Hound Drones. Useful?

So I keep looking at the hounds, specifically the ones from the hound station, and trying to figure out a use for em but not coming up with anything. They don't defend themselves if attacked, drop weapons on recharge and can't force them to attack even when drafted.
Am I doing something wrong or are they just yanky like that?
