纪开始到 1920 年代结束。

Intended to replicate the rise of the Early Modern Period until the Interbellum, all the mods in this series use a common tech tree called the "Rise of the Moderns" tech system. Each mod is being developed in several "chapters", each one a stand-alone mod by itself, and like Rise of Kings, Warbirth, and Kings & Conquerors, concentrate mainly on epic play: booming and expanding are the main business of player, as opposed to the New World Empires series which concentrates more on rushing and deathmatches.

As many as 3 chapters are envisioned for the Rise of the Moderns project.

Chapter 1: Ultima Ratio : this is essentially a rehash of ODA's renowned Rise of Napoleon mod and the first of all Rise of the Moderns mods to use its tech tree system.
Chapter 2: Forge of Storms : replaces some of the playable civs of Chapter 1, but extends the timeline away from the 1830s to the 1890s. This mod is currently still being worked on.
Chapter 3: Rise of the Moderns: Children of Empires : This is meant to represent the classic Rise of the Moderns experience.
In addition, we are also developing five other mods which utilise parts of Rise of the Moderns:

New World Empires : two chapters of this series - The Southeastern Dragon and Fallen Giants - can be considered as a historic prequel and sequel to Rise of the Moderns in its entirety, with Fallen Giants itself overlapping with the first chapter of Age of Darkness.
Age of Darkness : the first chapter of this series covers global history from 1917 to 1946. While it has its own tech tree and ultimately, its own unit roster independent of Rise of the Moderns, this mod chapter piggybacks on assets embedded into Ultima Ratio itself.
Warbirth : The Raj of Steam and Steel reuses Rise of the Moderns' building tech tree as well as the last two tiers of Rise of the Moderns' units as it depicts a world still struggling to re-industrialise after a major cataclysm.
Fall of Nations : Cormodagor reuses Rise of the Moderns' building tech tree system albeit in a fantasy setting.
Only the Steam versions of New World Empires are available, although we do plan on releasing this mod to the Legacy Gold community once we feel it is fit to do so.
