i found this from a youtube video posted a few hours ago. crazy to see how old this is and ive only now learned about it, though younger me would never have solved this xd

This is brilliant. At first I thought this was simply a matter of bruteforcing the answer, but then I figured out there really is a logic to it and you can reach the answer by realizing how the circuit works. Would you be willing to share the VMF map? I'd be really curious to know how you made this

One of my favourite concepts on the entire workshop. Still no idea how it was done.
VMan_2002 27 Feb, 2018 @ 4:16am
Cool and unique

I'm not actively planning, but I am tossing around a few ideas.
Nefnoj 12 Jan, 2015 @ 8:14pm
Are you planning on any more Portal 2 maps?
Flamefur 2 Jan, 2015 @ 1:50pm
how you make??
Ravenscaur 14 Dec, 2014 @ 7:01am
Mind-blowing concept, but couldn't complete it because the circuits didn't seem to follow a logic.
Swedish Firefighter 14 Aug, 2014 @ 2:38am
i finished the chamber but don't know what i solved. I did what i that i was supused to do but did not need to finich the line.

Fun consept.

I really loved this map. I have played it before, but I wanted to play it again.
wildgoosespeeder 27 May, 2014 @ 1:06am
I know the two cubes are linked but didn't get the madness going on inside. :P

To exit, I just took advantage of how exit doors operate. If it detects my interesection with the door, it doesn't close with me in between.
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 27 May, 2014 @ 12:20am
Yeah...this map. The bigger cube rotates with the smaller one. Use this to create a circuit path from Start to End.

Source and Hammer either couldn't do what I was coming up with or gave me non-stop weirdness (ex: triggers triggering on nothing when in motion). I could remove the realtime trigger checks and make a single button. That might fix the door issue by not erroneously sending the OpenDoor output (but that doesn't prevent someone from spamming the check button and causing the issue all over again).
wildgoosespeeder 26 May, 2014 @ 11:21pm
I didn't get it. I just sacrificed the cube and pushed against the exit door as the cube was respawning. Once it opened the exit door for a fraction of a second, I just took advantage of how doors function in Hammer.

That is the best map I've ever played!! Well done making this!! :D

cool map nice idea
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 12 May, 2013 @ 8:10pm
That lag is probably because I repeatedly call a script every .04 seconds. Without it, the map wouldn't work. The script, not the lag. :P
Sir Emerald LXIV 12 May, 2013 @ 4:04pm
Really Interesting and Cool! Although, it REALLY lagged my computer a lot. :/
Wolf bytes 20 Mar, 2013 @ 3:24pm
Intersting... I like the concept of linking things together to create a circuit... However, It does seem as if you place the cube one corner down on the cube button, the cube will stay there while activating the doors... Though the circuit clearly inducates it was not solved.... Not sure if this is a glitch you listed or if it's something new. Thought I'd mention it here anyway. [And sorry... I did take advanage of this glitch. But I do see what you would have to do to solve this, and the concept seems really good and challenging.]

Traumatisant / Traumatic ^^

That is correct.

FAN - FREAKIN' - TASTIC !!! I LOVED this puzzle, as well as many others you have designed, rand0m. I, fortunately, have solved the puzzle in what I believe to be glitch-free fashion. I hope glitch-free means that I have to decide what (big) cube facet to "erase" with all 9 tiles gone on the "erased" facet. I find that resetting the cube on the button does this if it fails to "erase" all the tiles, resulting in what I think the glitches are, like you suggested. Therefore, I think the glitches are caused by setting the cube on the button not initially flat on its bottom facet, thereby confusing the triggering mechanism mid-trigger as the cube still rotates as it settles onto the button. After I decide which facet to erase, I twirl the switching paths around on the tiles until I connect properly.

So, my question is: glitch-free means a solution where all 9 tiles are erased on the facet of the big cube that is directly facing me, and ONLY those tiles, right?

I like the idea, but as you've pointed out, there's enough limitations/inconsistencies with the elements that make it too hard to work out. Like Inspirata, I was able to glitch my way to the exit elevator, and unexpected solutions are part of the environment. The inside circuit lines are too busy as a first off. Can I suggest you rebuild this into 3 or more preceding maps with gradual difficulty, starting from a fairly obvious one to imprint the dynamic in the mind of the casual tester. Build the visual understanding in the player's mind through incremental circuitry addition. Most of us are not electrical engineers who can see an instant path through the vast array of electrical spaghetti. Off topic: from recollection, I never did solve a rubiks cube without the written instructions readily available...

rand0m mackes the best levels!
NeKz 23 Oct, 2012 @ 11:49am
LOL you should fix it
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 9 Oct, 2012 @ 8:41pm
Thanks for sticking with it.
panduhz 9 Oct, 2012 @ 7:07pm
Not my type of puzzle, forced myself to finish it anyway. thumbs up for thinking outside the box. inside the box?... uh, whatever.
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 7 Oct, 2012 @ 3:03am
A solution is available on my videos page (linked from YouTube).
I suppose a trivial introduction to the buttons I added to the circuits from Circuits would have been a good idea.
1980 6 Oct, 2012 @ 9:26pm
I couldn't figure out what the circuits and arrows in the box mean, and how their mechanism works. I managed to escape the chamber by putting the cube properly accidently. I think this puzzle would have been much logical and great if players can match the circuits in accordance with the arrows by rotating the cube round.
Le Petit Mort 22 Sep, 2012 @ 7:39pm
Pros:
• Ingenious puzzle concept;
• Effective geometry;
• Hammer level;

Cons:
• Technical complexities of mechanic stress the game engine, often resulting in glitches;

Suggestions:
For a puzzle of this sort, a certain degree of glitchiness is expected, however, the player can often exit before the trigger-logic 'checks' itself; adding a delay mechanism to the door would eliminate this possibility.
The Sojourner 22 Sep, 2012 @ 6:14pm
I glitched my way out instead of solving the test because it's confusing. I couldn't even understand the arrows inside of the cube.
Mustache Matt :{D 22 Sep, 2012 @ 2:57pm
I should have really put this in one message, but it's too late for that now. I'm making a mod for portal 1, and I developed a system to where it fake lets a fizzler travel through a portal. It would help a lot if I could actually program the fizzler to travel through a portal just like a light bridge. Do you think there's a way? If you know a way, please tell me what it is.
Mustache Matt :{D 22 Sep, 2012 @ 2:44pm
I really like the concept. Make a mod!
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 21 Sep, 2012 @ 1:10pm
That's a known bug that I'm trying to fix. Thanks though.
Mustache Matt :{D 21 Sep, 2012 @ 10:27am
I think I cheated. Therefore I think there's a way to cheat. I tossed the cube in the button crooked and it opened the door just long enough to go through.
zazaza 20 Sep, 2012 @ 11:05am
Congrats for creating a whole new game! :) Very very impressive, i can't imagine how difficult this must have been to make. The bugs make it a little annoying, but nothing i couldn't withstand. In the end, when I finally got the solution, the door closed pretty quickly for some reason, but thankfully it opened again after i picked up and put down the cube.
NiclO (- - ) 19 Sep, 2012 @ 3:49am
Very nice map, cool mechanic.
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 16 Sep, 2012 @ 8:04pm
You need to make a path in the circuits leading to the panel (the X). I've put a solution on my videos page (don't want people accidentally seeing the solution before trying the map).
Sunroses 16 Sep, 2012 @ 5:52pm
okay this one is just confusing. I don't get what's even going on!
DR3y 15 Sep, 2012 @ 11:16pm
