A co-op horde shooter set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Character customization really sets it apart from many in the genre, allowing you to tailor your play-style to your liking.

After 2 years the game is finally stable and most of the annoyances surrounding the core gameplay loop has been ironed out. The in-game cash shop is still annoying, often will sell you recolors of crap you saw last week, and still doesn't just let you buy what you want.

Slow to start (which is unfortunate for such a short game) and the puzzles can be a bit simple but it certainly is... let's go with "INTERESTING". You might feel a bit nauseous playing this game.

The "Hero Shooter" gameplay is so watered down compared to other games in the genre I'm surprised its not a mobile game. I have played Commodore 64 games with more complex gameplay.

One more negative review in the vast ocean of negative reviews that all read pretty much the same. Maybe if they fleshed out Arms Race to be more than a single level that you go to only for the loot exclusive to it and then never touch it again it MIGHT be worth it.

If you're expecting a upgraded version of Doom 2016, you're going to be disappointed. Doom Eternal is full of half measures and questionable mechanics, torn between throwing out the formula set by Doom 2016 and desperately holding onto certain mechanics without completely understanding what made them fun or interesting in the first place.

The difficulty is ramped up by enforcing a "correct way" to play the game. Certain enemies almost require to be shot with certain weapons regardless of range or situation and going outside of this correct way on the highest difficulties will either get you killed or needlessly drain your pathetic ammo count faster than normal. An extreme example of this is the Cacodemon which can soak up a ridiculous amount of damage unless you shoot ONE grenade at it, you don't even have to time it just chuck one grenade at it and regardless of difficulty it is opened up for a glory kill. But even if you don't waste a shot and always use the correct weapon on the correct enemy you will run out of ammo at least once per major engagement. This is "remedied" by constantly using the chainsaw on enemies to regain ammo. The exception to this are the Hell Knights and Pinkies, which are both a refreshing break and can wreck you in short order.

This moves to how you regain health, ammo, and armor in Doom Eternal. Doom Eternal introduces setting demons ON FIRE, which is not as awesome as you'd think it is as setting them on fire only changes what a enemy drops on death to armor and does not cause them to take damage nor do they do the "burny dance" (aka: flail about while on fire). Health is regained as it was in Doom 2016 via glory kills, you will be seeing a lot of glory kills. Ammo is also regained as it was in Doom 2016 by chainsawing an enemy or by finding ammo pickups in the level, as previously mentioned however you will have to use the chainsaw A LOT so saving up fuel to chainsaw a high priority enemy as you did in Doom 2016 IS NOT RECOMMENDED as you might run completely dry on ammo before picking up enough fuel for a Hell Knight or a Pinky and instead prioritize enemies that only consume one fuel. Also your punch does no damage unless you have charged your BLOOD PUNCH charged (which is a fun concept and a awesome name) so it is good that your chainsaw fuel will recharge enough fuel for a minor enemy. This means you'll fight until you run low on health or ammo, THEN YOU RUN AWAY to look for a loot pinata and either chainsaw them or delicately damage them enough to open them up for a glory kill.

Once you figure out the "correct" way to play the difficulty drops considerably and the only way you die is you forget the formula even on the highest difficulty. Thankfully Mick Gordon continues to be Mick Gordon so I have absolutely no complaints from this game's phenomenal sound track which I might like MORE than Doom 2016. Also the hub is a nice addition full of feature I would like to see expanded in the future.

All this said, if you enjoyed Doom Eternal and are just cruising reviews for kicks then good news! As I was playing this game I was getting some serious Prime vibes (minus the chainsaws and METAL) so if your looking for more and don't mind a drastic tone shift and more of a focus on exploration then Retro Studio's Metroid Prime series might be right up your ally.

A great co-op post-apocalyptic Souls-like third person shooter with a unique twist: the map has a slight random generation to it but the loot table does not. It might take a playthrough or two to get to a event you wanted but once you encounter it your actions dictate your reward, not random generation. A little glitchy at times and can get a little frustrating in single player but it really shines in multiplayer. Join or hosting is easy, whether you are just playing with random people or playing with your friends. You can also reset your progress in the campaign without losing your items, which is good as this game can get crazy fast.

"Life is cheap, Battlemechs aren't."

For those new to the setting Battletech is a turn based tactics game where you often must make the best of a bad situation.

To those familiar with the setting (be it Mechwarrior, Mechcommander, or Mechassault) you will notice a this game plays nothing like any of the video games. Instead, the title "Battletech" is fitting as you cannot just get a full lance of the meanest mechs you can find and just mosey towards victory.

Your mech pilots (mechwarriors) will die, your mechs will be busted up frankenstein patchworks sporting whatever you can find rather than some "optimal" build, and you will be counting pennies just trying to make it to your next payday. All the while you are trying desperately to salvage or buy better mechs and equipment. This game is unforgiving and doesn't care about fair play. Tactics will be your only ally and I DO NOT recommend playing this game in Ironman mode your first playthough.

HOWEVER: you can modify certain aspects of your playthrough to make it easier (or harder if you are a sadist). Jacking up rewards, decreasing the amount of salvage required to actually build a mech, etc until you are able to field their fiercest lance of mechs this side of the Clan invasion within a short period of time.

It's old but still serviceable. Some modern features you have come to expect from modern FPS games are missing (progression, customization, etc), space combat has not aged well, and the AI ranges from completely inept to strait up broken but you're not going to find a better Star Wars style game.

I could respect this game if A.) the men's outfits was just as "revealing" as the women (why can't men show off the goods?) and B.) ONE OF THE PLAYABLE RACES WASN'T ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CHILDREN IN SLUT WEAR.

A spectacle speedrunner geared towards completionists. The game is separated into 3 gameplay modes tied to a respective character and while fun it often suffers from a lack of difficulty at any level. But solid presentation can help you overlook easy and often shallow gameplay.

With “Classic” gameplay you play as Classic Sonic, if you played any of the early Sonic titles or played generation you might be familiar with this type of gameplay. The main focus here is platforming, and can be considered to have the most diverse paths of the 3 characters to get from the beginning to the end of the level.

Next is “Boost” gameplay with Modern Sonic, this is gameplay more associated with recent Sonic games where the focus is generally to get from the beginning of the level to the end as rapidly as possible. This can easily be considered the weakest link of the 3 types of gameplay (though it is not without it's moments) with levels usually being straight forward and generally failing to take advantage of Modern Sonic's speed as previous titles did outside of unobstructed lengths of level that provide no actual challenge.

The main draw of Sonic Forces is the new gameplay associated with the new avatar character (henceforth referred to as “Original the Character” because it amuses me). While far more interesting than Modern Sonic it does suffer from some of the same problems. Original the Character can be equipped with different items to traverse the level but levels rarely take advantage of Original's equipment with most levels playing exactly the same regardless of equipped item. Most completionist goals are focused on this character as all in-game rewards are tied to items or cosmetics for Original.

There is levels featuring both Original and Sonic but add nothing but “boost” to Original's move set.

In the end Sonic Forces is not a bad game; it simply is too easy, simple, and linear. I hope we see more of Original the Character in later games (or DLC) that greatly expands their gameplay and focuses more on them rather than splitting gameplay between 3 characters.
