[Insect Races] A Dance of Six Legs

Description
(Now with new sprites!)
(Please rate this mod if you enjoy it!)

Description

A Dance of Six Legs adds in Insectoid races and civilizations to your worlds, populating it with more raiders, traders and tree-dwelling hippies! As of now, the mod adds in two new civilizations and one new race; The Termidors – termite-men who dwell in the savannah and the shrublands, fighting off their age-old rivals, the evil, bloodthirsty Antmen. Future updates will include Jumping-spider tribes with no access to metal, crab men who fixate on bone, and bee people who make their own surplus of honey!

The Termidors

  • Caste-organized Termite men.
  • Able to produce weapons from wood, to protect the colony in resource-poor areas.
  • Short lifespans are balanced by egg-laying females; Rather than slowly wait thirteen years to get a useful next
    generation, have your next generation be born ready for lifelong service!
  • Termites never sleep! Your population will work nigh-continuously for you. A boon to desert-embarks where you don't want to waste all your precious wood on beds just so your dwarves can be comfy.
  • Depopulate swathes of forests and turn meagre wood into large quantities of stone-like mulch with which to build structures and goods! Rub it in an elf's face!

The Antmen

  • (As of current, identical to the Termidors and non-playable! Very evil!)

    Special thanks to Beep’s Snailing Race, which served as a handy template for this mod! I highly recommend you download it and enable it, to add more invertebrate buddies to your world :D

    [Important]
    -The insect races lay eggs instead of giving birth. In order for the eggs to hatch, they first need to be left undisturbed in an egg box. If they are moved to a stockpile, they won't be able to hatch (as far as I am aware). Secondly, they need to be fertilized by a male who has married the egg-layer (according to the old DF wiki, anyway)

Really neat idea, sadly doesn't seem to work anymore. Throws an exception on data loading.

After some additional testing, adding [CHILD:0] to the TERM_RACE raw, then forcing an update by manually changing the mod version, they now grow up when they turn 1, fixing the problem. I don't believe it will be possible to have an egg hatch into an adult, but i'm no expert.

And make sure you pay attention to your females, and don't put them in your military, unless you want to collapse your population. Getting your termidors to reproduce is surprisingly difficult since they haven't got much time to form bonds, and get married. Can we make them hornier? haha

Are these going to be like the Wasps of Masterwork DF? PLEASE make it so

This mod still works great, HOWEVER
There's a small problem with the RAW for the termidor race, it's missing a CHILD tag
what this means, is that children never grow up. They hatch into children, and then live for 5-8 years without growing up.

Regardless, thanks for the amazing mod, this is fun!

any updates on this mod since dfhack has a steam version now?

I am guessing makng ants unplayable was the update to remove the bugs mentioned in January.

Getting Caste based Insect factions to work is interesting.
Having multiplte females be likely does make it easier than trying to get a queen system to work.

Although, having queens be rare can work if you have a way to guarantee the player starts with one.

I recommend you not use this mod until it's updated, I'm getting a lot of crashes and the error log shows a lot of things from the mod:

```
Tile page token not recognized: ANT_BODY_SPECIAL
Tile page token not recognized: ANT_HAIR_STRAIGHT
Tile page token not recognized: ANT_HAIR_CURLY
```
