Foreword
This guide exists for reference purposes.
This is not a copy of the existing guide "Advanced Tips and Tricks for Beginners" by me, but rather an addon to hold onto content which grew old and got replaced. For the latest version please check on which still gets continous updates - hopefully for another long while.

Stop here!
Everything below this are mostly side notes which you hopefully do not need at all. Nonetheless I have been asked to make (a) guide(s) out of them. Since I am not fond of the idea, but also can understand the wish of some players to have the content saved for future reference (they can easily favourite a guide, but not a forums post), I put them here. They are useful for beginners and veterans alike, but you hopefully do not need them.

Consider what comes next as "archived" and "eventually outdated".
Especially when there is a Spin-Off of a topic available.

For up to date information check the guide which is mentioned in the foreword.
Thank you for your understanding and your support!
About "Missing Section"
If you wonder if there was not more before in this guide: congratulations!
You are a very observant hunter!

Despite my efforts I put into that missing section, which covered some basics about "the farm" (ironic pun intended) I feel like it did not fit this "guide". This was never and is not meant as a "guide". More like random veteran hunter notes which covers some "niche knowledge" - tips for stuff which are less obvious than the rest of the game.

As a passionate huntress I harbour no interest to chew all the information for you beforehand.
There are plenty of other guides which do that already, and do that frankly better than some simple "slapped notes" of mine.

Consider this more like this: I love Monster Hunter. I love this game. I enjoy it with passion. And I want to share the passion. A lot grew from personal experience. Personal experience I do not want to take away from you. Discover, explore, enjoy the game by yourself - and rejoice with the growth you make.

Once you are a veteran who enjoys the game as much as I do, you can tell yourself that you did it by yourself. Without the need of anyone chewing everything down for you. Especially the obvious basics... Happy hunting!

I have seen a lot, and I mean a LOT of very strong opinions regarding where should be the franchise go next; some ask to a return to form more akin to GU, with lower mobility and more strategic approach, while others prefer something like World, some more mobility but keeping the hunters not as agile as in Rise

and then theres Rise with the wirebugs and all the enhanced transversal which also added to the combat.

In my opinion, Rise should be a stepping stone to keep improving how the Hunters respond to the enviroment and use it in their benefit, I like the wirebugs and I like feeling agile even if im a hammer main

HOWEVER, I would also like to improve the world and setting by making the stages larger and with more interactivity than just jumping, something more like World but enhanced.

also dont develop for the switch first, in any case have a port with reduced visuals, not the other way around

so what do you think?

"Next" is a good starting point. I always think of Monster Hunter Rise as a "crystallisation" of all Monster Hunter games which came before, optimised for a handheld experience. I do not think it should ever go back but rather improve from here, like it did improve from the older games.

I am in an age where it is more than just easy relateable that the good old stuff can look better through a rose-tinted-nostalgia glasses. I often think for myself that the story of Monster Hunter 4 was the most enjoyable, and that the variety of hunting arts with all the weird stuff was genius, challenging, and rewarding. But I also have to remind myself that the audience from back then grew up, and that stories need a modern approach as well. Not like the Netflix meme where everything gets replaced with ethic diversity, but more when thinking of things like "My Little Pony" of which I love the modern interpretation so much more than the original e.g.

Personally I keep thinking of a "World of Monster Hunter Online". But not as a mainline of the franchise, and more of a side by side existence alongside the portable.

Monster Hunter: World was a great success for very good reasons, and that is something Capcom must not give up. So is Monster Hunter Rise for me. Giving one branch up or another would just simply be wrong but also eventually fatal, considering how much both games influenced each other during developement and what kind of audience they serve.

The joy of playing Monster Hunter: World on a big screen with the orchestral score in comparison to being able to play Monster Hunter Rise with your friends in a café or for me more often than I like in the hospital - I would be devastated if they gave up on the mobile branch, especially seeing how great the Nintendo Switch works. But sure ~ it is undenyable that the perception and popularity of the Nintendo Switch - no - of any handheld console differs highly between Japan and Western Europe e.g. That is not a bad thing. That is just a cultural difference, like me crying for the loss of great arcades where I used to hang out with friends for pool, pizza and video games when I was younger.

It would be just wrong if they fixate on Monster Hunter: World e.g. and give up on the portable branch. Like as if Command & Conquer decides to make their fourth installment a MOBA because a broader audience seemingly wants that while ignoring the loyal fans, or as if Blizzard stops providing Starcraft in South Korea because of Starcraft 2...

A few words about my wishlist/imagination for "World of Monster Hunter Online" which I think or imagine might serve western audiences better, I see something along the lines ~

Free 2 Play with a financial/payment model similar to what can be seen with Warframe, like you have only slots for 15 armour pieces to start, and three weapons of each category with optional unlocks whether by playing through challenges or money.

F2P so the franchise becomes more accessible, and a fair Warframe like, or even better MTGA like, loot / reward system to make whole things interesting. I mean, it could be easy if you put all poses instead of sets but each individually into loot boxes alongside stickers, emotes, and layered armour pigments e.g. The game would be still fully enjoyable that way if you think of Overwatch.

The gameplay itself would be a mix of Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter: World - a good single player portion and an even better multiplayer portion. But the clou of a dynamic live service game would be my wish that the game actually expands. Rather than just the fixed five biomes to start with, I would totally love new biomes every two years. It does not have to be entirely new, but imagine it like this:

The game comes with a guild system, where you can acquire your own airship to travel through the whole world of Monster Hunter.

Your guild can subscribe with ingame credits to NPCs you can create yourself using the character editor (handler, smith, merchant, etc.). Guild sizes between 4-24 members (expandable to 64?) share the airship as a lobby while they hunt in traditional four hunter teams.

But the ingeniuty of the coop/multiplayer does not end with raids with 8-16 players - it just starts when you make them play coop up to 8 players per hunt, in which four hunters are accompanied by four prowler players (muahahaha, Palico power!)

I even thought of my nostalgia veins, why I think it would be great if with the expanding world you get to actually have remakes of old biomes. And since not everywhere in the world exist the same features, the challenges would constantly change over time (as in: not everywhere do wirebugs live), adding more and more content, while at the same time you can play "Historical Boss Quests" as a reminisence mode - all that while the game follow its own story of e.g. investigating the Black Blight, or a paralell story of what have been seen with Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.

At some point in the very distant future you can even use your personal airship in siege battles/raids. And as minigames maybe a version of Monster Hunter Stories or egg races.

And so much more... Uhm... yeah, I think a lot about that, hoping that my wish may come true if Capcom ever wants to have a Western cashcow, that is.

That would be my idea of the next step in the franchise while having a good established console branch as well, Capcom must never give up. Having two different branches is great nowadays, and they have done nothing wrong in distributing the sources like that. That way they have an easier time to keep the developers from boredom and burnout in doing the same thing over and over again.

A Monster Hunter game which contains all monsters ever published, all biomes ever published and remade and repolished with the features seen with Monster Hunter: World and Monster Hunter Rise ~ by the end of the day the next step is easy since it seems to me that Capcom and the Monster Hunter franchise was always on track with a great side step with Monster Hunter: World which opened a whole new world... new possibilities and a whole new audience.

"Easiest weapon for beginners" Part 1

Easiest weapon for beginners
Suggestions ?

Many of the other posts are already expressing what I would think too, so here you have a different approach in form how I see each weapon for beginners.

Summary would be: pick what you feel as good for you, with Sword & Shield being technically easiest to handle for beginners.

Great Sword
Feels very slow and heavy, the damage output is amazing - if you actually manage to hit the monster. Being able to block is beginner friendly, but the sluggish handling in comparison to the rather fast starter monsters made me step back from them. Big damage numbers mean little when you need to learn proper movements first to actually hit with the strong attacks.

Interesting: with Surge Slash from Sunbreak the Great Sword becomes much more approachable for beginners, from my point of view.

Long Sword
Looks cool, but feels clunky? Poke, poke, slice. No block. Need to be sharpen a lot at the beginning. When meeting the monster it feels like one-winged-angel theme starts playing in the background. The long range is making attacking easy, but it still feels clunky. That is until you learn its actual power in form of counters. Scary! Learning counters as a beginner is not so easy, but it is definitely rewarding.

Sword & Shield
Fast hits, but very low range. Movements hardly restricted and you can block! It feels like playing a character which can do only low hits - kinda weak impression. But once you learn how to use the shield properly, the gameplay becomes more stunning. Easier movements allows easier dodging and shield enables blocking. A very forgiving weapon which feels weak at first. Great for first time explorations.

Make no mistake, in the right hands every weapon is strong.

Hammer
Slow combos, no block. Bonk. Big bonk. Bigger bonk. Straightforward combos, easy to learn, with straightforward effects. But if you get hit: ouch. Surprisingly the weapon feels so straightforward as the tool sounds. Charging hammer and status effects make it a great weapon later on with more versatility than you might expect from a bonk.

Hunting Horn
Fighting with an instrument? Are you crazy? Is it not just a different hammer? Is it even viable when playing solo? Self-buff is strong, and status attacks are easy applied with the correct combos. The handling is not as clunky as with the hammer, and the attack does not feel so strong. But it allows easier movement and once you learned how much stronger you get via buffs and how to use status effects, you are constantly looking for the perfect buff-set for every encounter.

Self-heal horns makes you feel very strong. But damn: sharpening an instrument???

Dual Blades
Maybe coolest movesets and "rage aura". Super fast - in and outside of battles. Not caring for low damage numbers, as long as you hit plenty. But... kinda a beginner trap when you are locked in certain movesets. The fast pace tempts you into charging fast into the enemy. Makes you feel like a glass cannon for a while, until you stop underestimating monsters. It feels awesome dancing on the top of the monsters while dealing out damage.
But does the monster X not feel too strong? Why is monster X so much easier when using a shield...?

Insect Glaive
Je suis monté ! Je suis monté ! Je suis monté !

Fast and cool. But you need to learn about Kinsects first. Once you understand the different Kinsects and how the self buffs via essence effects you, you will either start love to fly or ditch it. The hits feel strong, and the buff feels strong. The numbers of combos and possibilities are plenty. Very versatile, very cool. No blocking. And when getting hit while midair... big ouch! Do you like bugs? If you like bugs, the entry level is not that bad. And I feel like MHR has it easiest and most interesting for Insect Glaive users.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fyzqoQubCY

Lance
Poke. Poke. Poke. Okay, that is easy. But why do you feel like a stone when you draw your weapon? Can you actually fight like this when it is so hard to move? Evade Extender? Game Changer! Tell that sooner! Best weapon to hold your ground and learn the monsters' movements. If you manage the counters, it looks even cooler than Long Sword! Maybe?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzkzMQbItuU
If offense players prefer to start with Long Sword, then defense players probably love to start with Lance.

Gunlance
Why is it called Gunlance when you cannot actually shoot at monsters like with a gun? Should it not be called "explosion/dynamite lance"?
What is the big deal with this one anyroads? Feels almost as slow as Lance, and the attacks feel weird. Oh? There is a trick to them? The shelling ignore monsters' defenses? That is much better than I thought.

Switch Axe
Great Sword or Axe? Just take both. Kinda ~
Very fast, very versatile. Has some movements which locks you into place easily, and you need to learn - like with others weapon too - how the charging bar works. But damn, the transformation looks cool and the explosions you can do with the weapon even cooler.
Is it really that hard to use this weapon? No? Ah, "difficulty is higher" because of the combos? Eh, I am not sure. I think the explosions are punishing for beginners with the limited weapon shaprness. But that was it. Reminds me of Dual Blades. But with less moving around.

Charge Blade
Power in your hands - check
Good shield - check
Transformation coolness - check

Kinda like the Switch Axe but instead a merger of Sword & Shield + Axe?
Oh, the discharge - an ultimate move! That is really cool!
Charged weapon and shield for extra effects? Bought!

I really cannot relate why the Charge Blade has the weird reputation of being the most complex of all weapons. But it sure is very versatile with the ranges and easy block moves. Defense is not as good as with the Lance, but you can move better. You can move less than with Sword & Shield --- nope --- not exactly true in MHR with silkbind moves.

It is actually easy to learn and to use... I personally recommend it to beginners.

Bow
Understanding effective range is key. Once you got that, learning dodging is next. Then it is about ammo types / Spread / Pierce / Rapid. Incredible strong if you take your time. It is not solemnly a range weapon. And having control of the draw gives the bow an overall good feeling and feedback. Surprising for a "ranged weapon". Though as a beginner still a tad scary to use. Why? You think of Bow and Bowguns as ranged weapons - but when you actually use them in Monster Hunter... there is hardly any distance between you and the monster!!!

You still need to learn the monsters' movements to make best use of it. But once you got it, you can deal big damage with easy to use combos.

"Easiest weapon for beginners" Part 2

Heavy Bowgun
Damn, this one is heavy! But machine gun, I like! Yet it is too short and needs so long to charge. What is this weird sniping? Yeah, I better go for a FPS if I want to play gun.
Though, it is not unfun. You can use support ammo and effect ammo. Maybe they are more enjoyable in multiplayer? Definitely. Can I try the Light Bowgun again? This one is too heavy... Oh, I can use a strong shield with this too?

To be fair - gameplay feels weird when you start off with bowguns. But they are not difficult to use, and are fun too. I use them mainly when I am tired in multiplayer...
Killing Floor 2 is currently on sale by the way!

Those are my personal impressions I had as beginner.
Maybe you feel the same. Maybe not.

My advice: do not be afraid of the initial "entry level" to learn a weapon.
Every weapon is viable and fun to play if you allow it. And you might be surprised later on!

Every weapon feels much better in endgame when you have less to care about sharpness like in the beginning. And with Sunbreak additional skills you get an entire additional level to enjoy weapons in new ways - weapons you disliked before might be much more fun with the new skills. Give all of them a proper try for the full real experience ~

Cheers and Happy New Year! ːlis_alexː

Common Issues Patch v. 10.0.2.0
Original thread: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/1446780/discussions/1/3419937087345300060/

... only so far, that is.

1. Palico Bug confirmed
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/1446780/discussions/0/3419936604899960638/?snr=2_9_100003_

2. Denuvo/DRM acting strangely when buying DLCs while the game is running
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1446780/view/3364766987605655759?snr=2_9_100003_

3. Razer RGB support can cause crashes at loadup - maybe a third party app update, Synapse or something like that? (I do not own a Razer which I use which is not my chair)

4. Graphics cards which worked before suddenly are not recognised anymore as supported graphics cards - most likely a compatibility/driver isse. Solution/workaround unclear due to lack of details from some reports. Maybe the compatibility mode can fix it.

5. Nahimic, a common default service which comes with Realtek/MSI mainboards is seemingly causing compatibility issues. A deactivation of the service/update of the mainboard drivers and app is recommended for now. Unclear how the wrapper is dealing with it.

6. Limited usage of Save Game Backup guide due to enhanced Save Game architecture which prevents effectively an exploit which existed before. Good job, Capcom!

7. Very common audio issues. At first it looked like entirely headset/headphones related. Was the configuration changed? I thought I had the sliders all full before Sunbreak. With the addition of the followers audio slider the issue might make sense. Did not encountered the issue myself since checking and adjusting on every nook & cranny within the options before starting Sunbreak was the first thing I did. Unclear due different individual sound setups. Some returning sound issues are observed as well?

8. HDR might be an issue again. It reads like a repetition of what have been seen before. Even the fix for many in regards of compiling shaders issue.

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2763430311
It was good to have that reference material ready. I prolly did not expect to see repetitions of bugs. That is entirely odd.

9. Not really a bug or Capcom's fault, but mentionworthy: the unbelievable amount of help requests which turn out to be mod related. Despite putting warnings like everywhere it still happened. I am still presuming who uses mods should know what they do, as the occuring issues are all well described in the essential mod manuals and documentations you can find on the authors site and github (essential = Fluffy Manager, REFramework). Most effective solution so far
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828650446

If the issue turned out so big, why all the downvotes (30%+) on my guide?
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2791694098

10. Save game bug returned - a reoccuring issues and yet people hardly comment on the feedback threads, nor is the effective guide well rated. I keep pondering on putting them down with so many downvotes (20%+).
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2743342837

11. Communications issues seem strongly limited. Have not seen any threads which indicates the typical Gamefirst IV related issue. Should fix itself within a few days once all players got their game properly updated and so the Steam matchmaking servers. Could there be even a spike in the users which caused connection issues? Hardly believable but not impossible with 200 000 people at the same time playing to the usual 10 000 average per day considering the past three months.

12. Reports of skill related issue are starting to show up. A good sign, since many seem to be endgame related. I am sure those will get fixed soon with a patch as soon as they get confirmed.

13. With the update of the essential workaround mod REFramework certain recurring issues in regards of Xbox gamepass and such can be addressed again. However, the game size did increase significantly. Some loading times might be directly related to that. The tips which were written down back then to stabilise the game seem to be more important today than back then when it was just about a few cases. Especially in regards of the auto-save feature
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2755312447

Today is Sunday, a rest day. Since release the 30th of June there was exactly one work day (Friday July 1st). Two major issues have been addressed already as "under investigation" / "we are working on it"

Last time in regards of the save game issue it took Capcom... one week plus one day to fix the issue from their side for the majority. Oh, almost forgot.

14. People are missing Steam achievements for the new awards. Not really a bug? But it feels like one when you are used to have Steam achievements to existing awards. It is safe to assume it is either an overlooked item or it is planned to be added later on.

Will add more if I notice more. This is for reference purposes.

These tips I have come up with while playing solo. Of course you can apply them as well in multiplayer. It would enhance the flow of battle significantly. (like before, I only cover less obvious tips)

1. Think Tower Defense
Not your forte? No problem. Just try to place the auto-turrets so that they do most total damage, regardless of blindspots. If you place e.g. Wyvernfire to focus on the gate, you might be able to handle gate crashers easy. But if you put them instead to use for a lane, you hit many more before they even reach the gate. If you like tower defense like me, you like Sanctum. Using killzones is also a great tactic.

1B. Choice of Player Turrets
In single player more important than in multiplayer: my favourite is the usage of the Ballista for its range and specials. Being able to stun monsters from long range is probably the most valuable turret effect. In my opinion in even beats the silkbind effect of Chaingun. Cannon is great when it comes to applying status conditions via Thunderblight.

2. Use Palicoes
Assist Palicoes are great to stop monsters from advancing with extra traps and silkbind. If you give them a status weapon they even help you with the applying status subquest.

3. Use Specials Generously
Keep Fugen and Utsushi for important moments, use the rest whenever you like. I write "generously" while meaning "do not safekeep them forever". If you do not use them at all while waiting for emergencies it is your loss".

4. Fugen Cancels Ultra
Fugen is so strong, he can cancel a boss monster's ultra attack while it charges. If you level up your stronghold properly, you can use him even twice. Normal and "super saiyan" Fugen.

5. Riders, Go!
Use wyvern riding whenever possible. In fact, keep Utsushi for the final battle when the boss comes and they brings friends. Then you can use Utsushi's special to ride on the monsters using them against the boss.

6. Counter Gong Early
Like with specials, no need to wait forever until you use them. In fact, you want the counter gong's slot to place a more useful turret there. By the end of a wave you have automatic counter. By then the gong becomes useless. So better to make use of it early than never.

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/1446780/discussions/0/3196993949743611807/

Saving it here for future reference

1. Greet Each Other
Start each hunt with a proper greeting. It does not have to be some lengthy poem ~ it suffices to use the premade shortcuts which have auto translation, or a nice sticker which says "Hi!". Small talk is up to you personally - I can only encourage people to do so, for there have been many friendships born from a good/great gaming session together.

Tip: For those daring doers ~ share guild cards with your fellow hunters so they can find you more easily with your information if you wish. You get also extra bonus points towards friendship rewards when you are playing with someone you exchanged cards with.

2. Hello, Newbie!
Let others know if you are a beginner or you do not know the monster you are dealing with yet. There is no shame in admitting you are what I call a "newbie". Veterans love newbies - for every new player is an addition to our beloved community and a possible friend and partner to enjoy the game even more. Be considerate towards each other. Veteran hunters are willing to help and to teach. In return all you need to do is willing to learn and avoiding reckless actions. Do not overestimate yourself and just throw yourself into the fray because the others do that seemingly. If you are new, take your time, let the others know - and you will soon be on par when you allow it. Everyone started as a beginner. Everyone used to be a beginner. There is no shame nor disadvantage in telling you are new. Only advantages and benefits for people knowing not to ask too much from you and teaching you the ropes if needed. Veterans are role models after all.

Together to enjoy the game even more.

3. Supplies Are For Everyone
In multiplayer you notice the generously stacked supply chest. Well, "generously", because the content is for four players. Take your share and leave what you do not need. With two players each hunter take half and leave what they do not need. With three players: leave the leftover share as reserve. Beginners and unlucky hunters do not need to fear losing their face for taking them when it happens they run out of supplies.

4. Eat Before Each Hunt & Resupply
Not enough supplies in the supply box?
No problem. You can refill items and even change equipment in the tent at the camp.

And if you have forgotten to eat - you can do that too in the tent! Nice to know, right?

5. Be Considerate Towards Each Other (Flinch)
Some weapons like Hammer, Long Sword, or Switch Axe e.g. can trip or worse your fellow hunters in your party. It is recommended to have for yourself armour decoration which provides you with the Flinch Free skill for that matter. But it actually starts with being considerate and knowing "hey, your weapon does that which you might never knew from single player!" Please keep that in mind when you are in close combat. Also some range attacks do that too. There is not much like "friendly fire" which does damage, but tripping someone by "friendly fire" can cause combos to disconnect or worse.

Tip: Advanced hunting parties know their individual roles. Cutters go for the tails, breakers for breakable parts, knockers for the head and so on. With a maximum of four players in a hunting party there is usually always enough space to distribute around a monster so everyone can do maximum damage without being in others' harms way.

Extra tip: you can like everyone in your party at the end of a hunt!
It is not limited to only one member.

6. Be Considerate with Capture/Kill
Remember the Capturing Tutorial? No? No worries. Long story short: MHR offers with some monsters different rewards and different chances with different finishers. Whether you kill a target or capture it might significantly influence the outcome of rewards. As a client it is custom to let the host decide about the finisher. Though I encourage people to communicate.

Here is an example of a reward/loot table

Interpret it however you want - I do not question what is more rewarding to you, whether in numbers or whatsoever. All you need to know is: there is a difference which matters. Imagine you are after a certain item to craft a weapon, and just at the finishing moments someone takes you that chance away just for using the unfit finisher. You might not knew. Now you do.

Tip: Stickers, hotkeys, radial menu - you know the "jazz"

7. Emergency Capture
It is custom to discard the idea of killing the target after two faints/carts. That is purely due to the exponentially risen risk that if two carts already happened, the risk of a third time being incredibly high (as a matter of course: the monster just carted players two times - of course it can and want to do it a third time!!!).

That also often puts into consideration when you kill a target while one just got carted - the kill might happen within the next few seconds when the monster is already weakened. Often the carted ones will have a hard time to return to the battlefield for carves in time.

8. Multiplayer Item Loadouts
Item loadouts is a given. Having one for multiplayer is optional and yet recommended.
You can have 40 item loadouts and 24 radial menu loadouts. You have more than enough possibilities to adjust your hotkeys to have not only hotkeys for your single player hunts, but also for different setups in multiplayer. Most likely you just need one menu for multiplayer. The rest is for communication hotkeys.

This is an example multiplayer loadout I am using

Basically the same I use for HR with the difference I added some area of effect heal/buff items. They are cheap, and you can help easily your fellow hunters. Just keep in mind that there are some skill builds which require other hunters to be on lower health than probably you are used to.
Multiplayer 101 - Part 2
9. Listen & Bomb / Keep Attacking
Aside from "Fufu", I mean Khezu, monsters BGM will stop when they fall asleep. Listen and pay attention: when the music stops for whatever reason - one used Sleeping Toad or Sleeping Ammo etc. => Cease your attacks!

Use that opportunity to place Mega Barrel Bombs next to its head and let the strongest weapon user do the "wake up call". It might not do much on the long run, but it is always a welcome recovery opportunity no hunter wants to miss.

Due to gameplay effects which differ from older installments, this tradition might be outdated. So it can happen that players do keep attacking while knowing about the opportunity, for a related reason.

In doubt do like before: communicate and coordinate with each other!

Some might just keep attacking for the sake of speed and a high DPS rate. It is not a bad thing when they do so, nor are those necessarily beginners.
It is just a different approach on the matter. Keep that in mind ~

10. Use and Edit Autoshoutouts
As mentioned before, there are shortcuts which even have auto translate. But there is so much more when you check the chat menu. In addition to stickers for easy communication, I advise you to give them a look as well. That way you can e.g. let other people automatically know when a monster starts limping for capture/kill.

The game has so many convenient shortcuts for communication, considering there is no default keyboard with the original version on Nintendo Switch. You have a keyboard now. Use it to communicate. And make use of the mentioned shortcuts and tricks to keep it simple and convenient.

11. Palico > Palamute
This might be one of the things which can be broken down to "a matter of preference". Truth is: utility beats mobility, especially once you unlocked all sub-camps and master wirebug moving. Please do not feel bad for newbies who like to ride their Palamutes. I rather encourage everyone to find what fits them best. And newbies tend to watch role models closely, and they understand when they see how great a Palico can be in multiplayer in comparison to a Palamute.

Tip: this might be helpful to find your perfect "nyan nyan aibo" ~

12. Post-Hunt-Routine Optimisation
- "cash-in" sub-quests and take new ones
- refresh item loadout
(- check on new pal recruits)
(- check on new trade-in items)
- every 5th recovery round send out mewcenaries
- when you send mewcenaries check on cohoot nest for free items
- every 10th recovery round give trainer a new Lagniapple

All that takes circa 30-50 seconds when you are in routine?
Last but not least: do not forget to eat. If you forget, remember you can do that during the quest in the camp's tent ~ you can either adjust what you eat by the quest, or set up "usual sets" for doing that quickly.

13. Rampage
- go into the fray with your weapon when counter is signaled
- try to work towards subquests for better rewards and score
- like above with new monsters: let people know if you are not used to the game mode yet!
- I cannot help you with the mode being boring once you know it...

14. Random Side Notes
- Elder Dragons cannot be trapped, no need to bring along traps or tranqs for them
- Running out of Rations? Remember you can "grill to go"
- Using Dango tickets increase the percentage of super Dango skills kicking in
- For more Dango tickets let Yomogi prepare for you steaks etc. on mass
- It is a legit tactic to collect hunter helpers (Turtle and Lanternbug for survival, Sleeping Toad and Blast Toad for EXPLOSION!)
- It is recommended that the one hosts the party who has unlocked most (food)
- do not forget to send your pals to gather items for crafting like Honey (Mega Potion), Thunderbug (Shock Traps) and Bitterbug (Catalyst for Demon/Armor Potions) etc.
- do not forget to always carry Powercharm, Powertalon, Armorcharm, Armortalon with you when available
- make use of Hunter Connect to team up easier with hunters you made friends with
- "crafting on the fly" allows you to carry more of what you use often without the need to go back to the tent to resupply

==============================

This is more of a general tip which you can make best use during normal hunts.

1. When two monsters meet, they will most of the time fight. Even if its two monsters of the same kind. On rare occassions the other monster will just leave, but in every other you can catch a ride.

2. Your Wirebug charges are used for the Emergency Evade action. The Emergency Evade action counters enemy monster attacks, when timed well. But it also cancels the mounted monster's attack animation, allowing you to execute more attacks in a shorter time.

3. An unmounted monster getting tackled by a mounted monster will drop up to 3 loot items every hunt. It is a fun play where players ride around the map which has three monsters, to "encourage" those to drop 9 loot items for basically little to no efforts.

4. Launching a monster into another monster, makes the other monster mountable. So if your target e.g. was monster A, and you launched it towards monster B, you can "encourage" monster B to soften your actual target with extra damage.

5. It is recommended to activate the Mounted Punisher as late as possible, as you still can give out Strong Attacks while the action timer goes down.

6. After launching or executing Mounted Punisher your Wirebug charges will be automatically restored. Use the charges generously.

7. When there is no other monster to attack nearby with your mounted monster, you can launch the mounted monster against a wall. Some walls have a nice gimmick to deal extra damage. You can launch the monsters 1 + one more time for each Wirebug charge you have ready when mounting the monster, up to a total of 4 times.

8. Puppet Spider makes a monster mountable right away - unless its Wyvern Riding status is on cooldown.

9. Wyvern Riding status resets after 10 minutes - that means a monster can be mounted every 10 minutes.

10. You cannot ride Apexes. But surprisingly you can ride Elder Dragons with the exception of the boss monster from the intro sequence.

11. A mounted monster takes reduced damage. When playing multiplayer you want to either change target or use the time when you target monster is mounted to recover and sharpen your weapon.

Save file locations

Remote:
https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=1446780

Local:
..\Steam\userdata\yourID\1446780\remote\win64_save

This is a copy of a forums post I made
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/1446780/discussions/1/3196993949756798453/

Saving it here for future reference

Scenario
Game worked fine before and all of sudden on the next start it says that there is no save available and the game needs to create a new save game.

There is a high chance it happens to people who have had issues with the game before.

Recommended Course of Action

1. Cease immediately what you do, and keep the game open.
Do nothing which could trigger a Steam cloud synchronisation, for it could erase your last hope if you did not make backups before.

2. Download your save game
from your remote storage aka Steam cloud which you can find here: https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=1446780

The files you want are

win64_save/data00-1.bin
win64_save/data001Slot.bin
win64_save/data002Slot.bin
win64_save/data003Slot.bin

When downloaded they keep the folder structure as part of their file name. Like

win64_save_data001Slot.bin

which you need to rename to data001Slot.bin and so on.

From now on we will refer to that save game you downloaded as "Default Remote Backup".

Observation
You cannot tell by the sizes of your default remote backup whether the files are corrupted or not. Whether you create a new save game or use your old one with all the progress - by size they look the same. You can only hope that it has not synchronised with your local files which are having an issue right now.

3. Despite the local files seems corrupted
, let us still make a backup of them. Copy and backup the folder ..\Steam\userdata\yourID\1446780\
My Steam folder is located on a special SSD dedicated to games only. If you kept the default settings during installation of Steam, you might find yours at your OS storage drive within C:\Program Files (x86)\ It would be something like this

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\yourID\1446780\

Make sure to look for your actual ID and not the template "yourID" in this example.

From now on we will refer that save game you backed up locally as "Local Backup".

4. Delete everything
, within the ..\Steam\userdata\yourID\1446780\remote\win64_save folder. We want to force the game's save game memory to be blank.

5. Run the game as admin and create a new save game
with a new character, new Palico, new Palamute. Default setups will suffice. Run that save game for a little while e.g. until you talk to Fugen, to ensure you made a proper new save game. Close the game properly via the ingame menu.

6. Now we want to override the new save game
with the default remote backup.
Override the new save game files in the ..\Steam\userdata\yourID\1446780\remote\win64_save folder with your default remote backup.

7. Start the game again as administrator
and select the save game slot you made before. It might look like as if nothing changed at first. Save the game properly and quit via the ingame menu. Then restart.

If you did everything correctly
your freshly made save game is now overridden with your default remote backup. Considering this workaround is tested with positive feedback from at least four players throughout the forums, you might be out of luck if it did not anything for you. There is no guarantee that your default remote backup has not been corrupted yet, and no other way I know of to check that matter.

Prevention

Manual Backups
As simple as it sounds, you could make a backup of your local save game after each session. Make sure to keep at least the backups from your previous two sessions, so you would not run into surprises when it turned out that your last save corrupted your save game overall.

Automatic Backups
Set a (free) cloud service app to synchronise your save game folder, with version changes to be saved enabled. With new services allowing you to save multiple versions of the same file, you would be able to rollback a certain degree. That would be a significant difference in comparison to the default remote backup storage aka Steam cloud.

Conclusion
So far it is unclear what actually cause the issue to begin with, due lack of feedback and reports. There is, however, a very high chance that people who had issues before with creating a save game to start the game to begin with are most likely to be affected by the issue.

In addition to possible official statements and fixes it is recommended to go through the same recommended steps as before, such as ~

- load the game from a fast storage
- whitelist the game and Steam
- run the game and Steam as administrator
- check for third party apps or the in-built Windows Security Suit for settings which might interfere with savings and have them turned off during your game sessions, without taking risk
- if you are unsure about Windows security, try a different internet security app; a trial version will suffice for having a good testing time and to check if certain issues persist
- have a peek to troubleshooting hell if nothing mentioned helps you individually and specifically: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/1446780/discussions/1/3196993949750194248/#c3196993949755463081

I hope you will never need this. Until then ~

Happy Hunting!

"Are the save file corruption issues as bad in Sunbreak on PC as they seem?"

Hey everyone just a quick question. Ive logged hundreds of hours into Rise and Sunbreak on switch and recently double dipped into base Rise on PC to play with my girlfriend, and we're hesitant to buy Sunbreak because it seems like a lot of corrupt save issues are happening. Currently, sunbreak is sitting with "mixed" reviews on steam and all of the negative ones revolve around corrupt save fgiles.

Upon looking into it, a lot of what im seeing seems to have to do with people either modding their games or accepting guild cards from people who have modded their games. However the camps seem to be dead set in opposite factions; some people claiming your save file will never EVER corrupt unless YOU mod it yourself, and others claiming they've modded nothing and interacted with no one and still their save files got corrupted.

I wanted to know all of your thoughts on the matter? Should my GF and I stick to base Rise for now, or if we're only playing with each other (with the exception of potentially other steam friends and allowing for randos to join our hunts), should we be ok getting Sunbreak?

I like it that you are open minded and made a proper question about it, so I help you with a guiding statement:

Most people who made blatant claims are under the misconception that their save games got corrupted - as in: they think they lost their save game despite it is incorrect. In fact, for most of those people a recovery/fix is possible, if they had not overwritten their save games.

The amount of people who actually got their save game corrupted because of the usage of cheated items are estimated to be less than 7%, while the people who have overwritten their save game is the majority.

Currently, example given, you see a lot of people who claim they are in the save game loop, right? Some "lose" their save games in the process, some does not. That it because of the mentioned issue: people overwrote their save game because they think it is lost despite it is not.

It is a Windows access issue and is mainly seen with people who are unfamiliar with Windows, to be diplomatic.

In fact, right now, more than 98% of the people who have issues, have the same issue, while there had been different types of save game issue in the past at release. The initial release issue is officially fixed.

Now, what does that mean for you and your girlfriend?

a) most of the bad reviews are based on a misconception - ironically if the people did not overwrite their save game, they could recover it

b) it is an issue which applies to a certain group of people

c) the issue is preventable, and incidentally rare (again: only affects a certain group)

d) you can always be on the 100% safe side by making backups now and then or use an app which does that automatically for you - Steam does not want you to know that since they prefer their cloud service, but it is easy and a lot of people use a Google / MEGA / Dropbox account to begin with - hell, even Microsoft One Drive which is preinstalled with Windows for what it counts!

Errors with accepting guild cards with modded content are minimal, and there is no auto-accept.

Any more questions?

I learned a lot from your response, and it's given me a lot more reassurance. I guess I only have 1 quick follow-up question;

You said the issue was rare and even preventable. When you say preventable, do you mean due to my ability to back up my save files manually? Or is there anything I should know to do (or avoid doing) in order to minimize the chance of the save file loop occurring? Like downloading modifications or joining random lobbies?

A good follow up question! Without exaggeration I can commend you for that.

Recall how I mentioned "a certain group" is affected. There are indicators of what is causing the issue, and based on that on Steam some workarounds were thought of.

How to phrase it ~ imagine that certain group is the type of people who would turn off their PC without waiting for cloud services to synchronise after they have finished playing. Or the infamous "do not turn off your game while saving is in progress"

Have a look on these two, maybe it becomes more clear:

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2917483950

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/1446780/discussions/1/3467235293763265457/

The stuff mentioned there, like using Steam and the game on the same drive to make it load properly, or restarting your PC can help, are important to understand the relation to the loop issue. It is really apparent, that those with "lots of experiences with PC" never encountered the issue, because of very banal simple stuff like them restarting their PC regularly for updates (drivers, etc.).

Another problem which is most likely partially at fault for the misconception: I have mentioned there were several types of save game issue in the past and how they got fixed. Most people try to use those old random guides and fail of course. Like when you try to use antibiotics when you have a virus infection (antibiotics are only for bacterial infection, not viral).

Mods are in general harmless with the exception of save game editing stuff. Hence the very low number who are affected by that, as those people know what they do.

The matchmaking mod brings different other issues, which are not related at all with the save game issue. But since it is a mod "people know what they do", is what I like to say...

If you make backups, you would have a solid protection towards any kind of data loss. But the backups cannot prevent Windows issues when they appear. But you can tweak your PC setup in a way that issues are very unlikely to happen. This one is new too and I would say it can be used for any game

Games are Arts

While you have a broadwide market with strong competition, wheras you can compare pricings of games somewhat, e.g. by the time of joy have with it, by the quality of presentation etc. you cannot put a fair price on the passion and the work the developers and artists have put into the game.

It simply does not do the game just, and I would even say the current pricing is a far cry from what the game is actually worth it. Especially considering it is still in developement. You need to make sure that the makers do not starve and get proper compensation, rent, electricity and more is paid for infrastructure and so on. Not enough people have a proper grasp on what actually such a game is worth.

I blame big publishers who throw around with money while delivering less quality and less love towards their product and fanbase.

Long story short: games are luxury. If you are not willing to pay a fair price, then you should not buy games at all. And if you are not willing to appreciate a fair price, you must not play games at all.

There is a solid reason why people are willing to pay nowadays more in comparison to their childhood times for the very same retro games or remakes. Because real gamers who have as much passion and love for games as honest and earnest developers do know: you can put a price tag on a game. But the experience you get can be priceless. It is up to you what to do with it and how you value it.

Maybe when you get older you start to ponder, what it would be worth to you if you could wind back time for just a few hours of that feeling you have had when you could fully enjoy games.

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/1446780/discussions/1/3196993949750194248/

Saving it here for future reference

1. For Starters
Dear players, please do not forget basic stuff like restarting your PC and verifying your game's files after an update has been applied.

Here is the official manual how you do verify your game's files:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

There are plenty of cases where it fixed issues like "infinite loading at start".

It sounds as silly as "have you turned your PC off and on again?" but the number of threads affirming it helped speak for themselves ~

2. For Graphics
You can also try to fix any shaders related issues by deleting the relevant files and verify your game's files again. That will force the game to compile them again - hopefully fixing any issues in the process.

You can find them here:
..\Steam\steamapps\shadercache\1446780\ <--- all folders

..\Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterRise\ <--- shader.cache*

OR in your Steam Library folders if you used individual pathing and additional folders throughout your hardware.`

About Stuttering
There are many approaches I have read about, and from my opinion they are nearly all valid and worth to give it a try. Why all? Because it goes down to your personal very individual gaming system. Unlike with console there are too many combinations for PCs which makes troubleshooting so difficult to begin with. Here are some promising approaches ~ please use them with care

- Start with reinstalling related drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller
- Set game to use graphics card in high performance mode (Windows 10 Settings -> Display -> Graphics Settings -> Select App -> Select Mode)
- Increase game's priority in task manager
- Disable Steam Overlay for the game
- adjust VRAM
- disable Control Flow Guard with Windows Defender's Exploit Protection or check for something similar with your security software of choice
- same for Controlled Folder Access (Virus&Ransomware Protection), Memory Integrity (Device Security/Core Isolation)
- disable auto-save (if this works for you check my storage related notes below)
- adjust ingame dynamic shadows and other values while using vsync etc.; the game is highly sensitive in that regards as if it works with profile patterns - changing a single thing manually there can cause chain reactions for better or worse - keep that in mind~

A lot of the issues are suspected to be caused by the DRM Denuvo. I cannot tell. But clearly some approaches on the matter are addressing that aspect directly.

Also, I recommend - if your system is at the lower end - to consider investing in more actual RAM and a fast storage. That solved this kind of issues for me with Monster Hunter: World, despite I have met the requirements with ease.

3. For Saves
If you have save games issues a la "game starts blank", but you made a backup before, do like this

a) Start a new game with a new save.

b) Close the game

c) Override the new save game you made with the backup.

d) Start the game again and make a proper save with the overridden save game.

e) Restart the game.

If you did everything correct, the game should now accept your backup as "new current save game".

Your save game is located here

Remote:
https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=1446780

Local:
..\Steam\userdata\yourID\1446780\remote\win64_save

If you did not make a backup, check your remote storage aka Steam cloud before panicking ~ and it is recommended to turn off Steam cloud when you apply this workaround. Just do not forget to turn it on again once the applied save file is working fine again.

4. For Future
I recommend highly, due to circumstances, to make regular backups of your save games. You can easily set it up as synchronised folder with a third party free cloud service app. If you allow the save of multiple versions of a file, that would create for you a "hardened" backup in comparison to Steam's default cloud storage.

5. For Everything Else

CrystalDiskInfo - Check your Storage for possible issues
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/crystaldiskinfo_portable
It can always be the case that there are hardware issues you do not know about, and by coincidence a game just reveals them without actually causing them.

CPU-Z - System Profiler
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/cpu-z-portable
Helpful for people who want to help you so you can share details about your system's specification.

GPU-Z - Graphics Cards Specific
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/gpu-z-portable
As above with CPU-Z but for graphics cards

Revo Uninstaller - Mostly you do not need this...
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/revo_uninstaller_portable
... but it is great for reinstalls to be sure that a game leaves no leftovers you do not know about.

Check for updates on drivers and OS Manually !

People loves to claim they have everything up to date. It might be that they rely too much on automatic functions. In most cases I have observed and gotten the feedback that a manual prompt of updates might trigger additional updates which have been missed before.

Imagine that like with your smartphone ~ you have often a "rollout plan" where certain smartphones are updated in batches, unless there is a manual user prompt. A manual user prompt often triggers a released update instantly, despite your device would be planned for a later time/date.

I have had that issue myself, with Nvidia taking care of things properly, but Microsoft missing on an Intel Iris Graphics driver for reasons I do not fully understood. It almost killed my graphics card with overheating.

Display Driver Uninstaller

If you need this, you missed on the pinned thread.

Same goes for keeping stuff like your DirectX drivers up to date alongside your graphics card(s) driver. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

6. Connection Issues
Some general tips on the matter ~

With power comes responsibility
Like when hosting a party, the one with the more and better resources will have an easier time to do so. Consider it common sense that the one with the better gaming PC and better internet connection should be the one to host.

In Windows 10 you can easily check on the relevant system specifications by going for the Settings -> System -> Information

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/ugc/1830150285028932723/F5459F7A41B94B38FED8EA29D947C843330CB4BA/

If you need to look up your internet speed performance, which consist of download and upload value, Speedtest by Ookla is considered a popular and reliable free to use service

https://www.speedtest.net/

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/ugc/1830150285029029856/3F8AB60A303921E4C866E203E2C9DE5B77B57305/

Common issues

Some common issues which can affect your internet connection and are often overlooked by beginners are

a) Wi-fi issues.
Especially in urban areas it has become a big problem with many overlapping networks in close proximity, and users unaware of the issue for most use the default settings of the wi-fi device provided by their internet service provider.

Have a look at this situation as an example. The graphics only show detected routers in close proximity around an apartment in an urban house.

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/ugc/1830150285029153903/7299A606BBDE93FFAE3B70D5BC8912B85693F21F/

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/ugc/1830150285029156232/BF9AF8EDE1B07BE4F6EED420BF8E72BF370E6CF1/
(used channels in the same house/floor by number of routers with 5Ghz)

Conclusion: 5Ghz wi-fi is recommended for good reasons. But not every device supports it.

Trivia: You might wonder: why not just pick a different, less occupied channel? Well... the default devices from the internet service providers come per default with auto-select-best... Another origin of connection issues - ever-changing-jumping-channels-devices...

Therefore you will see it is often recommended among gamers to use an ethernet cable connection. That does not only negate the issue of overlapping networks, but also counters possible interferences by other devices (smart devices, microwaves, emergency radio etc.) and architectural matters.

If cable is not an option, please consider wi-fi enhancers like repeaters and those devices which make use of your home's power grid. A simple enhancer you can make by yourself can already be a big boon (tested in a 200+ years old house with multiple apartments).

(might look silly, but it has surprised everyone whom I recommended it - all you need is paper/cardboard, glue and aluminium foil)

By my personal experience: repeaters and power grid connection are definitely worth their money. Mesh internet wi-fi via inbuilt smart device might be the future.

b) Third party apps or third party users.
It happens more than often that some background apps decide "it is time for an update". Especially Windows has a bad habit on doing update downloads in the background without any notification. Webspace apps like Dropbox and alike which synchronise by themselves are another matter of course.

In addition to that people like to "forget" all kind of third party apps which affect their system's performance. Whether it is their internet security which not only can throttle internet speed, but also can block it entirely, or other stuff like discord or running separate gaming platform clients (Epic game launcher e.g.).

The less apps you have running, the more your gaming system can focus on the game at hand and deliver better performance.

And if you have a shared internet connection, please keep in mind: when someone else is using it, you might end up at the lower end. Especially with the default setups of many wi-fi devices which prioritise media (Netflix, Disney+, etc.) over gaming. Even if you have a high download speed per default, you might suffer from the matter simply because the device takes care of your gaming data with much lower priority.

7. Rare Issues
Blutooth
Additional input devices often comes with additional third party software in order to use them. Make also sure to check always if the issue you experiencing persist by unplugging all unnecessary devices from your PC.

One worth mentioning are blutooth devices which have seemingly often created issues for the game by users having additional active inputs without knowing. Check also the Steam Controller Support section.

Keyboard
When you play with keyboard, please keep in mind that especially older and office models can and will have issues with games which can be demanding on certain combos. That is why gaming keyboards exists which prevent "ghosting" and alike. Thankfully they are nowadays cheaper than office keyboards, so they have become a recommended buy.

Multi-Display-Setup
Some issues are caused by a non-native-support of the game of multiple displays. Try deactivating one should you use such a system.

Storage
When host is loading the game from a slow (external) (hard) drive. Nowadays Solid State Disks have become so cheap, I can highly recommend it for anyone who play games often on their system to use one. The difference in performance is noticable and significant.

Third Party Apps which came with PC/Components
I have mentioned third party apps before, but not all are that obvious and visible. ASUS mainboards have an inbuilt tool called GameFirst VI to improve network connections. It just so happens, when MHR is loading/needs too long to load, that tool might consider the needed network connection for the app dead, and starts allocating resources elsewhere. Sounds familiar to wi-fi devices? Well, it is similar. It is worth to know your system.

8. Mods
Use mods at your own risk. There is no official support for that. In doubt: ask the mod author, as a matter of course.

9. Extra Note
In at least two confirmed cases a clean install of the OS lead to a solution. I can only assume that in those cases the amount of leftover files and littering has grown so much, that unexpected issues started to be caused by unknown sources.
Troubleshooting 101 - Part 3
PC Issues: Recommendation

Experienced users and experts can ignore this recommendation.

There are some fairly cheap upgrades for PC which can make a huge difference in overall performance. Not in regards of graphics or processing. But running the game from an internal SSD or having a RAM upgrade to a minimum of 16 GB (better are 24 GB and more) counter not only loading issues, but make many games run much smoother. Players often describe related issues as "stuttering" or "freezes" - especially during loading sequences - , despite the game is running well the rest of the time. You might want to consider an upgrade, especially with those kind of components having become very cheap these days.

Not everyone considers themselves being a "nerd". I personally find the term offensive, especially when used on people who have "some" knowledge with PC. It is a matter of fact that information technology has become so easy nowadays, that most people do not bother with many stuff which are nowadays considered "nerd" stuff. Even when it is about simple things like why a 4MP camera is better than 2MP. Or why not.

To tackle PC issues in an easy way I like to recommend to you TuneUp Utilities. Nowadays owned by AVG and therefore known as AVG TuneUp. It is an easy to use tool which I consider great for anyone who has not much knowledge about Windows optimisation. With my high end PC I am hardly ever using it anymore, but I do appreciate still what it can do for weaker PCs and especially users who are not accustomed to PC "stuff".

It shows you background apps and helps you to put them down. Among many other things which might help fixing PC issues and improve performance. You might be surprised to see what you might have overlooked before. A lot of its features can be done without it. But to get the idea it is worth to take upon the free trial.

Last but not least: do not underestimate the dangers of malware.
Keep your system up to date and trigger manually a virus scan/rootkit scan.
I have seen PCs with 250+ virus alerts and hidden trojans and bitcoin mining apps - only you can save yourself from such. Also, those PCs often were slowed down by 50% and more because of them...

This recommendation is an excerpt from another guide of mine, after noticing that the recommended requirements mentioned on the store page are for "average" graphics setup. Think about it what you like. I personally feel deceived for I am used to "system requirements: recommended = better/best graphics settings and performance".

Checklist

To give people an idea of how hellish troubleshooting can be.

  1. Does your Steam account has the license to use the game? (Family Share)
  2. Do you meet the minimum requirements as mentioned on the store page?
  3. Did the game work for you before?
  4. Have you turned your gaming system off and on again?
  5. Have you restarted your gaming system and OS? (special Windows behaviour)
  6. What OS are you using? (Be specific for even with Windows there are big differences)
  7. Have you made a backup of your save game(s)?
  8. Have you verified the game's files integrity?
  9. Have you restarted your gaming system after verifying?
  10. Are you running the game from a fast storage?
  11. Do you have a good relative amount of virtual RAM?
  12. Are you running the game in compatibility mode as administrator?
  13. Have you turned off autosave?
  14. Have you turned off overlays? (all of them: Steam, discord, Nvidia, Xbox, etc.)

  25. Have you deleted the shader files to prompt another compile?
  26. Have you restarted your gaming system after freshly installing drivers?
  27. Have you tried reducing the FPS cap and other graphics settings to match the game's profiles?
  28. Have you whitelist the game with your security suit?
  29. Have you turned off stuff like Control Flow Guard and/or Controlled Folder Access and Memory Integrity checks?
  30. Have you checked on your storage and RAM health?
  31. Have you really turned off any third party apps like blutooth tools?
  32. Are you using a cable connection to the internet?
  33. Have you tried using a VPN?
  34. Have you tried a different security app? (Trial versions suffice for the test)
  35. Last but not least: is your mainboard up to date?

As a matter of course you will not find any mod related questions within the checklist. People who make modifications with their game (ReShade, etc.) know what they are doing and that there is no support.

Feedback Rules - Part 1
In life as much as in work, it’s important to know how to provide feedback to others,
effectively and constructively without causing offence. There are many opportunities in life
for providing others with feedback, from commenting on the way that your colleague has
carried out a task, to discussing your children’s behaviour with them. In this Appendix we
focus on the process of communicating with someone about something that they have done
or said, with a view to changing or encouraging that behaviour. This is often called ‘giving
feedback’, and when you do, you want your feedback to be effective.
The guidelines for giving constructive feedback fall into four categories: content, manner,
timing, and frequency.

Content
Content is what you say in the constructive feedback.
• In your first sentence, identify the topic or issue that the feedback will be about.
• Provide the specifics of what occurred.
Without the specifics, you only have praise or criticism. Start each key point with an "I"
message, such as, "I have noticed," "I have observed," "I have seen," or when the need
exists to pass on feedback from others, "I have had reported to me." "I" messages help you
be issue-focused and get into the specifics.
Manner
Manner is how you say the constructive feedback. As you may know, how you say
something often carries more weight than what you have to say — manner is an important
element when giving feedback.

Timing
Feedback is meant to be given in real-time, as close as possible to when the performance
incident occurs so that the events are fresh in everyone's minds. When feedback is given
well after the fact, the value of the constructive feedback is lessened.
When giving negative feedback, you may want to apply a different timeline: ASAR (as soon
as reasonable/ready — that is, when you're ready). Sometimes when an incident happens,
you aren't feeling too good about it, and you need time to cool off and get your thoughts in
order before you give negative feedback (so that your manner displays a tone of concern).
Doing that may mean giving the feedback tomorrow rather than right now, but tomorrow is
still timely, and your feedback will come across as far more constructive.

Frequency
This last guideline is the most important because it makes all the other guidelines work. Use
constructive feedback regularly to acknowledge real performance. Try to catch and respond
to people doing their job right just as much as you catch and respond to them doing
something not quite right — and don't acknowledge how they are performing only
sporadically.

Constructive feedback is information-specific, issue-focused, and based on observations.
It comes in two varieties: Praise and criticism are both personal judgments about a
performance effort or outcome, with praise being a favorable judgment and criticism, an
unfavorable judgment. Information given is general and vague, focused on the person, and
based on opinions or feelings. Don’t get this wrong, to give praise for example is a good
thing when it is deserved, but it’s not constructive feedback since it’s a personal judgment.
Remember that you are making no comment on what type of person they are, or what they
believe or value. You are only commenting on how they behaved. Do not be tempted to
discuss aspects of personality, intelligence or anything else. Only behaviour.

Feedback should describe the effect of the person’s behaviour on you.

After all, you do not
know the effect on anyone or anything else. You only know how it made you feel or what
you thought. Presenting feedback as your opinion makes it much easier for the recipient to
hear and accept it, even if you are giving negative feedback. After all, they have no control
over how you felt, any more than you have any control over their intention. This approach is
a blame-free one, which is therefore much more acceptable. Some useful phrases for giving
feedback include: “When you did X, I felt Y”. “I noticed that when you said X, it made me
feel Y”. “I really liked the way you did X and particularly Y about it”. “It made me feel really X
to hear you say Y in that way”.

In positive feedback situations, express appreciation.
Appreciation alone is praise. Yet when you add it to the specifics of constructive feedback, your message carries an extra oomph of sincerity. For example: "Sue, your handling of all the processing work while John
did the callbacks made for an efficient effort and showed good teamwork. Everything you
did was accurate, as well. Thanks so much for helping out. Such initiative is a real value to
the team." Always keep in mind to give at least as much positive feedback as you do
negative. Positive feedback stimulates the reward centers in the brain, leaving the recipient
open to taking new direction. Meanwhile, negative feedback indicates that an adjustment
needs to be made and the threat response turns on and defensiveness sets in. You don't
need to avoid negative, or corrective, feedback altogether. Just make sure you follow it up
with a suggested solution or outcome.

In negative feedback situations, express concern.
A tone of concern communicates a sense
of importance and care and provides the appropriate level of sincerity to the message.
Tones such as anger, frustration, disappointment, and the ever-popular sarcasm tend to
color the language of the message and turn attempts at negative feedback into criticism.
The content of the message gets lost in the noise and harshness. The purpose of negative
feedback is to create awareness that can lead to correction or improvement in performance.
If you can't give negative feedback in a helpful manner, in the language and tone of concern,
you defeat its purpose. Your feedback usually won't be productive if it's focused on making
the other person feel bad or make them look foolish in front of peers.
Feedback Rules - Part 2
Be specific.
People generally respond better to specific, positive direction. Avoid saying
things like, "You need to be more talkative in meetings." It's too ambiguous and can be
interpreted in a lot of personal ways. Say something specific and positive pointed at the task
you want accomplished, such as, "You're smart. I want to hear at least one opinion from you
in every meeting we're in together going forward."

Be direct when delivering your message.
Get to the point and avoid beating around the
bush. Both negative and positive feedback should be given in a straightforward manner.
Be sincere and avoid giving mixed messages. Sincerity says that you mean what you say
with care and respect. Mixed messages are referred to as "yes, but" messages. For example,
"John, you have worked hard on this project, but. . . ." What follows is something the person
is not doing well and is the real point of the message. The word "but," along with its cousins
"however" and "although," when said in the middle of a thought, create contradictions or
mixed messages. In essence, putting "but" in the middle tells the other person, "Don't
believe a thing I said before."

State observations, not interpretations.
Observations are what you see occur;
interpretations are your analysis or opinion of what you see occur. Tell what you've noticed,
not what you think of it, and report the behaviour you notice at a concrete level, instead of
as a characterization of the behaviour. Observations have a far more factual and
nonjudgmental aspect than do interpretations.

RECEIVING FEEDBACK: USEFUL TIPS
It’s also important to reflect on what skills you need to receive feedback. Especially when it
is something you do not want to hear, and not least because not everyone is skilled at giving
feedback.

Be open to the feedback.
In order to process feedback, you need to at least listen to it. Just
listen, don’t think already about what you are going to say in reply. Also notice the nonverbal communication and listen to what your team member, coach or mentor is not saying,
as well as what they are.

For example, you might say:
“So when you said …, would it be fair to say that you meant …
and felt …?”“Have I understood correctly that when I did …, you felt …?”Make sure that your
reflection and questions focus on behaviour, and not personality. Even if the feedback has
been given at another level, you can always return the conversation to the behavioural, and
help the person giving feedback to focus on that level.

Thank you. Always thank the person who has given you the feedback.
They have already
seen that you have listened and understood, now accept it. Acceptance in this way does not
mean that you need to act on it. However, you do then need to consider the feedback, and
decide how, if at all, you wish to act upon it. That is entirely up to you, but remember that
the person giving the feedback felt strongly enough to bother mentioning it to you. Do
them the courtesy of at least giving the matter some consideration. If nothing else, with
negative feedback, you want to know how not to generate that response again.
