rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:20
That is one command. After you type that, you press Enter.
The studiomdl execution is another command.
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:19
Okay, so type in that, then studiomdl along with the rest of the path to it?
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:17
No.

cd C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\team fortress 2\bin

Then you can run studiomdl.
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:17
okay so I type in cd studiomdl.exe -game "<path>C:\Program Files (x86)\steamapps\common\team fortress 2" <path>/tf/materials/models/oc/thunderbird/thunderbird.qc?
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:14
On the prompt. Type cd followed by the location where studiomdl.exe is located.

Make sure this appears before you start studiomdl.

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\team fortress 2\bin>

Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:11
Yes, I did, unless the cd directory has to point to the same direction where my oc's qc is
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:10
Are you sure you are running studiomdl from the right folder?

Did you do cd to the correct directory? You probably forgot to do that.
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:08
yes
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:07
Yes, that is what I meant. The error that appears in the prompt, is it the default "is not recognizable" error?
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:05
It doesn't appear in a box, it appears in the command prompt. which is like I said, sorry, I am a newb at this stuff.
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:04
So let me get this straight, to see if I understand.

The error that appears is the default Windows error. The "is not recognizable" error.

Right?
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:02
yup. Something like that. :/
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 11:02
So the program doesn't even run, is what you're saying?
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:59
Doesn't say. It just say's it can't find the file specified It says nothing about not finding the studiomdl.exe or my qc file for my oc....It's like with every step forward, theirs five thousand different issues that keep me from it....
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:57
What file does it say it can't find?
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:55
What do you mean?
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:54
What is the output of studiomdl?
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:52
Okay, I did that again, and the command prompt still won't locate it....
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:51
Yes.
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:50
I moved the pony source files to my desk top and should I write it like this?
"C:\Users\Will24Blight\Desktop\ponies_source"
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:48
That is in the command prompt. In the .qc you write where the source files are located.
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:47
So to set up the paths I type in steamapps\common\team fortress 2" <path>\tf\materials\models\oc\thunderbird
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:45
It should work, yes.
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:44
That? No I didn't set it up. So I should set up the paths and it should work?
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:41
First line. Check the examples I posted way back.
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:41
Is that in the qc itself?
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:36
Does the $cd line in the .qc point to the right location?
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:34
I can go to the start meu and locate it easily. and I did look at where I placed it.
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:32
Does the .qc file exist?
Can any of the files mentioned on the .qc be found on their respective locations?
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:30
It isn't any of the errors on the page. it just says The system cannot find the file specified
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:26
https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Compiling_a_model#Common_errors

Check this first. If you still have problems, let me know.
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:24
Okay, I put it into commant prompt and it's giving me a error that it can't be found....
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:22
No.
It's more like this:

studiomdl.exe -game "<path>\steamapps\common\team fortress 2" <path>\tf\materials\models\oc\thunderbird\thunderbird.qc
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:20
okay so I type it like studiomdl.exe -teamfortress2 <steamapps_common_teamfortress2_bin><tf_materials_models_oc_thunderbird_thunderbird.qc> ?
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:17
studiomdl.exe -game <path_to_game_folder> <path_to_qc_file>
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:16
Hmm, okay, what do I type in command prompt? Sorry, I am kinda a newb at this. XD
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:15
Run it from the command prompt. It needs parameters.
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:15
Okie, but when I try double clicking on Studiomdl it keeps flashing for a second onscreen and exiting out.
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:13
StudioMDL automatically creates the .mdl file.

And yes, you can view it in the Model Viewer. Much easier than starting the game.
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:12
Okay, how do I make it a MDL file to view in model viewer. and btw, is Model Viewer apart of the process as well?
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:09
Not necessarily.

https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Studiomdl

You need to indicate which game you are compiling for with the -game parameter. You can compile for TF2, the models work in Garry's Mod no problem.
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:09
okay, I dragged and dropped it into the studiomdl and it fashed in screen with the command prompt and exited out, is that suppose to happen?
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:03
Alright and to compile, I just drag the .qc into the studiomdl? Correct?
rcmero  [skapare] 17 sep, 2014 @ 10:01
<path_to_steam>\steamapps\common\team fortress 2\bin\studiomdl.exe
Ms.Angeline V A L V E 17 sep, 2014 @ 9:59
Okay, where is the path to the tf2 one?
