What Can You Do With Rosaries?
Rosaries are the main currency in Hollow Knight: Silksong. Enemies (including pilgrim bugs) can drop them, and you’ll spend them on maps, a compass, and other essentials from Shakra.

When you die, any unstrung Rosaries are lost. Merchants can string loose beads into a Rosary String so they aren’t lost on death, and you’ll also find Strings as items; break a String later to convert it back into spendable Rosaries.

Rosaries differ from Shell Shards, which are used to craft and repair Tools at benches and aren’t lost on death.

There are reliable ways to stock up on beads. As you explore you’ll see Rosary caches/strings hanging from ceilings; strike them and beads tumble out (red beads are worth 1, gray beads 5).

Walk slowly to collect them so they don’t roll away. Later you can buy the Magnetite Brooch to pull them in automatically. Some strings hang above pits or spikes, so mind your footing.

Another source is the Rosary String and its worn-down cousin, the Frayed Rosary String. These items act like piggy banks: break them in your inventory to convert them into currency (Frayed Rosary String = 30, Rosary String = 60). Buying or finding a string before you head into an unknown area lets you bank beads you can’t afford to lose and cash them out when you’re near a vendor. Frayed strings hold fewer beads but they’re free to find, so don’t waste them.
You’ll also find Rosaries in caches and strings hidden behind breakable walls and tucked into secret rooms. Pharloom rewards curiosity; smashing suspicious walls often reveals shortcuts, bead caches, or even benches.

Rosary caches are another quick shower of currency: hit these clustered bead strings repeatedly and they pour out Rosaries until they shatter (very similar to Geo nodes in the first Hollow Knight game.)

Finally, combat plays a big role. Pilgrim bugs and other foes drop Rosaries. In the early game, head into Mosshome above Bone Bottom and use a simple bench loop: from the bench above The Marrow, clear the nearby pilgrim bugs (they drop 5 each), then loop back to the bench to respawn them. Each cycle yields about 60 Rosaries and takes a couple of minutes, enough to buy Shakra’s early maps and essentials. Just remember to string your beads so you don’t lose them on death.
