Sometimes annoying how DF saves every old version but doesnt give you a date.

Hi! I'm having kind of the same problem someone else had a while ago - an older save isn't able to load due to this mod :(

I tried the steps mentioned in the link below, but it still isn't working

It works on a new world with DFHack, dont forget to enable at world creation.

This is a great mod - thanks so much. And good on you for releasing it cc0 creative commons.

This mod is a good example for other aspiring modders. It is 8 lines of code, plus another data file of 50 lines that simply lists the sprites. A two layer psd file is included.

An interesting example of how Dwarf Fortress supports user generated content and modding. Some types of custom content can be added to the game with almost no code.

@Sea Jr. you may have two different versions of the mod installed at the same time. Not sure how you managed this unless you installed to vanilla, and additionally enabled the mod. I'm not sure if you can unplug a mod from a save. Also, the most recent version should have that error with the crutch icon fixed.

Two sets of identical icons when selecting squad icons. Looking at the image files there's something messy about the crutches icon in the More_ version, like two images got overlaid but i cant quite parse it. Not sure if I can just delete one set to remove the dupes bc im unclear on which files are calling which image and so on :P

When I'm back from vacation I will modify the files to make them easier to just drop-in. I was a little bit cavalier about the file names when I set this up.

this is the method i found to add this mod when i already had interface tweaks mod


rename CUSTOM_SYMBOLS.png to CUSTOM_SYMBOLS2.png

add this to your existing tile_page_interface file

[TILE_PAGE:MORE_CUSTOM_SYMBOLS]
[FILE:images/custom_symbols2.png]
[TILE_DIM:32:32]
[PAGE_DIM_PIXELS:288:160]

rename graphics_interface from this mod to graphics_interface2
and put everything in your

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dwarf Fortress\data\vanilla\vanilla_interface\graphics or equivalent

Anyone know how to fix this?

Reposting this here after having some difficulty manually installing a mod.

***Ugh, I got everything restored but now when I try to load in it says

"Failed to find compatible mod:
CaZsm's Squad Icons 0.1.1"

I updated that mod during this save to 0.2.1 just fine and now it's throwing me this error idk wth to do.

Nothing in the logs.

It seems like it is because even though it was updated on the save it's attached to the old version somehow.***

@Yerbatrix no not how the game is currently, currently its hardcoded to have only 8 labor detail icons, that repeat once you reach the 8th. Hopefully they change this.

@twsta I use this mod. I thought it'd let you choose which icon to use per each detail, which is a much needed feature, but nah. I assume we will see this feature soon.

Unfortunately labor details only choose from a selection of pre-set icons, up to 8 before repeating. I can make icons for these, but they're quite limited.

Yes, most graphical mods or simpler mods that don't affect world generation can be added to an existing save. You'll need to past the objects and/or graphics folder from the mod into the folder in installed_mods for a mod currently being used by that save, or into one of the vanilla folders in data\vanilla\ if the save isn't using any mods.

I don't use burrows often so I didn't even notice, that's cool. I can definitely do a couple of layer related icons as well.

A few other burrow-specific ideas for restricting dwarves to various industry areas:
Anvil, goblet/tankard/mug, mushroom, wheat, gem, chisel (& hammer), spool of thread, pickaxe, fish, hospital (swiss cross? Bandage? )

Just noticing that these icons get used not only for squads, but also for burrows, so it's a two-in-one mod!

Given that these icons work for burrows too, maybe an icon to depict the surface (tree? Grass? Sun?) and one to depict the fortress (Door? Fort? Crossed swords / crossed axes?) could be handy?
