[WOTC] XCOM OST Restoration for MMS

Description
All 3 original soundtracks restored to Music Modding System!

What's the point of this mod?

The tl;dr? This allows you to play XCOM 1 EU/EW, XCOM 2, and the DLC (TLP/WOTC/Shen/Viper) soundtracks alongside all your other MMS soundtracks.

MMS allows you to have multiple soundtracks running at once, and also has a fallback option where it will play default XCOM 2 music if a song isn't found. With the release of the Tactical Legacy Pack, the base game allows you to pick between XCOM 1, 2, and the new TLP soundtrack for use in the base game.

But MMS won't fall back to those other choices. And with the base DLC, you have to pick one and stick with it. There are some mods that fix this by incorporating all three soundtracks in the base game, but then you can't use custom MMS soundtracks anymore.

This mod reincorporates all 3 soundtracks to every tactical and strategy layer of the game. No more needing to choose!

It also comes with a variety of options in the ini for choosing where, when, and if you'd like songs to be played.

Obvious Disclaimers

-Robojumper's Music Modding System is required. (Seems obvious but there's always someone.)

--In addition, WOTC is required for this mod to work. No, I will not build this mod for vanilla (kind of defeats the purpose).

---I also don't know what will happen if you run this mod without all of the DLC, TLP especially. Probably nothing, so I haven't listed them as requirements. But I'm also not going to test that. This game is ancient and they're cheap, just go get them.

Notes, Warnings, and Disappointments

-IMPORTANT: Deactivate the "fallback" option in the MMS settings, as this will play similar XCOM 2 music, but at the wrong volume and times.

--This mod brings over the songs from the base game as new packages. This is a wasteful, but necessary, workaround. The mod is unavoidably huge as a result.

---I could not figure out how to incorporate the Chosen's theme songs. I have included them in the ini files if you want to hear them somewhere, but there's just no hook in MMS for them. So you can't play the songs when they show up, only as generic music.

----Because this mod is 3 albums in one, the ini files are gigantic, and are hard to parse. I did my best to format it, but there's like 100 songs playing on multiple maps. It's messy.

-----I did my best to try and not make the playlists too repetitive. As a result, the songs are distributed among the stages, based on my personal preference. This can be changed in the ini at any time. However...

------I don't currently have titles on almost all of the songs save TLP and some EU songs. Some of them, I've been having trouble finding titles at all. In a later update, I'll try to include a text file with all of the real names so you know which song is which. But right now, it can be hard to tell without using the SDK.

-------Songs may be missing. The songs were very difficult to find in the game's source code. Even double-checking with the official OSTs, I was finding new songs I didn't recognize. If I missed one, please let me know and I'll try to include it.

--------DEFINITELY save a backup copy of any ini you mess with. And then save *another* copy after you make changes. It would really stink to lose a bunch of custom choices to a small update.

---------Because MMS doesn't allow you to "weigh" how often you want to hear a certain song, your other MMS soundtracks may not play as often. MMS is essentially shuffling to pick a song, and this mod adds 3 albums worth of songs. Statistically, it just becomes more likely to hear an XCOM song. I have mitigated this slightly by only adding 1 to 3 songs to each stage/mission from each album. But that's still potentially 9 new songs to choose from on a given stage. Some MMS mods add this many, but most come nowhere close (e.g., the Cyberpunk mod adds about 4 or 5 per stage, which is more than most).

Known MMS issues still present in this mod

-FPS drops may cause music to stutter. There is no solution to this (other than more RAM and improving performance, see: https://www.reddit.com/r/xcom2mods/wiki/performance/ for tips)

--Music plays over cutscenes. Can't do anything about this either currently. Although I'm considering a WWise port.

---Songs may fail to play if your mod config files are weird, or you're playing on maps with strange tags. I have been testing using LWOTC with decent success. But I can't catch everything. You can nuke your mod config and start over, but this should only be done with caution as it can brick a campaign.

Enjoy! And please leave feedback, requests, or bugs in the comments.

Yes! You can just delete the entries from the .ini or comment them out with a semi-colon ( ; ).

You can find avenger songs in XComStrategySound.ini in mod folder 3557987812/Config/Base . They are assigned to group eSSG_Chapter0X (X being 1, 2, or 3).

However, whenever I update the mod, there's a chance your ini files will be overwritten by my new files. So be sure to keep a backup, or just deactivate them again if you notice them playing.

Very good mod! I would like to disable the Avenger screen soundtracks, is it as simple as deleting/disabling the HQ Stage tracks?

Wwise is more powerful but more finicky. There's a lot of extra steps you need to do after installing it where things can go wrong. I intend to make a port to it eventually but that's way more work than this mod was.

I'm running this mod currently with base MMS, LWOTC (and a bunch other stuff), and the Cyberpunk, Blood Dragon, and Deus Ex soundtracks. They all work as expected together, given the caveats of MMS's known problems.

I was using Wwise MMS but I uninstalled it while troubleshooting as I thought it might have been causing problems with some music mods not working entirely.

As for other sound and music mods, I use a lot of voice packs, and I have 3 music packs besides what's included here.

I confirmed one of them just completely swaps tracks in-between turns which is very jarring, probably gonna let that one go.

That might be the other mod. Although there is supposed to be an alien track and an xcom track for most of them.

What are other sound and music mods are you using? And are you using Wwise MMS in addition (I have not tested with it yet.)

In addition to my previously listed problem, music also randomly resets itself (or changes track completely) when swapping between my turn and the enemy's turn

IDK if it's an issue / feature of this mod or one of the other music packs I have but I noticed combat music continues to play even after combat is resolved.

Thank you ^^

Just noticed some duplicate XCOM 1 combat songs that may have been causing issues.

@Maddog Was it the XCOM 1 combat songs that were playing over other songs? I might have just fixed it.
Saladin  [author] 6 Sep @ 12:57pm
Ok @jkinsect, just added the songs mentioned by that mod you linked to.

Currently they are only playing on a few stages to prevent bloat. You can search for them in the ini with the string X2O , which should show you which songs and what stages they're on.
