Disclaimer: for unknown reasons this game was denied "early access" by Valve, so it immediately went into full release instead (here and on GOG).
So this game is far from finished and I just had to stop playing when my save got corrupted and won't load again. Be warned.

Yet content-wise I can only recommend it: first and foremost, this title is in a much better shape than that terrible game "Paranoid" maybe ever was which to me was a pleasant surprise to begin with. Yes the game is still very heavy on the hardware and therefore fulfills by no means any industry standards but for what it is, this is a great accomplishment: you're basically playing the same female character already known from "Agony" and "Succubus", this time around just in full human form. What you do is living your everyday life - seemingly never leaving the appartment while every week you have to pay your landlord the rent.
Your flat is well designed and full of details: there's a phtograph which gives you a hint at a whimsical back story, you can do all kinds of tasks (presented in cutscenes), you have a real cat, you keep growing weed on the balcony and so on. Although I could not verify it, your body should even change depending on how much you exercise or eat (like in "Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas") but there's one catch - as Donald Trump famously said: life is what you do while you're waiting to die - you happen to be a prostitute!
You see, "Nymphomaniac" is a period piece set in the early 1990s. And I was a little bit worried they could not get the period right when focusing on historic (social) media like (text) chats in order to attract customers (one-per-day) but I was wrong. Yes, certain aspects are not accurate - like profile pages and an online marketplace for selling VHS tapes of your exercises (among various other things) - but for the most part nothing feels totally out of place.

As for the sexual activities, they are certainly the weakest part of the game: "Nymphomaniac" is no sex simulator and all actions from the main gameplay loop are presented in cutscenes that are somewhat interchangeable. Animation quality is ok but graphics are technically not good at all: most parts are stiff as pieces of wood and hardly recognizable.
The same goes for the erotic quality in general: whether is the protagonist very attractive, nor are any imagined scenes exciting. All creativity obviously went elsewhere.

The highlight of "Nymphomaniac" is definietly how everything unfolds and comes into place: at its core, this "adventure" is still a horror title with interesting social commentary.

There are hints of violence throughout your days (or nights) as a sex worker (both inside of dream sequences and in form of hallucinations). The protagonist being no real human being but from hell.
Another highpoint are the "guests" (customers, male and female) themselves: their pathetic characters show a wide range of personalities - from the cowardly and weak to eccentric stereotypes, violent and misogynistic. Unfortunately the dialogues are limited and repeat themselves all too soon: like with the limited amount of sex cutscenes to choose from during one session, the patience of the customers is also limited when talking to them. Any invitiation triggers an immediate visit but before you let someone in your appartment you have to interrogate the person: This does not make sense of course if the person was already in your appartment and is a recurring customer but the same dialogue options just repeat themselves: the whole payment process is also not shown at all. Until the second week I managed to play it, any violent behaviour inside the chat room or in front of your door does not continue inside your appartment: in your flat you're in command. Everything happens as you wish it should happen - which in part is due to the generic aspects of the sex scenes (BDSM and otherwise) but also may be constraints of censorship taking place. Because the payment process is not shown, you also don't know if your actions will gather higher payment. You may even behave contrary to your customer's desires and still have a "succesful" session.

Anyways, the content of this game is so special, unusual, creative in a thematic sense and extraordinarily crafted - truly beautiful from an idealistic but not realistic standpoint - that I still can only recommend it. Even in its current state (which for some - like me - may again be not even a "finishable" with every save) "Nymphomaniac" immediately catapulted itself into the top five of all "adult only" titles on Steam (or GOG for that matter).

In many ways, we live in desperate times: with narrow-mindedness being the attitude Zeitgeist currently demands the most. It's shocking but in this industry with all its "communities", harmless religious content like this actually does get the same vile treatment as pornographic sexual expression by the very same public: more often than not considered a provocation, it's ridiculed and people mock about it.
Hateful and "woke" atheism may only combat all kinds of "sexism" or "racism" while preaching "love" and "inclusion" just when it suits their own good(s, yes even financially that is): ok, there is some cheesy imagery at present in "I Am Jesus Christ". And its current (Unreal Engine 5) performance is certainly very poor. It's also more fantasy than religion with resemblances ("tropes") being a nod to both "Skyrim" and "Zelda", but the asesthetics as far as I've seen them now are just plain, simple and very traditional in a non-offensive way. As someone who's interested in contrasts I can say that as a first-person exploration/adventure game it certainly very much feels like a counterpart to "Agony", a title set in a traditional depiction of "hell" made by another Polish company.
Yet anyone who knows christianity at least a bit is very much aware of it rejecting any form of "magic" and those effects do certainly look just like that. So that's a problem but because of all those passion plays out there, playing an adult Jesus who at least in this "Prologue" demo version ("Level 1") does not have a voice and therefore is very easy to identify with, definitely is not a "sin": although I did not follow the narrative very far because the cotnroller did not work in text windows I truly consider the original idea alone to be borderline genius.

The passion may not stand front and center in the final product but taking Campbell's hero's journey and transform it into the life(times) of Jesus which is the life of a Jewish preacher who is some kind of a loner, outsider and through his visions gets out confronting the world with his powers and wisdom, is not just a treat for bible buffs like myself.
It's just a good story even non-believers at some point may like. No, it's more than that and even the greatest story ever told - just as that old Hollywood title suggested, and it finally just deserves a proper video game (after 50 years of commercially available products). So all technical problems and low production values aside, I'll definitely buy this title sometime next year when the full "I Am Jesus Christ" will hopefully arrive.
