this mod should be adopted by the devs in the base game
1. I chose to make a Shadow Plague scenario because I simply couldn't find any others. It felt like Pandemic put a lot of work into all these vampire mechanics and no one's doing anything with them.
2. As long as you don't have any lethality, people only passively die in countries where your cult leader is, not just anywhere. I meant for this to imply your cult leader is constantly embroiled in unsavory shenanigans no matter how harmless his words/followers may seem. Shenanigans like inciting protests that somehow turn violent, or killing hookers, or (of course) pretending he's a vampire, which leads me to:
4. Your cult is a strange and rapidly expanding belief system no matter what you evolve. Even if you have no symptoms at all it's still a cult of personality centered around an unpredictable lunatic. The Templars represent the global establishment suppressing a perceived threat, and this thing has happened historically to real new religious movements that were relatively benign. Falun Gong and early Christianity are two examples.
5. Purple really is a nice color, I ain't gonna fight you. But I think the best reason for choosing the Shadow Plague is the music. It's perfect for the theme I wanted.
1. Cult Leader: It makes a lot of sense for the cult leader to exist and their personal existance kinda adds to the immersion.
2. It's actually really funny: The way the mod plays out currently makes it feel like pockets of evangelical christians grab guns and start indescrimitably killing innocent people which feels like a fucking monty python skit or a scary movie premise.
3. Works well with the darker aspects of a cult: The neurax worm unlike the Shadow Virus can't have vampire lairs which do work well with the cult setting (even though I never used them because that's fucked up)
4. Purple is a nice color: Fight me on this one.
1. People are passively being killed: When the cult is strictly about charity work and relief aid and inner peace it kinda breaks immersion to have your followers passively killing hundreds of people over time.
2. Vampire flavor text: It again breaks immersion when it says that there are a string of murders including the draining of blood, when you know. Chairty work.
3. The tempars: Okay so they just started murdering, charity workers, relief aid workers and yoga schools for no exact reason.
4. The Neurax worm would make a much better fit: With 0 severity there is no automatic world wide freak out like the shadow virus offers.
