Issue with this mod is the ai picks them as well and you don't know how many they are picking. At least if you disable it you get the points back and lose the skills.

Regarding joel.west's question of whether this mod is the one pushing tomes to instantly be tier 2, it's been half a year since I did the test, but as I recall I disabled portions of my mod list until I narrowed it down to just this mod causing it. I can't remember if I actually tried a game where I had everything except this mod active to rule out confirmation bias (basically I didn't check if other mods caused this issue as well), but this mod on its own was definitely causing my tomes to jump to tier 2.

the 73 added hero background skills are not listed or referenced in a hyperlink but it turns out they are listed in the free tome background hero skills in game info on the tome tab

six of the added hero skills are the ones that add two points to a specific affinity such as NATURE

BUG (TYPO) -- there is a mismatch between in game text and actual mod function. the in game text says the affinity school hero skill adds +3 to both the city production affinity pts AND +3 to that affinity in the Empire Skill tree. in actually the former is true but the affinity hero skill only adds +2 to the ES affinity. +3 to ES would be quite overpowered so it was just a typo that it says +2??

I can report that the bug noticed by ReverseRaven still exists. with your mod (and 67 other mods) I go from picking a starting tome at game setup to having the option to pick a tier 2 tome as my 2nd tome

I had noticed this bug quite some time ago but had no reason to suspect this was linked to your mod. is it??

Hi. First of all, thank you for this mod. I've pretty much played with it exclusively since downloading it.

However, I did find a minor, not game-breaking but odd side effect of the mod. For some reason, when this mod (or the restricted version as well) are enabled, my research jumps straight from picking the starting tome to having my next tome be tier 2.

In a normal game, you would need to pick a tier 1 tome in addition to your starting tome, but with this mod, I can go straight from starting tome to tier 2. It's not a big deal but I was wondering if you could look into it if you had the time. Thank you so much.

ERICdb's Age of Heroic Backgrounds (mod id 2971193777) adds 16 hero governance backgrounds, each of which unlocks new units a city can build if a hero with such a gov background is set to be city governor

as far as I can tell Age of Heroic Backgrounds mod is totally compatible with your mod but there is one missing desired option, namely an option to FORCE each hero in the hero recruit pool to have one of these 16 gov backgrounds. any hero missing one of these 16 hero gov backgrounds is handicapped since they will never be able to add any new units for a city

alternatively rather than force each hero in the hero recruit pool to already have one of these 16 hero gov backgrounds instead allow at most ONE of these 16 hero gov backgrounds to be added later if a recruited hero does not have any of these 16 hero gov backgrounds. this option would be satisfactory but less desirable since some of the 16 hero gov backgrounds allow for better units to be recruited than others. with this alternate method the hero could then be given the most desirable hero gov background (pigfather in my opinion) or have one picked from a small group of equally desirable hero gov backgrounds every time. this restricts the much less desirable hero gov backgrounds (elemental summoner in my opinion) only to come from random chance

I changed the way background hero skills are initially unlocked. See if ending your current turn fixes it.

It is completely possible for background hero traits that unlock certain units to become background hero skills. As an example, I already did this with Friend of Ogres. However, the background hero traits you mentioned are from ERICdb's Age of Heroic Backgrounds and are not in vanilla. @benettonkkb wanted to make a compatibility patch, but I am not sure on his progress. Currently, if you use both mods together, background hero traits like Pigfather will still appear (though the appearance of one of ERICdb's background traits is not guaranteed). To see if a recruitable hero has one of those background traits, you will need to use the inspect button on them.

I plan to make the original, restricted version of this mod allow heroes to have more than 1 background hero skill. I included some potential ideas on how I could incorporate it in a slightly more balanced/rewarding way on the original mod's description.

Please! can you make one of this that you can only choose two of them. One feels too restrictive and any feels OP. I think two is the sweet spot.

Yeah, the modding guide doesn't perfectly explain a lot of things. I figured out what I needed to do mainly from looking at vanilla files, modded files, and a lot of trial and error.

Hey thanks for getting back to me. I downloaded the official Modding Guide, so I can familiarize myself with how to do it, and I think the Resource Manager they reference in the guide and the one that actually runs from the launcher is two different programs. Did you use some other source to learn about modding it?

Not sure about that mod specifically, but the traits may still appear but are hidden. To see if these traits are there, you can inspect recruitable heroes. Feel free to make a submod though. Looking at what was done in the BAHS_Hero_Skills.rpk file gives a idea on how you could quickly make one. You can also probably use the provided text (MO) files from the original mod for the names/descriptions of the skills. The texts are not always perfectly interchangeable between a hero trait and a hero skill but work the vast majority of the time. To make minimum changes, you can edit the other mod's rpk files so that the background traits are not "Starting - Positive" but just "Positive".

This is really cool, Im just now realizing though, that it appears Im missing backgrounds that were added from "Age of Heroic Backgrounds". Makes obvious sense. I'll see if I can look into making a submod, if you wouldn't mind that.

Problem should be solved. If anyone does want to make a translation, the mod only adds 6 new lines of text, so it should be pretty fast. The majority of the text from the mod is pulled from text already in-game.

Hello! This is a good idea, so I want to make a Chinese translation for your MOD, but when your MOD is enabled, the main text will be forced to English, which is not friendly to Chinese players, this problem is in my communication with other authors I learned that it should be that your MOD is bound to the language file. Of course, I didn't make a specific MOD myself, so I'm not sure. I hope you can check it out. In the end this is really a good idea and a good MOD.
