Better University

Description
Better University introduces a full system of university workshops: dwarves can visit specialized training halls to hone crafts, sciences, and combat skills outside of real production. This gives the fortress an aletrnative way to train newcomers and improve veterans’ proficiency without risk, material cost, or exploiting game mechanics.

BETTER UNIVERSITY MOD — MAJOR OVERHAUL

This is a major rework of the University mod by Nomad.

✔️ Changes & Fixes:
• Workshop names are now shorter and sorted under the U| tag.
• The workshop menu display issue is fully fixed (as long as no other workshop mods are installed).
• Tooltips were added — now it's clear which university you are opening from the farmer's menu.
• Tooltips list all the skills trained in that university.
• Slight graphic improvements.
• A swimming pool was added to the Gym — dwarves can now train swimming!
• All workshops setting exactly at space, where you point. "Some of the placement vs. actual location placed are a little off. For example: the OLD ENGINEERING STATION ends up 1 tile to the right and 2 tiles down from where I place it.) and now is good"

⚖️ Rebalance:
• This is no longer an exploit.
• Skill* training gives 0.6x of normal experience — in exchange for time.
• Attribute* training gives 0.5x.
Old: Skill = 600, Attribute = 300
Default values: Skill = 30, Attribute = 10
Now: Skill = 20, Attribute = 5

(*SKILL_IP This adjusts the amount of skill gained each time the reaction is carried out.)
(*ATTRIBUTE_IP, This adjusts the amount of attribute gain that skill gain from this reaction results in.)

💎 Gem of Knowledge:
• You can use a Gem of Knowledge to instantly boost training.
• Skill gain: 400, Attribute gain: 100
• Can be crafted in the U|Jewelry .
• Crafting cost: 13 gems. (Will be balanced later — goal is to make gems more valuable but not too cheap.)

🔧 Construction Requirements:
• University workshops now require 10 any blocks and 10 cut gems to build!

⚠️ Known Issues
• [FIXED, lets test] Some workshops may still appear in the wrong places— this is a legacy bug from the original mod and is already being fixed.

Upcoming:
• Further testing and balancing planned.

Original mod/cheat (looks dead)

Enjoy your fortress!

Hm, found at least one mod breaking yours, All Animal People Civilized & Playable, sadly. Tried to launch with only these two mods, changed load order. Nothing. That sucks.

Hey, sup from Russia! Writing in english in case there will be something useful for others. So, I had the same problem as a guy on previous page. I don't have any new workshops. But I've installed this mod BEFORE generating new world. As a matter of the fact, I also installed Topples' Quarry, but no new buildings there as well. Do you have any idea what can cause that?

Hey @Krompus i think it will be possible with my 3rd version of University :3

This is awesome, I love the original University mod for decorating my fort, but it feels very OP and cheesy to actually train skills with it. The addition of the swimming pool is very nice, vanilla DF swimming training is a pain in the butt. I haven't installed this mod yet but it looks very promising. Is there any chance that you might consider making this compatible with the "Workshops without floors" mod, or perhaps an alternate version in that style? Thanks!

I figured it out. I think there was an incompatibility with Aeromore Expansion. I took that out of my mod list and now it's working.

Hey Adam, Just make sure you create a new world with this mod enabled!

None of these are showing up in my game...
