heal hp as a bonus mission would actually be a very smart idea. that and winning a round. kills as a bonus mission is also good.

well TF2 should not have "random" crits to begin with. but even more so they shouldn't be on a deathmatch map. so I hope you do disable them. me getting 3 random rocket crits in one round was honestly disgusting. one shotting enemy after enemy on deathmatch.

but then again disabling them would make heavy's mittens useless. so idk if there's a way to disable random crits for everything else except his mittens, but eh. even if it is disabled for him included, it's an okay trade for no random minigun/rocket/melee crits.

the ghosts should be fixed soon, i remade the map using VScript so that ghost stuff is fixed! I could definitely consider disabling random crits

Love this map but seriously why are random crits enabled on it?? I literally got 3 random crit rockets in one round. Random crits should not be able to happen on this deathmatch map...

the map is ok the problem is just that the contract is ridiculous points wise it is such a fucking slog its unbearable. like one point per kill???? in arena mode?????? nobody dies to pumpkin bombs on this map ever and surviving 500dmg is unrealistic as half the classes so the secondaries dont help one bit

some of the severe flaws in this map are brought on by TF2 and valve's implementation rather than the map itself

Adding to that, it seems that either the rounds are too dense, the matches are too dense or something, because the contract feels neverending and this is maybe why the map gets so much hate.
I actually like the dispenser ghost mechanic, the aesthetic doesn't feel out of place in TF either, but since people play the map for the contracts you get this feedback :/

About the contracts, I was thinking about how hard it is to fulfill it in 4 wins, unless you are in the perfect conditions to do so.

In 12v12, stomping the other team by yourself without optional missions would net you 12 souls / 12 CP per round for a total of 48 per match, which is hard enough already since there are other 11 players with you (unless you're in a full party)

If you were to get the 6 pumpkin kills which seems a bit difficult to do (otherwise people wouldn't complain so much, both here and in matches), you get 30 CP.
But again, you have 11 other human beings with you, not to mention that people seem to detonate the pumpkins before bad stuff can happen to them so I think that's why it's not that easy to fulfill

The 500 DMG in one life seems easier but there's a reason you get 20 CP and it's because it's hard to do, so unless you tryhard the contract with meds or whatever it's hard to get it

Autobalancing *might* be possible to disable in the middle of the round, but I'm not sure and neither is Valve. The casual mode ecosystem is very closed off and hard to test things in, and the scrambling mechanic is very patched-on-top. I'll look into it when doing the vscript rewrite.

Also, no, this map is the halloween version of Lumberyard. the file is lumberyard_event. The name "trainyard" is still used to this day for the skybox used on Lumberyard. It's just an old indev name for the same map.

The skeleton king exists to drop a rare spell which can turn the tide of battle, but he doesn't add much, so I can remove it.

About the crashing and performance, this map was made before vscript, and at the time was hitting the ceiling on what was possible in a tf2 map. I want to remake this map to use vscript, which will be much more performant and will solve a lot of little bugs here and there.

The contracts are pretty much determined by valve, but I added the "survive 500 health in one life" mission to synergize with the function of the ghosts and to replace the typical "collect a crumpkin" mission since they don't exist on the map. This number is too high, but the reason it's 500 is because I had to re-use a mission for Heavy from jungle inferno. Getting an entirely custom contract is something Valve requires a lot of influencing to do, usually. If you have ideas for what contracts the map should have, let me know.

Were there any attempts to fix the unplayability of this map?
The skeleton king adds no value other than spawncamping a team (and hitting you through the wooden railing, too)
The contract points are way, way too low for how long the rounds / maps last (I'm sure there would be no problem in asking the dude at Valve to change this)
Crashes way too often for a TF2 map
Unrelated to what you guys can change I guess, but sometimes I get autobalanced mid round and I get killed for that which simply is amazing lol.

every year i BEG valve and the tf2 community to give arena a second chance and i didn't get the chance to play this map last year but mad props to you for still dropping an arena reskin after almost a decade of arena being left in the dust

Putting aside extremely hard contract objective, the only interesting part of this map is being able to heal your teammates after death. Main problems of Arena gamemode still exist so does layout of Arena maps.

There are a thousand things I could pick apart for this map being shit and utterly one of the consistently worse maps I have to play to finish my damn contracts, It is literally more strategic to fucking requeue than to stay after your team gets to 2 losses because there is nothing that you could possibly to go get souls on that rotation, like you cant even get a DAMN GARGOLYE AFTER YOU DIE AND ARE LITTERALLY USELESS.

You cant even appreciate the only thing going for it, how nice it looks, because the amount of literal shit it loads puts your ping into a guaranteed +100 every other minute
