From the chill, windswept steppes beyond the Bastion, the hordes of the Hung gather beneath bloodstained horsehair banners…

Disclaimer: The Hung are a difficult campaign, with a combination of micro-intensive units and a weak early game roster. Expect a difficult start which gradually snowballs as you build your hordes and recruit your higher-tier units.

Disclaimer, the second: While inspired by real-world cultures, the Hung (and their faction names) are from Games Workshop's Warhammer IP. I do not claim that these are the Mongols, Huns, Turks, etc., nor do I want to represent a real-world culture or faith. The Hung are firmly the Chaos-worshipping steppe nomads of Warhammer Fantasy.



The Hung – Lords of the Steppes brings a new playable race galloping into Total War: WARHAMMER III — complete with a bespoke roster, original characters, and unique mechanic representing the infamous nomadic Hung tribes of the Eastern Steppes.

  • The Mung — Led by Ur-Khan "The Swift Fury", starting in Ironfrost Glacier, Naggaroth
  • The Man-Chu — Led by Zao Korr "The Thrice-Damned", starting in the Eastern Steppes

New Race
  • "The Hung" - Playable in both the Realms of Chaos and Immortal Empires campaigns, this mod introduces a fully fleshed-out race similar to the Warriors of Chaos, Beastmen, and other factions.
Full Custom Roster
  • A cavalry-heavy roster supplemented by powerful archers and fearsome monsters, the Hung army is a fast and deadly threat which can roll over the unprepared.
New Playable Horde Factions
  • Led by Ur-Khan, a former slave of the Druchii, the Mung follow a path of vengeance as they burn their way across Naggaroth, expanding the Endless Steppes in honor of the gods.
  • In the east, the avaricious Zao Korr leads the Man-Chu in a war against Grand Cathay, seeking to crack through its Bastion and conquer the fertile lands beyond.
Five Minor Factions
  • With plans to expand each, in time, into a playable major faction.
Custom Mechanics
  • Deceive enemies and manipulate situations to your advantage with the Hung's Treachery  options.
  • Recruit powerful units using pilfered knowledge and captured monsters by razing regions across the world in the Adaptive Warlords feature.
  • Choose where to place Tribal Gatherings , tent cities which can generate great wealth and allow recruitment of powerful units, based on seasonal Fertility  in local provinces. Strike a balance between exploiting the landscape and becoming more firmly entrenched in it.

Known Issues
  • Since 5.0, campaign effects will show units your faction does not have access to (if another Hung faction does, such as the Host of Shaarnor's access to certain Slaaneshi units)
  • Tribal Gathering building costs will display in red even when you have sufficient treasury to purchase the building. This is related to Omens of Destructions Ogre Camp update.
  • Very little attention to audio and voicelines. You can expect a lot of Wulfrik the Wanderer and various Chaos marauders until I can eventually implement some custom audio in tandem with the Audio Mixer team.

Seems like it needs some optimization. Noticable fps drops with Hung army in screen even when zoomed out

Keeping my eye on this mod, really like what I see here. Some crashes here and there but its nice to see a minor faction from the lore get some fleshing out.

Zao Korr has been walking to the fight for 95% of the duration of the battles I've done. He's level 43 now, but I've only just finished the third quest. Been on quite a stampede, so I didn't have time to do the quest. Didn't get the mount. This was before the update, but now I've gone back and did the third quest battle again. Same result. Zao Korr will be foot slogging the rest of this campaign.

Played with the mod a bit today. Looks like it'll be a lot of fun. Minor potential issue: a number of technologies that should affect all Hung Nomad units appear to be affecting the Great Weapon Pillagers but not the Dual Weapon version. Likewise, the first redline skill says it affects Spawneaters, but doesn't appear to in practice.

It was coming from the damn pigeon the whole time? god damn it lmao thanks for the heads up i'll be sure to use it properly going forward, for real though this has to be one of the best mods i've ever played for a TW game really hyped to see it get custom voice lines and hopefully music etc

@Han Swolo Sorry to hear that. I'll keep testing to see if there's something I can do to make that more stable. To confirm, you're able to play it but the battle never ends once you defeat everything?

@Heyo Okoii! Cool to see you playing! Herald of War is the Chaos Vulture RoR's passive when he is flying, affecting allies and enemies beneath him. It takes practice to figure out how to use him effectively, but I found it a fun tactical element for disrupting enemy formations or causing bloodbaths once melee lines had collided. If it is too difficult to utilize, you can just swap him out for another unit (I've done that myself because sometimes trying to micro that birb can be a bit much).

Zao Korr's 3rd quest battle still not working, but if its not reproducable I imagine its a compatability clash with another mod. All good, Mod is still very well done and stuff like this is an occupational hazard:steamthumbsup:

Yo something called Herald of war keeps popping up on my troops every couple of seconds in battles and forcing them to rampage, +15 melee attack/ -5 melee defence immune to psychology and rampage. It's disrupting battles extremely badly i'm not sure if it's intentional or not but please please if you could look into it that would be huge, this mod is absolutely incredible otherwise actual official dlc quality if not better 11/10

I need to do testing but im not sure if mounted housemaster are worth using over heavy horse archer given you get less models
