Well... I can say this map is frankly awful. Level design is so bad, idea of the going back and taking the green cube is terrible, locations of the checkpoints suck. Cubes don't block the moving cube at the ending part and if you replace the blue cube in the middle, your whole effort gets wasted right away because there is no checkpoint up there. So don't even bother to play this one, ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME.

It's a pretty cool level, I see you had some fun thinking of challenging puzzles :p Only complain I have on that side is that the second owl/save stone isn't visible enough because it's right behind a door. Maybe you could make a system with two platforms closing a gap instead? It'd still work with 2 cubes and it'd make the save point more visible. Not a major issue tho, it's not a very crucial save stone.
And then on the aesthetical side, it has some cool ideas and buildings (I really liked the rails around the platform to get the second energy cube and the way you get out of the closed space in the beginning and see a ton of stuff when you get out), but some places feel too empty, like the inside of the building that contains the second purple cube. The ground was just plain flat without any motives or anything and it felt kinda weird.
So yeah, a good creation, just a little rough and weird on some points ^-^

Hey - I thought of one update to your level you could make ... do I get the level breaker initial and star in lights? :) I love pink.

Make more levels! :)
Mrs Ellie 7 Nov, 2015 @ 4:17pm
I think the level is just fine as is. I had a hard time finding a place to put my purple cube to get up the stairs - you might want to just make it more accessible and open. I think you can just leave it as is, though. I really like the shortcuts - they make me feel VERY smart!!!

teckforce - Thanks! Again, it means a lot to me that people are enjoying my levels.

Mrs Ellie - That's quite clever! But it doesn't seem tooooo difficult to figure out. I want to fix it - but honestly I really want to stop changing this level and move on to new projects. Besides, as I said, finding skips is fun.
teckforce 7 Nov, 2015 @ 3:31pm
Really nice level, puzzles are mentally challenging, as in not just placment but timing as well. There were times I thought I could never go back, but then I found that where there's a will there's a way. Nicely done!

The first shortcut is fairly easy to do ... unless I happen to be trying to video record it. It is: You can jump from rail to rail at the first floating platform area to collect the blue and red cube without activating the platform. Not really a big deal though; it adds to the fun!

Limboh - Thanks for making me aware of this! However, I don't think I'll do anything to fix it because that's pretty obscure and if you figure it out you deserve the skip. It's like another puzzle in the level that was accidentally designed instead of intentionally designed. Besides, finding skips in a level is really fun.

Mrs Ellie - I'll have to take a look at your method to determine if I want to fix it. Please post a video soon!
Mrs Ellie 7 Nov, 2015 @ 9:33am
No - actually, for once, I think I might have ACTUALLY FOUND A QUICKER WAY! How's that from the slowest student in the class who can't even figure out the "easy" Portal 2 community levels? :) :) :) - And all thanks to extensive video training from the best game cheater! :)
I will try to video my shortcut and post.

Is this what you did, Ellie?

I finally finished the level! I found some shortcuts, though. It is possible to keep the purple cube. The last blue cube isn't necessary either. The last puzzle took a while to figure out. Great subtle green cube placement!

I really like the updates! I got SO MUCH FARTHER in the level. I really like so many things about this level; there is exploration, there are safety nets in many places, it has great access to the door unlocking cubes from inside and outside, the gameplay is pretty straightforward and intuitive - there is so much to like! And now that you made the introduction to the level better, I am able to really enjoy it without frustration. There is a nice challenge to the puzzles that makes it really fun to solve them. You succeed at the main point of a puzzle, which is to make the player feel smart. Great job! And I really like the fact that you allow the player to recollect their cubes; this builds trust in the player and is a really nice reward. It is also possible to backtrack when you get lost. This is top notch level building in so many ways!

There are a couple areas that could be a little better, though, to make it even more fun.

I would suggest a way to use a gravity cube to get to the fallen statue in the first upstairs room. There are stairs leading to the statue, so that is logical. Then the hole in the ceiling would be a bonus way to progress. As it is, it is a little hard to solve.

After you get upstairs from there, it would be nice to have a save stone on the roof and a refill green cube, especially if you force the player to use a green cube to solve the earlier room.

That is as far as I have gotten. Great job and I look forward to playing the rest! Let me know if you update anything. I am very impressed! And it is named Updraft now on my box.

Alright, I've taken a shot at redesigning that puzzle to make it easier to understand. Let me know what you think.
Mrs Ellie 1 Nov, 2015 @ 4:52pm
Thanks for the spoiler! I noticed the double trip but could not get it to work. Let me know if you change it and I will play the updated version. Thanks!
BerylRose  [author] 1 Nov, 2015 @ 4:11pm
Mrs Ellie - It's called Abraxas because that's what I named the level when I first created it. Apparantly it's only called "Updraft" on the workshop, and I'm not sure if I can change that.

About the platform and door puzzle - I will change it because I the solution is obviously conveyed pretty poorly. The solution is to When the platform goes all the way down, it will come back up. So all you need to do is power the platform, wait for it to go down and then all the way back up again, then quickly switch the power cube to the door, and jump on the platform. Be sure to pick up the two cubes at the bottom. That's a pretty difficult thing to notice without already knowing it, and I didn't really like it from the start. Not sure why I didn't change it in this update...

So yeah, that puzzle will be replaced soon.
Mrs Ellie 1 Nov, 2015 @ 3:29pm
Also, when I play it, it is called Abraxis, not Updraft. Any idea why?
Mrs Ellie 1 Nov, 2015 @ 3:28pm
I can't get the door open and get the platform to move; I can only do one or the other. Please let me know if you change that part, because I would really like to play the level and I am getting stuck right at the start. Thanks!
Mrs Ellie 1 Nov, 2015 @ 3:27pm
I like the beginning very much; just the right amount of challenge. Great job!
I still can't make it onto the moving platform on the right in the beginning of the main level though; you might consider making it a little easier or giving the player another blue cube to solve it. I just can't figure it out, and that is frustrating. :(
BerylRose  [author] 1 Nov, 2015 @ 2:01pm
If anyone still cares, the level has been updated. Yeah, I kinda forgot about it... There's a whole new area at the start to make the level easier to get into. Check it out!

Very unorthodox methods of solving puzzles. By hiding certain assets, you force the player to test then guess. While generally, I hate levels that do this, I found it wasn't so punishing in this one. Since you've explained in the comments that it's meant to be more difficult, I wouldn't judge it so harshly because you MADE it difficult to progress. It's a breath of fresh qbeh-air, I like your style. :B1:

Great Level. Fantastic Level design. I like this Leven even more than Evaporation!
Mrs Ellie 23 Oct, 2015 @ 7:54pm
You are welcome! I am really looking forward to seeing the rebuild. I would love to make it further into your level; it looks very interesting, but I am not an advanced player. Yet. I am working on my third level now and hope to have some great game play in it. I am so glad you liked the article! Thanks for the feedback. Happy building!
BerylRose  [author] 23 Oct, 2015 @ 7:16pm
When I set out to create this level, I had the goal of making it very, very difficult, since the main game of Qbeh-1 lacked the completely ridicuolus, stumping puzzles I wanted from the game. Still, I totally agree with everything you said in your article, and I realize that the level is difficult to get invested in because you are dropped straight into the meat of it. There's no reason to really care about the level because it never makes you care, which demolishes the slow but rewarding feeling of chewing through a difficult area.

At some point, I will be changing this level quite drastiacally, adding a whole new area to ease players into the level. Expect to see it over the weekend. I may also post a walkthrough video to help people that get stuck but still want to see the rest of the puzzles.

Thank you again for your input.
Mrs Ellie 23 Oct, 2015 @ 6:42pm
I can't get through the door and onto the platform. I just posted an article on building great game levels and avoiding common pitfalls here:
http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/workshop/discussions/?appid=252550
I like your level, but it just is too hard at first. It makes me want to give up; it is better to throw the player a few softballs to get them hooked and then ramp up the difficulty. :)
BerylRose  [author] 23 Oct, 2015 @ 6:16pm
Mrs Ellie - Thanks for the feedback. I will concede that the very first puzzle is a little too obsure and strange, so I probably will change that. However, you say that the door and platform on the right required more cubes than you had, but you also imply that you did get past the first puzzle, meaning you should have enough cubes to do it. All you need is one energy cube to solve the platform and door puzzle, and with the cubes you get from that you can solve the puzzle on the left. If you can tell me exactly where you're stuck, that would help us both a lot.

I admire your dedication to helping people with their levels, and I would really love you to finish this or at least play as much as you can so I can hear what you think!
Mrs Ellie 23 Oct, 2015 @ 3:16pm
I like the aesthetics of the game, but I was unable to get anywhere. The door and platform on the right and the puzzles on the left both required more cubes than I had. Please also consider making the first cube activity slightly easier; beginning puzzles should be very encouraging. Please let me know if you update anything! Thanks.
