I have a weird bug going on, I probably messed up somehow when I reinstalled but I haven't been able to figure it out. All skills cost 0 points so soldiers get all possible abilities whenever they level up, doesn't affect wotc faction soldiers. Can someone enlighten me what's wrong?

Experimental has the latest stuff on it, though I hope to make a release to this version soon.

Hi everyone, Hi @Tedster - I am in the process of preparing a new Campaign based on your TedJam List here: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3310020642
I see that in the list there is a link to Long War of the Chosen [Experimental] version of the mod with ID 2663990965 But there is no regular LWotC version with ID: 2683996590
Is this intentional? Or was the regular version not yet available when you created the list? Which one should I use for the most current playthrough in August 2025 ?
Guacamacole 23 Aug @ 4:16pm
Is this compatible with the Halo mods (was of the chosen version) ?
Tedster  [author] 21 Aug @ 8:47pm
@ItsVeryOrdinary - the visuals of the game are actually completely disconnected from the game logic (look up MVC architecture if you want more technical details), so it's actually a visual bug where the units are. Various speed-up mods make it more likely to happen, and the save/load should restore the actual location unless it decides to render them under the map. checking for highlights with AOE, or tilescanning is the best way to tell where they actually are.
Deathraven13 21 Aug @ 5:49pm
This tend to happen, you reload and they are somewhere else but If you remember their old location you can target them, or you can target them using the icon next to your actions (I think you need to enable something like ennemy icons or move planner).
ItsVeryOrdinary 21 Aug @ 5:42pm
I probably missed something but I keep getting a bug where when I load a save the LWOTC enemies teleport to different locations. Twice it's happened where an enemy teleports underneath the map and shoots me with pinpoint accuracy regardless of cover but is impossible for my soldiers to attack. Is there a known fix for this, or maybe a mod incompatibility?
ThePwnageKitty 21 Aug @ 1:46am
@disasternoj it should be in a location like this C:\Users\yourprofile\Documents\My Games\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\XComGame\SaveData. if you installed it on a different drive theres a good chance it moved there, but it should be in that pathing. if that doesn't work try having steam relocate it to another drive and then back to C. also I never use the new mod launcher because it doesn't seem to let me have the older xcom 2 base game mods active, so I'm not sure if that is causing any issues for you....
DDD 19 Aug @ 2:35pm
Great mod , No shame starting from the lowest diffcty then go from there
megabot 18 Aug @ 4:23pm
Thanks for the info Tedster! I was told to search for Qol collections but was not told that there are pinned ones or that I should pick them. that will help!
disasternoj 18 Aug @ 2:06pm
Could someone direct me to the location of the game saves? I've disabled Cloud Saves, but the files are still nowhere to be found in the Documents->My Games bit (War of the Chosen folder is empty except for a mod .bin file) or SteamApps (XCOMGame folders have no Saves folder).

Does this mod/ the New Mod Launcher place the save files somewhere else?

esrashoestring 17 Aug @ 1:15pm
working good. only issue is that my master psi operative has an impending upgrade but nothing shows up in the psi lab because they don't have the prerequisite abilities for either of the 2 final abilities. they would have needed Fuse or Soul Steal I think to get access.
Tedster  [author] 17 Aug @ 1:27am
if you want a curated content expansion, there's the TedJam+ collection maintained by myself, there's also Tiaz's collection but I have not played it and don't officially support it. for QOL collections, Sgt Hobo's (in the pinned discussion thread) is the standard recommendation.
megabot 16 Aug @ 6:10pm
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2809203986 most of the mods from this collection. I am guessing that the mod adding tech rewards is the one doing that - though I am not sure, because it is both the research screen and the encyclopedia (forgot the actual name of it unfortunately) which has descriptions of meld and things like defector aliens that can be recruited
Garr Incorporated 16 Aug @ 12:24pm
Vanilla LWotC does not have gene enhancements whatsoever. Those would be from one of the mods that implement Meld into the game. Personally I also encountered this behaviour with research projects, but this is 100% due to me also using MOD Collection mod to bridge some additions to my LWotC campaign.

Just to check, @megabot - which QoL mods have you added to the game? Or maybe somehow you used a different mod compilation, and some configs for vanilla research remained despite removing the mod causing it?
Necromancer 16 Aug @ 12:21pm
@RustyDios I found that in the files but wasn't sure exactly what I was changing. Thanks for the insight, didn't know that.
megabot 16 Aug @ 11:27am
out of curiosity, where exactly do I get gene enhancements in LWOTC, or alien operatives? or is the info added by some other (quol - I have no other content) mod? it says in red text about researches how autopsies unlock genetic modifications as an example
RustyDios 15 Aug @ 11:57pm
Well, if they grazed for 1-2 the vanilla result would have been a miss ....
The graze chance adds to the UI turning an 80% shot into a 100% shot, but not telling you that 10% either side of your shot is "graze" territory ...

That aside there should be a setting in the Mod Menu to adjust the band, can even set it to 0graze
Necromancer 15 Aug @ 10:39pm
So one big thing I want to edit in the files is grazing. I have had multiple 100% chances of hitting that should deal 3-5 dmg but instead end up "grazing" for 1-2. Is there some kind of way to disable this? I feel like if I'm told 100% then it should be 100%.
ThaMuffinMan 14 Aug @ 6:12pm
Can Confirm, if u get : SupplyExtraction_LW began without any crates, you need the " Shen's last gift dlc"
Gerishnakov 13 Aug @ 4:34am
@megabot I just type any notes I want to make into the bio, above the soldier's date of birth and background. There's also a mod I use that makes the Bio visible on the soldier details screen.
RhodeXLX 12 Aug @ 7:09pm
megabot 12 Aug @ 7:32am
how does that work? like, do you give them a different description?
Gerishnakov 12 Aug @ 6:38am
@megabot I juse use the base game Bio screen for that.
megabot 8 Aug @ 5:34am
heya! apologies for asking: are there any notes inside of the game, or mods to allow you to stick notes to soldiers? I ask because I always forget what their baseline stats are when I turn them into units like snipers or nerds (because high aim means they should be fulfilling a direct damage role, while low aim usually means that they fit into a support role, be it spotter or medic)
Tedster  [author] 5 Aug @ 6:23pm
I've investigated this but haven't been able to reproduce it. From what I've seen, the game unequips the units the moment the covert op is sent out. Internally, LWOTC actually uses the "on covert action" state for all infiltrating units and haven advisors, not just the base game covert actions, so it should be stripping all of your unequipped units.
rubyeye 5 Aug @ 10:33am
I've noticed an interesting "bug" with the soldiers you send out to do Covert Missions if you play LWOTC with the Resistance Ring active. During mission loadouts there is a useful button at the bottom labeled Unequip Barracks that " strips gear and equipment from all units NOT currently selected for the mission ."

Unfortunately, this also affects the soldiers you send on Covert Ops, which it should not. So when they get "Ambushed" and I have to do a rescue mission, those covert soldiers are stripped of all gear and are helpless on the battlefield with none of the weapons I originally equipped them with.

I'm sure this "bug" has something to do with how LWOTC has disabled Covert Actions by default. Because any soldier I select as a Haven Advisor still has their gear equipped when I use the [Unequip Barracks] button.
Shale 5 Aug @ 6:26am
Cheers m8 figured it must of been something i overlooked
RustyDios 4 Aug @ 6:18pm
turn off display aim assist in extended information, known issues, covered in the FAQ
Shale 4 Aug @ 2:59pm
first time using this mod and on my first mission all my aiming % are showing up at 0 anyone else had this issue, just asking in case its some difficulty feature that i missed or a mod conflict before i starts the long process figuring out which one is causing it
Nico 3 Aug @ 6:25pm
@thepizza2002: This mod completely removes resistance orders. They still show up when you unlock them but you can't use them. Though there is an option when startign a campaign that allows you ot use them regardless. But since they simply give you free stuff they were too annoying to balance which is why they got removed.
thepizza2002 3 Aug @ 5:46pm
does this mod change how resistance orders work? i thought they normal show up every month or am i missing something?
Your Best Friend 3 Aug @ 9:17am
I tried going back to Vanilla WotC and straight up can't, it is garbage in comparison. Thanks for your good work, guys.
_Obsidian Pharoah 29 Jul @ 6:49am
hey got a officer issue here, whenever i go to train a officer skill it takes me to their abilities and not the officer skill tree, they are also max rank so thts not the issue. any guiding words??
Striker 27 Jul @ 7:51pm
im having an issue where when promoted my guys automatically get all skills for free on that column and skills cost 0 to get. Has anyone else encountered this issue? And how can i fix it but still play long war?
RustyDios 26 Jul @ 8:47am
Like has been said MANY MANY times in this threads comments (and is the general consensus in the modding community) .. the default Firaxis/2k/Steam built-in launchers SUCK.

Please download the much much much better community maintained Alternative Mod Launcher and launch the game using this. Google should bring up it's github as the first result when searching. Follow its FAQ/Setup guide. With the AML nearly 99% of "mod(s) not working" issues cease to exist.

Thankyou all ... :)
Cranium 26 Jul @ 7:24am
Hello everyone! I finally managed to launch this mod. The problem was that you need to select in the library xcom 2, properties/launch options/open new mod launcher, launch the game this way in the launcher window select the mods tab and in the mods window manually check the boxes in the list of mods, only after that you can play. I think that the developers should indicate this in the instructions so that in the future no one encounters such problems.
Tedster  [author] 25 Jul @ 5:19pm
when they removed the 2K launcher, they made the new launcher unable to load mods that are not marked "for WOTC" when you launch WOTC, even if they are checked. so yes, you'll want to get the Alternative Mod Launcher instead.
Deathraven13 25 Jul @ 5:06pm
Sure whatever. :steamthumbsup::MGS2_Otadot1:
Cranium 25 Jul @ 5:03pm
I understand your logic, the players are to blame for the mod not working, even though they do everything according to the instructions, the developers from Firaxis are also to blame for the mod not working, the only ones who are not to blame are the mod developers
Deathraven13 25 Jul @ 4:25pm
It's not the mod, it's about how you apply mods, firaxis launcher wasn't in XCOM2/WOTC at the start, but ok don't play the mod it's better for you since the mod do requiere to think more and is a lot more difficult than XCOM2 WOTC. Kinda sad that you got defeated even before starting but I'm sure we will all move on from such tragedy.
Cranium 25 Jul @ 4:19pm
To be honest I didn't understand anything, thank you for your efforts, but I suppose that the developers need to approach their mod responsibly and release it when it works, and not inflate the hype
Deathraven13 25 Jul @ 4:10pm
I've forgot that I've uninstalled XCOM2. Basicaly you go to XCOM folder and you use the modlauncher in the launcher (XCOM2 not WOTC), you select all the mods then hit play, once you are at the main menu exit and then launch XCOM2 via the XCOM2 WOTC folder, your EXE should have -review -noRedScreens in it, you'll skip Firaxis launcher this way and your mods won't be affected, you'll see "LONG WAR" replacing "New game" or something like this, you know you'll be good especialy If you start with 8 soldiers. There is the alternative launcher option but I've never used it.
Deathraven13 25 Jul @ 4:02pm
So you are using firaxis default launcher ? That's probably your issue, old on I'll check how to do it correctly.
Cranium 25 Jul @ 4:00pm
I'm waiting for your ideas on how to make this mod work
Cranium 25 Jul @ 3:55pm
The "PLAY" button in the Steam library, if I understand the question correctly
Garr Incorporated 25 Jul @ 3:52pm
What have you used to launch the game?
Cranium 25 Jul @ 3:51pm
if I follow the instructions, but the mod does not work, then this is not the user's problem, everything was done according to the instructions, all the specified dependencies were installed, but instead of the mod, the usual standard XCOM 2 WotC
Deathraven13 25 Jul @ 3:26pm
@Cranium If the majority of people can run the mod but you can't then the problem comes from you. Check the requiered mods and follow the "getting started" steps.
If you still can't run it then rather than rage tell us what happen, or don't.:MGS2_Otadot1:
