It's probably the best non-fromsoft souls we got. The artstyle, the environment and the music are in my opinion amazing. Especially in the explorable non-boss portions of the game you can really immerse yourself in the environment and story, and genuinely have a great time.

The only reason that it gets downvoted for me is because of how bad the combat system and the cheese mechanics are.

The parry system (or perfect guard as it's called here) even though is deemed by the community to be non-necessary, it really is. There are bosses in the mid to late game that depending on how good or bad your luck is, they might literally chain multiple red (un-dodgable) attacks. If you fail to parry, you are done. Parry window is extremely narrow, and very hard to master, and its difficulty depends on how well the attacks of the boss are telegraphed, and if you can even see them. In some cases, you cannot, and you literally have to start counting specific attacks down to the millisecond if you don't want to get clapped. Great example of that in my opinion is the green monster on chapter 8.

I acknowledge that this is currently part of this game's difficulty, but at some point it's important to be able to distinguish and isolate poor design choices on specific areas, so that we can get a better product and the devs can learn from it.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Even though it's a short game, there is a lot to unpack and experience here, especially if you branch out to the world and don't try to to beat the game as fast as possible.

Overall it's a game with brilliant gameplay mechanics, great visuals and art design, amazing music and a solid story. It's got exactly what it needs, at the exact duration that it should have.

Truly a great game, it's a solid 9.5/10

After 10 months into MWII life cycle, they decided to update the game and implement some of the basic features missing at launch, and update the movement so it's not horrible.

Nevertheless, bugs, glitches, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ menu and constant MX spam (including P2W bundles) continues to be the default theme for this game.

Don't buy it, not worth your time, just wait for the next one or the one after that (which one they decided to actually make good) and buy then.

Despite the mixed reviews, it's honestly not a bad game overall.

Pros:
- I initially didn't like the cartoonish character visuals, but after a while they really grew on me. They blend really well with the palette of colors of the rest of the game, which is nice.

- Story is nothing ground-breaking, it's the average racer-game story. Unfortunately it starts a bit slow, but as the game progresses and you pay attention more at the dialogs between the characters it gets better.

- Talking about story, it's worth mentioning that some of the writing is EXTREMELY cringy. It's like a boomer wrote how he thinks young people talk. Many times it comes off as awkward and completely over the top, but yeah, we don't play it for the story much, do we?

- The racing experience overall is really solid. After getting the hang of the controls and understanding how each of your cars respond to your inputs, racing becomes a really enjoyable experience, which is probably the single most important thing for games such as this one.

Cons:

- The price. This game is not worth 70 euros, so don't even think buying it on full price. Imho it's worth 10-20 bucks, and that's if you like the arcady NFS style. Otherwise just buy it on EA pass and play it through that; by the end of your first subscription you'll either have finished it or completely abandon it out of boredom.

- As other people mentioned the lack of off-road missions/locations is really unfortunate, considering the fact that the few times you do get off-road, the experience is really smooth and enjoyable. A wasted potential really.

- AI is EXTREMELY scripted. The cops are there to ♥♥♥♥ you up, and they are there just for you, and not so much for the other racers. There are many setups which you know they are meant to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up, and they are incredibly cheap. AI opponents/drivers also scripted to their bone, since depending on how much you may reattempt a race (for better time or position), they may suddenly become completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because the game feels like you need a helping hand to win the race.

- Limiting reattempts on races is pretty dumb imho. I am not sure what happens if you burn through all your reattempts, especially in story missions, but artificially pressuring the player in order to limit their time spent on a specific mission sounds like a bad game design.

- Finally, artificially giving you a time barrier for story progression through chore-days even though it sounds good on paper, it feels like the game sends you to do erands till you 've earned your participation trophy for the story-reward. It's an impleentation choice, but I believe that they could have done it through other means as seen in previous titles (if you know, you know).

The game itself is extremely punishing but most of the times fair. Bugs do exist, and unfortunately it's the frustrating kind: collision glitches. It is a great option for people that want to take a gaming challenge, but they don't rage if they do not make it either. Additionally, at the time of writing this review, it has a solid speedrun community in all categories.

Actually not a bad game to play with your friends, especially for the price. Certainly worth a grab!

It looks visually pleasing, but it lacks substance. The horror element is basically you getting jump scared every now and then with some scary music in the background. That's it. No atmosphere no anything.

As for it's story, I 've stopped paying attention midway through. Only good part for me was the "decryption" segment.

Other than that, it looks like any other UE horror marketplace asset-flip. Just avoid unless you want to shoot your head out because of boredom.
