Love Marriage Family

Description

For CK3 version: 1.16.2.3

The purpose of LMF is to add more realism and more roleplaying options to the aspects of CK3 that center on relationships, marriage, and family. From ensuring that the AI makes more sensible choices for spouses and lovers (no more young lovers paired up with old crones) to adding more interactions with your family & heir to adding more noble maidens as marriage options... there's a lot here to add to your game.

Additional information on the various features can be found in the discussion thread

Also included is the ANSF3 mod, which allows you to construct a family for your custom rulers:

Yes, some. The mod increases the number of children overall (since more courtiers are getting married). If you're concerned, there are game rules allowing you to restrict or even shut off many aspects of the mod, to make them less burdensome on your PC.

DO NOT USE THIS WITH AGOT! AGOT HAS INTEGRATED LMF!

It's NOT going to play well with Total Conversion mods - the bigger and more expansive the mod, the more likely there are going to be conflicts, even if it appears like the mods load together fine.

It's also not likely to play well with other mods that touch on the same subjects, as there are a number of places where LMF needs to include the entire vanilla event file (pregnancy & birth files, in particular).

More detailed information on compatibility can be found in the discussion thread.

Can I Incorporate This Mod Into My Own?

If you like, certainly. Just give me credit somewhere.

Speaking of credit, a few acknowledgements of my own:
  • Obviously, the A New Sensible Family 2 mod. My updates have been spun off into its own A New Sensible Family 3 mod by request, for use by those who simply want to access it without the rest of the tweaks LMF provides.

  • The features involving marriage AI and additional young maidens being added have their root in the Less Old Wives and the More Babies for Counts & Dukes mods, both of which haven't been updated in quite some time. I've almost completely reworked the code by this point, but credit's still owed for where I started.

Please feel free to report any issues (ideally in a discussion thread) and I'll deal with them as promptly as I can.

@dan_457 The point of that is to catch betrothals where the status of the betrothed has changed since the marriage arrangements were first put into place... they agreed to marry patrilineally (or matrilineally, as it works for boys too) but in the interim they've become a ruler or heir, a situation where the -1000 malus on incorrect lineality would absolutely apply.

If it's applying when nothing's changed, then I'd be curious to know how you got an agreement for incorrect lineality in the first place (outside of having other submods screwing with the files). That could be a bug that simply needs fixing.

The event DOES respect religion and inheritance laws, by the way, as well as the game rule setting you have on marriage matrineality. Outside of that, it doesn't really do anything that you can't do yourself, and honestly the only change you need to make is to wait until they're an adult to enact your plans. So, no, I won't put a game rule on this one.

Would there be any chance to create a game rule to toggle the breaking of betrothals event - the one to force a matrilineal/patrilenal marriage instead - that was recently added? Or maybe at least make it follow the matrilineal marriage game rule?

It triggers every single time you marry a duchess (or their daughters if they have no sons) and historicity aside its just not fun at all, being completely frank. It closes off one of the very few methods of expanding your realm outside of just conquering. And It feels really bad to plot out a marriage out years in advance, just for this message to pop-up and just throw your plans into the garbage. It really isn't even something that should happen unless your realms religion and inheritance allow it in the first place.

@一壺濁酒戴春風 So, not a bug. You just don't like his ability to do the same as you can. I'll consider adding some restrictions - against one's liege doesn't sound too bad - but that's about it.

how dare he? i think we should get a cb to punish him and force my fiancee to marry me
一壺濁酒戴春風 6 Sep @ 7:24pm
i dont think it is normal for a count to ask for matriarchal marriage, especially the engaged is his liege lord and much stronger than him

@一壺濁酒戴春風 If your fiancee if her brother's heir, then she's an heir. Which part of the trigger is incorrect?

@Osium If you mean for the AI to do it? No, I wouldn't put in such a thing. Geniuses would already be more attracted to other geniuses via trait compatibility, but that's as far as it goes.

@cuomo860 @3788516803 Yeah, I'd need to see more information, because the miscarriage event is a very specific thing. If the pregnancy is invalidated because you aren't in the same place as the husband/lover, you shouldn't receive any notification whatsoever... and that's currently the case, with my testing. WIthout interference from other mods, ofc.

@cuomo860 By the way, there IS an interaction where you travel to your spouse for the purpose of reproduction (or vice-versa). This exists for cases where both spouses are rulers or in separate courts. I guess I could remove the imprisoned portion, though that feels... pretty icky, I dunno.

@rylock @3788516803 Diving a little bit deeper into this I'm not seeing an issue with the trigger. @378... are you seeing an actual event or just noticing that the pregnancy is lost and if so, what event are you seeing? Otherwise, the coding shows it's acting like intending. If you are married to a distant female lord then you shouldn't be able to impregnate them until you are near them.

There may need to be an interaction added where you do travel to see your spouse for the purpose of reproduction but it does make sense as is.

The only thing I do see that may be an unreasonable limit is the imprisoned portion of the trigger as there are some mods that allow such a thing and/or there is the possibility of "conjugal" visits.

I've got a question. Is it/would it be possible to make landed characters with the genius trait, actively seek out and prefer to find geniuses to marry into their family? Aka, geniuses are out there in the world actively competing for genetic traits playing the long game turning their own families (should they be landed) into gigachads?
