Parry, Deflect and Riposte

Description
Parry, Deflect & Riposte

Why just dodge when you can dominate? This mod adds a deep, skill-based parry system that lets you turn any attack into a devastating counter.

Press the Parry key (Right-Click by default) to enter a defensive stance. Time it right to negate damage, reflect projectiles, and unleash powerful ripostes.

⚔️ Turn Defense into Devastation
  • NEW - Experimental Aimable Parry: A dynamic, animated parry for Melee weapons! Instead of a fixed stance, you can aim your weapon directly with the mouse. This is an experimental feature and must be enabled in `Mod Config > Mechanics`. As it's new, please report any bugs you find.

  • Universal Parry System: While designed for melee, you can enable parrying for Magic, Ranged, and Summon weapons in the config.

  • Masterful Counter-Attacks: Reflect projectiles with deadly precision, or parry an enemy's body to charge your next attack with a massive damage bonus.

  • Sustain the Fight: Every successful parry now restores a configurable amount of Mana, rewarding aggressive defense and helping you stay in the action longer.

  • Dynamic Knockback: Successful parries now send you and your enemies flying with satisfying force! Enabled by default, but fully adjustable in `Mod Config > Mechanics`.

  • Full-Sensory Feedback: Crave more impact? Dive into `Mod Config > Juice & Effects` to enable and customize scalable Hitstop, powerful Camera Shake, and brilliant Screen Flashes. (Disabled by default for a clean experience).

  • Hardcore Options: Enable Unparryable Attacks in the config for a true challenge against the game's toughest bosses.

  • Total Customization: Adjust every timing, multiplier, and effect to craft a parry system that's perfectly suited to your playstyle.

🌐 Full Multiplayer Support
Parry alongside your friends! The system is designed for a stable and synchronized online experience. While the core functionality is solid, please report any bugs you encounter in the discussion threads.

⚙️ Compatibility
Designed for high compatibility with major content mods like Calamity Mod.

It now pairs exceptionally well with WeaponOut Lite, thanks to a recent patch that resolves visual conflicts and enhances the feeling of wielding your weapon.

it should be safe. The mod doesn't touch your world file at all, so there's zero risk of world corruption. All the effects are on your character.

I have specific support for Calamity, so that's fine. The others shouldn't conflict since my mod works on a fundamental level. If you want to uninstall it later, just let any of its buffs/debuffs run out before you quit. Your character will be clean.

Let me know if you find any bugs!

because it seems interesting, but I dont want to screw my current world up

I have Stars Above, calamity, calamity overhaul, and wrath of the gods installed. Do you think this would cause bugs with these mods?

I've added the style you described in the latest update. It's now in the config menu as the "Thrust Aim" style.

I also ended up adding that other style I described before, "Standard Aim". Figured I might as well throw it in so people have more choice.

Hope you enjoy them! Let me know what you think.

i feel like maybe the first one so its like youre pointing out the sword instead of the hammer grip, it just sounds more precise but see wat feels more natural

Thanks for the kind words!

Which of these two feels closer to what you mean?

The arm still aims at the mouse (like it does now), but the sword itself also pivots so its tip is always pointing directly at the mouse?
OR
The entire arm-and-sword combo should rotate as one solid piece to point the length of the blade at the mouse?

I think I can add either one as a new aiming style in the config. Let me know what you think would feel better.

hi i love the update but maybe make it so the tip of the sword is pointing at your mouse if that makes sense, love the mod :steamthumbsup:

@pee god

Hey! Sorry for the long silence on this; I've been a bit tied up with another mod project recently.

But I wanted to let you know that your suggestion was the main inspiration for the latest update. I've just released it, and it includes the aimable parry feature you talked about.

Honestly, it's a great idea and was just the push I needed to explore it. It took a bit of work to get the mechanics and animations right, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.

You'll need to enable it in the Mod Config (Mechanics > Enable Aimable Parry) to try it out. I'd love to hear your thoughts and impressions when you get a chance.

It's a new feature, so there might still be some bugs or compatibility issues. Most importantly, if this new aiming mode still doesn't help with the issue you were having where parries sometimes don't register, please let me know. I'll keep working on it. Thanks again for the great suggestion.

i think aiming would help because whenever i try to parry using the player hitbox it just doesnt register as a parry

Hey! I'm not sure I fully understand your question. Are you suggesting a feature where you could aim the parry direction with your mouse, instead of the fixed animation?

To clarify how it works now, the parry is already omnidirectional (360 degrees). It has two hitboxes: one for your weapon and another for your character's body. This means you can block an attack from any direction, even from behind, as long as you time it right. You don't need to aim.
