Description
Trapping Tuner & Sync Fix
Fixes trap menu desync—what you see matches what’s really in the trap (no more fake “Discard bait”).
Adds optional sandbox tuning so you can make trapping easier or harder.

What this mod does
  • Honest trap UI: The context menu and trap state stay in sync—no ghost bait states.
  • Sandbox tuning: Adjust how quickly “time trapped” builds up, add an optional cap, apply a cold-weather capture gate (uses ambient temperature), and optionally allow catches near the player (anti-wall-exploit still applies).

Sandbox options
All options appear under Trapping Tuner & Sync Fix:
  • Hourly Increase Multiplier — 1 = vanilla, 0 = no accumulation, higher = faster hunger/thirst/death simulation.
  • Limit Maximum Trapped Time — Toggle a cap.
  • Hour Limit for Trapped Animals — Value used by the cap.
  • Cold Capture Modifier — Enable/disable the cold gate.
  • Cold Temperature Threshold (°C) — Below this, catch chance is reduced.
  • Cold Capture Percent — Percentage (0–100) applied under the threshold.
  • Allow Catch Near Player — Let traps catch even with a player nearby.

Make it easier (examples)
  • Set Hourly Increase Multiplier to 0–0.5 so animals don’t “age” as fast in traps.
  • Turn on Limit Maximum Trapped Time and cap low so small animals are more likely to survive.
  • Enable Allow Catch Near Player so traps can trigger while you work nearby.

Make it harder (examples)
  • Raise Hourly Increase Multiplier to 5–10 so waiting usually means dead catches (you can still keep a cap).
  • Enable Cold Capture Modifier, set Threshold to 0°C and Percent to 10% (or 0%) to make winter trapping tough.

FAQ
  • How do I change sandbox options?
    • When starting a new game, choose "Custom Sandbox" in "Playstyle". In the "Sandbox Options" window, the "Trapping Tuner & Sync Fix" tab will appear with the options
    • In existing games, use an editing mod such as "Sandbox Options" and reload the game after the changes.
  • Does this change loot or add items? No—only UI sync and the tuning above.
  • Is it performance-heavy? No—it runs where vanilla already processes traps.
  • Single-player or multiplayer? Works in both; core logic server-side, UI sync client-side (tested only in SP).

Compatibility
  • Game: Build 42 (tested on 42.12.1+).
  • Saves: Safe to add/remove; it only adjusts trap state where vanilla already does.
  • Load order: Place after mods that alter trapping UI/logic so this patch hooks the final versions.

Background
The vanilla bug where trapped “alive hours” carried over between captures was fixed in Build 42.12.1. This mod focuses on UI sync and sandbox tuning beyond that fix.

Thanks for the heads-up! I tested vanilla Build 42.12.1 and can confirm TIS fixed the trap “alive hours” carry-over bug. With this build my mod doesn’t interfere—the reset just duplicates vanilla behavior—so nothing breaks. The optional hour cap still works if you want to limit how high the trapped-time counter can grow.

From 42.12.1 onward, toggling “Auto Reset Capture Time” has no effect (vanilla already does it). I’m planning an update to pivot the mod toward the optional cap and reflect this in the description. It remains safe to keep the mod enabled.
