Other Features
Special food buffs
Some foods grant unique effects when eaten by Wieneke. Here's a list of them and what they do:
  • Creamy Potato Purée:
Reduces the rate at which Possession Pains are accumulated by 33% for one day.

  • Stuffed Pepper Poppers:
Increases damage dealt during possession by 12.5% for one day.

  • Fig-Stuffed Trunk:
Reduces hunger drain by 25% for 4 days. Note that this effect does not stack with Uncompromising Mode's Snot Roast buff.

Giving a ride to your friends
  • Wieneke has the ability to give a ride to her fellow survivors when possessing large and fast enough creatures. Simply right-click another player to allow them on; said player then needs to right-click you as well in order to complete the action.

  • Currently, the following possessed creatures are able to give rides to other players: Beefalo, Koalefants, Grass Gators, Rooks, Bearger, Dragonfly, Moose/Goose, Moslings, and the Ancient Guardian.

Sprinting
  • There's a few creatures that move quite slowly, which could potentially make them unusable in most situations.

  • To that end, there's a sprinting feature! Double clicking, or double tapping a movement direction while possessing activates your sprint.

  • Sprinting is only available for creatures that are slower than a survivor. The speed bonus you get from sprinting puts you exactly on-par with a survivor's run speed.

Reawakening dead creatures
  • Certain creatures that have unique item drops may be reawakened by Wieneke, summoning a slightly weaker version of the original. Simply possess such an item, and use the Awaken action to begin!

  • When unpossessing an awakened host, it'll pop back into its item form. Note that all of its stats are saved within the item: you can even view the summon's health by use of a special inventory icon, or by examining it.

  • Awakenable summons drain 10% more hunger overall compared to possessing normal creatures.

  • Awakenable summons can be healed without summoning them: the same items Wieneke can't use to restore her own health, such as a Healing Salve, can be used on her summons instead.

  • Healing a summon while it's within its item form grants a bonus: a percentage of the summon's maximum health is added on top of the original healing value, based on the potency of the heal. Honey Poultice for example would grant an extra 12.5% healing bonus on top of healing the usual 30 HP.

A unique craft, the Quelling Candle
  • The Quelling Candle is a structure that can be prototyped at a Prestihatitator, requiring 1x Glommer's Goop, 1x Rope, and 2x Nightmare Fuel to craft.

  • When placed, it lights up a tiny area and prevents one nearby unpossessed monster from attacking other structures, such as walls or fences. This means you can build pens for otherwise hostile mobs, and keep them near your base, ready for possessing!

  • Additionally, any tethered monster will slowly recover up to 10% of its maximum health per day.

  • The candle does need to be fuelled: this can be done by possessing it, or using the "Fuel" action while possessing the candle. The candle starts with max fuel when built.

  • Once fuelled, you may tether a monster by unpossessing it nearby the candle. A visual effect and sound should play to indicate you did it correctly. You can always confirm something's tethered by checking if the mouth of the candle is glowing.

  • It can hold up to two charges of fuel, indicated by the amount of flames near the wick. Fuel is consumed when taking a tethered monster out of its thrall.

  • Note monsters can and will simply walk out of the candle's range if there's no barrier, untethering them! The maximum working range for the candle is two diagonal tiles. Additionally, a monster will be untethered from its candle when attacked.

Another unique craft, the Quelling Canister
  • The Quelling Canister is an item that can be prototyped at a Shadow Manipulator, requiring 1x Glommer's Goop, 2x Moon Rocks, and 2x Nightmare Fuel to craft.

  • The canister primarily functions as a portable container to hold onto awakened items, similarly to the Polar Bearger Bin. It has three slots.

    Capturing creatures
  • Secondarily, the canister when emptied can be used to capture almost any creature inside. Doing so turns it into an awakened item, which means the creature can be summoned at any time by possessing the canister and using the Awaken action.

  • To capture a creature, simply hover your mouse over an empty Quelling Canister in the world while possessing said creature. You should then be able to use the Capture action. While capturing, the creature will try to kick you out. The process will fail if its health is still above 50%. The lower its health, the easier it is to capture.

  • Once the canister has been used to capture a creature, it can no longer be used as a container. You can however hammer the creature canister to recoup some of the materials used to make it, but the creature itself will be lost.

  • Since it'd no longer be a container, creature canisters can be put into regular Quelling Canisters to save on inventory space.

Possessed creature damage
  • Dealing damage works a bit differently than one might expect for possessed creatures: rather than dealing a flat amount of damage each hit, the damage output is based on a few things; namely the host's attack speed, and its original damage.

  • For example, a Spider would normally only deal 20 damage per hit. But when possessed, its damage output is snapped to a number that represents player weapon damage, and is then modified further.

  • Because the Spider attacks so slowly, the final damage number will be much, much higher than a regular Spider's: imagine a player attacking many times within the same time frame that the Spider takes to deal one attack.

  • Essentially, to make the Spider, or any other creature deal a viable amount of damage, we crank the number up based on how many player attacks were "missed" within the same time frame.

Possessed creature special actions
  • Certain creatures gain unique actions or abilities when paired up with Wieneke. These actions automatically pop up when applicable during a possession.

  • For example, together with Wieneke a Moleworm can dig up tree stumps simply by digging through them, or dig up anything by popping its head above the surface, using a special action.

  • If you're ever unsure if a host has any special effects associated with it, try examining yourself while possessing (the default key for that is I)! A special panel should appear alongside your portrait, giving more information about the host, including its damage output.

(Quelling Candle)
(Quelling Canister)
