This game is the epitome of having the potential to be one of the best I ever played.
That is, if it wouldn't be so dumb.
It has very high "highs" and very low "lows".
In other words, as much as it could amaze me, it could infuriatingly frustrate me.

The highest "high" is the scale of the game. There are many endings, secrets, options, items, details, locations etc.
Which makes me very sad, because I would lose all my hair trying to experience it all, being the very low "lows".

Most aspects of this game are a very cool attempt, executed poorly.
The interactive mechanics are interesting, something you don't find in a lot of games, but at the same time total garbage.
Not only do you have to look for every little detail, but 90% of the game is looking into a shelf, cupboard, whatever... and finding nothing at all. What's the point?

THE PUZZLES.
I love the attempt to make it "find the clues yourself in your surroundings and documents without hints" (if you play on difficulty normal or higher).
I've been craving this for a very long time, because most games lack this and just give you the solution on a silver plate, not letting you think at all.
And I love that the game also lets you choose a difficulty where you actually have hints.
BIG HOWEVER.

As aforementioned, this game is gigantic, not only story-wise but location-wise as well. Which is a great thing. However, it takes an eternity to explore.
In correlation with the crap interact-ability mechanics, you can't find ♥♥♥♥. They're either stupid details, stupid choices by the developers, or just stupid mechanics.
TWO GREAT EXAMPLES:
  • there is one code you can decipher only if you know Japanese.
  • there are only like two pick-able items in the whole game that have a code hidden somewhere on them. It would never even cross my mind to look for that in the first place, and it only happens twice, from like 50+ items you pick up along the way.
You literally cannot finish this game without a guide or some other third-party informationist, if you're not willing to bang your head against the wall for tens of hours straight.

The story isn't bad, even though the bizarre superphantasmagoria isn't really my cup of tea, but I like everything regarding the ghost stories.

The voice acting and animations are amazing back to back, but I hate the character interactions.

The janitors' are just ♥♥♥♥♥. You barely have any place to hide, and they can smell your bone marrow across several rooms. And when you hide, be prepared to doomscroll on your phone because it takes forever for them to leave your vicinity.

The game has some minor bugs, but when they happen you know they do.
You, constantly loading to an autosave, with one of the janitors sniffing your 1HP butt crack with the last manual save being half an hour old.

Overall, very good game, for an extremely low price at a discount considering the quality, but you have to be prepared to roam around pointlessly a lot and trying not to break your shins once you find what you've been missing in a guide.
