DayZ: 28 Years Later is at its core a DayZ sandbox survival experience, but heavily inspired by the latest entry in the 28 Franchise from Danny Boyle and Alex Garland: “28 Years Later.”

Thanks to @Axios.exe's stunning Chernarus Redux map, you’ll explore a land ravaged by 26 years of collapse and wilderness reclamation — or 28 years, for those of us keeping count.

You play as a lifelong survivor, born and raised in the isolated Skalisty Island community. Now, on your 18th birthday, it's time to undertake The Crossing — a sacred island tradition where young men must journey alone to the mainland, retrieve a relic of the NWAF, and return to prove their strength and growth.

This is a lightly narrative-driven sandbox, offering total freedom: complete your rite and return... or stay, explore, and survive for as long as you dare.

Chernarus has changed — and so have its threats.

While infected mostly remain the same, they do show signs of adaptation, tactics such as a silent charge and unpredictable sprint path's have been observed, along with the return of very basic motor functions such as opening door's, all likely formed over years of hunting humans. A second distinct type are known as Bolters, these guys have learned to conserve energy by traversing the land in a slow crawl, eating worms and grubs, until they spot a target, then they use there pent up energy to charge. The pressing matter however, a rare new strain has emerged: the Alpha Infected — faster, smarter, and far more dangerous. In these rare cases, the prion pathogen metabolizes like a growth hormone, creating apex predators among the hordes. Alphas tend to lead packs, and will dynamically spawn within the player's area every 30–45 minutes to keep tension high.

DayZ: 28 Years Later builds upon the foundational lore established by Dean Hall, creator of the original DayZ mod. According to Hall’s timeline, the outbreak began on March 12, 2013, triggered by a prion-based disease. The infection proved catastrophic: 86% of those infected died, while the remaining 14% survived in a chronic state, stripped of higher brain function and consumed by relentless aggression.

These infected are no longer truly human — unable to communicate, incapable of reason, and driven solely by a violent, predatory instinct.

While Hall envisioned a global pandemic, this scenario diverges by imagining a world where the outbreak was successfully contained within Chernarus. In this version of events, NATO intervened swiftly, locking down the region behind a permanent militarized blockade. For nearly three decades, the country has remained sealed off from the outside world — isolated, decaying, and evolving...

🌿 Key Features:

Unique Infected types & behavior's:

-The Adapted: Infected individuals who have been infected for a long period of time, seemingly developing tactics or basic motor function from years of trial and error in chasing survivor's, spotting and tracking survivors now also comes easier to them

-Bolter's (This one's just a retcon as RVG made it): Infected who specifically adapted to conserve energy, crawling low to the ground, eating grubs and worms until they spot a target, in which they bolt for it

-Alpha's: A rare type that serves as a pack leader, in this Infected the prion disease has evolved to double as something akin to a steroid or growth hormone, causing a Faster, Stronger, and Smarter infected.

Solo we would like to play your idea longer but the zombie mod you use its not a good one its too pvp i couldn't Research something bc zombies we're opening doors while ammo was very low

hello I just saw your modpack, I downloaded it, I thought tomorrow in the future we will be able to barricade the buildings:)

@kevinhale443 - Glad to hear you survived your rite of passage! At the moment, there really is nothing else mission wise for you, that was the game (It's really just meant to be Dayz, but inspired by 28 years, the little story goal was mostly just meant to immerse you in the role of a second or third generation survivor and highlight the evolution of a collapsed society) i left free roam open to players afterwards for anyone who wanted to role-play the scavenger role, bring whatever you wanted back to the island, or just continue the character in general until death. - If i were to expand on this scenario, what would you like to see? Expanded story line? More world building? or just missions in general such as fetch me this and kill me that for something to do.

How is this supposed to end? come back, attended meeting and been made a scavenger and nothing, no end mission, nothing.
