The studiomdl execution is another command.
cd C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\team fortress 2\bin
Then you can run studiomdl.
Make sure this appears before you start studiomdl.

Did you do cd to the correct directory? You probably forgot to do that.
The error that appears is the default Windows error. The "is not recognizable" error.
Right?

Can any of the files mentioned on the .qc be found on their respective locations?
Check this first. If you still have problems, let me know.
It's more like this:
studiomdl.exe -game "<path>\steamapps\common\team fortress 2" <path>\tf\materials\models\oc\thunderbird\thunderbird.qc
And yes, you can view it in the Model Viewer. Much easier than starting the game.

You need to indicate which game you are compiling for with the -game parameter. You can compile for TF2, the models work in Garry's Mod no problem.
