  • Full Campaign + More
    All 10 original missions return, revamped and expanded, along with the Sniper Training level. Additional new missions are included, and the entire campaign is playable in optional Pilot Mode. Dynamic, persistent NPCs also accompany you during key operations.

  • All Modes Revived
    Core modes have been brought back with improvements — and more maps can be added post-release.

    • Offline Instant Action Arcade Mode: 7 Maps

    • Online Coop Arcade Mode: 7 Maps

    Pilot Mode now goes far beyond its original N64 implementation. With a simple cheat code toggle, you can enable or disable it at any time. When active, Pilot Mode automates most gameplay tasks:
    • Your Recycler auto-rebuilds production units
    • The Constructor builds base structures and defenses
    • Ammo and repair pods are deployed automatically
    • Friendly AI rescues you if stranded
    • Auto-counterattacks target enemy bases
    • Howitzers push the frontline
    • APCs auto-deploy
    • A turret grid protects your base
    • You’re given combat escorts

    It even adapts to escort-only missions without a base by managing AI support or rescue units when needed.

    Pilot Mode won’t win the mission for you but it can hold its own and offers a new way to play. If it ever gets in the way, just toggle it off and regain full control.

  • Dynamic Music System
    Enjoy the original Rise of the Black Dogs soundtrack shuffled during missions. Easily skip tracks, pause playback, or switch between Arcade-only tracks or the full OST.

  • Custom Cobra Tank
    Pilot a unique, player-specific Cobra tank inspired by the N64 box art with progressive upgrades and exclusive weapons throughout the campaign.

  • Visual and Audio Overhauls
    Enhanced skyboxes, dynamic weather, a new Mars environment, redesigned HUD, original N64 sound effects, fully voiced characters, new models, post-mission cutscenes, uniquely painted Black Dog faction for this mod (turn off any black dog skin mods you may have on to see them) and more.

  • Reimagined Content
    The story and characters have been lightly reinterpreted to fit a modern take — while preserving the overall flow and feel of the original campaign. Each standard mission has a hidden collectible in the level that ties back to the original N64 game.

Installation & Usage Instructions

To Install and Access This Content:
  • Subscribe on the Workshop
  • On game main menu, navigate to Single Player > Custom Campaign. Click on the mod name, and you will then be able to launch it.
  • Additional content can be found under the relevant menus with the proper prefixing. For example: Single Player > Instant Action: "ROTBD: Arcade 01"

Disclaimer:
This mod is not affiliated with the Heracles Brigade Rise of the Black Dogs Decompilation Project. It is an entirely independent project, built from scratch over roughly 2 months without any involvement or consultation from that team. This is my own reimagined take on the campaign, designed to provide a quality experience in Battlezone 98 Redux.

Pilot Mode is fully functional but considered experimental. Mission balance and scripting are tuned for standard commander playthroughs.

Large file size is due to high resolution sky cubemaps, custom models, cutscene video files, .WAV format soundtrack (only format BZ is capable of using), and some redone textures.

@jmw2001, I did a quick test on the workshop version but I'm not able to recreate this bug. Are you skipping the cutscene or letting it play? The only other thing I can think is the game might be running into a rendering bug when switching to the camera, often seen when using the DX11 renderer or non-English localization.

I've encountered an issue on Mission 3. The intro cutscene plays and shows the Mammoth. However after the cutscene ends, the camera stays looking at the Mammoth instead of switching to the player's view.

@Wideload, I've pushed an update that addresses all these bugs. Check Steam Change Notes for further details. I was not able to reproduce the APC thing - if it happens consistently please let me know and as many details as possible of what was happening.

Pilot mode was on. They turned red and started shooting at me. I originally though the same but they were actively targeting me. Even said Black Dogs on their info tab.

I've never seen that, very odd. Pilot mode on? Were they trying to shoot past you at a nearby enemy?

Also if its proving too difficult, make sure to adjust the in game difficulty if needed.

I'll upload a fix so that it builds power/GT pairs instead of all of one or the other. I thought I had fixed the Constructor building far away from the base, but to be sure, only enable pilot mode once the Recycler has deployed in that mission, then don't disable it and that should not happen. My fix will also resolve this issue. Hopefully I will get it uploaded tonight.

Is there anyway to stop the constructor building towers without power? Its making the 3rd level unplayable for me at least. The attacks are so frequent and with the howitzers bombing you, its impossible to actually build any decent defences with Pilot more on or off. As all pilot mode is doing for me currently is screwing me royally with building useless crap and when the constructor does build gun towers they are either right on the edge of the map like 1000m away or inside the base without power.
