Death Road to Canada is a retro-styled action roguelite that lets you follow a ragtag group of survivors on their escape from a zombie-infested United States.

Right off the bat, Death Road to Canada is filled with lasting, unique charm, combining the aesthetics of classic Americana with its own brand of surreal, meme-y, so-dumb-it's-funny-again humor. Every single bit of text in this game is dripping with personality, and rarely is there a dry moment to be found. Each run in Death Road to Canada is a new opportunity to experience a bizarre, Mad-Libs-esque story that defies imagination. If you've ever wanted to raid a Wal-Mart with an entourage consisting of a garden gnome, a sumo wrestler, and Waluigi, (yes, you can make custom characters in this game) then this is the perfect game for you.

With regards to gameplay, Death Road to Canada isn't too outside-of-the-box compared to other roguelites, which isn't a bad thing considering its excellent presentation. Resource management is heavily emphasized, and you'll constantly be making stops along your journey among hordes of zombies to explore for food, fuel, and medical supplies and making strategic decisions that affect the morale and safety of your group. The combat system also ties into this aspect as well - bullets are a very scarce resource, unlike in a lot of other zombie games, forcing you to save them for the really bad encounters near the end of the game. One criticism I have is that the game can start to feel formulaic once you have a winning strategy, but one can suppose this can be relaxing in its own way; it's very easy to lose yourself in a flow state while playing this game. I found that this game especially helps with my anxiety because I can figuratively turn my brain off and tune out the outside world while playing.

The developers have continued to improve this game over the past six years with massive content updates that show their passion and dedication to the project. Buy this game to show your support to a team that cares a lot about their creation.
