Galaxy in Conflict [v3.2.5 - Cold April]

Description
GIC is slated to be updated in the coming months. It is currently recommended to avoid this mod until the v4.0 release as any content present in this current version is likely to change and be fundamentally different on a core level.

GiC pits you against the environment in a frenetic mix of high-intensity ranged and melee combat. Fight with brutal methodical and mundane tactics, or blitz through with high-speed magic and melee!

From The Ashes, You Shall Rise
Fight your way through the madness, where every mundane man, youkai, and otherworldly entity hates each other as much as they hate you. Where the rules are molded at a moment's notice and death comes quick for all - especially for those unable or unwilling to adapt.

Highly Modifiable Evolved Weapons System
Employ an arsenal of lethal ballistic weaponry from the World Wars to the Cold War which can end a life in a mere couple of shots, as well as supporting an on-the-fly attachments system for various parts which can be scavenged or bought, giving your guns an edge on the battlefield. Need protection? Replace your sight with a gun shield. Need a support tool? Equip a corrosive grenade launcher. Want to shoot ice bullets? Put on an elemental barrel. You're not limited by just the gun itself.

Deliberate Melee System
Deliver close-ranged strikes with the vast armory of slow, but deliberate melee weapons inspired by the likes of souls titles, such as axes, halberds, and buckler shields. Bring the fight to the enemy in close-quarters with your light attacks, and dedicated heavy attacks.

Fight your way as you parry and counter-attack your foes with an integrated and unique mixture of ranged and melee weapons.

Unique Trinkets System
Equip trinkets to give yourself the top edge on the battlefield. Favor aggression? Equip a trinket that restores your health on a kill. Need more defense? Equip a hardlight shield generator to tank any hit for you every few seconds. Need allies? Equip one of the myriad of defensive drones and spirits to take down your foes for you. Want something gimmicky? Take damage and receive DMG RES for the next 5 seconds, but take +15% DMG after that expires. GIC's trinkets range from the simple to the absurd, and it's up to you to combine them.

Worlds Asunder
Inspired by the likes of Remnant: From the Ashes, Risk of Rain, Touhou, and 2d Shooters, GIC aims to combine them all into a cohesive package that encourages both melee and gunplay in a handcrafted high-intensity experience.

New trinkets, new weapons, new locales, hand-crafted mission-like dungeons, new armors, ruthless ranged AI, boss-like hand-crafted melee enemies, new consumables, new bosses, and much more await players who live for the thrill, the rush of life and death.

Where worlds collide, the magical and the mundane meet. Where the magical and the mundane meet, a new alliance is born.

Loot, Live, Last
Scavenge from the various locations to augment your survival, from stockpiles of food to weapons and medical supplies. Every place has its purpose, and knowing what's to be expected will keep you alive. Ballistic firearms require physical ammunition, but a quick search of the area can yield all manner of magical and mundane items to help one in their fight against whoever stands before them.

Dodge, Deflect, Die
The lethal nature of both ranged and melee combat means death is always around the corner for the inattentive, and its effects are best avoided, rather than simply absorbed. Utilize extensive cover and traverse the vast hand-crafted dungeons of GiC; or go full medieval and take up arms through the Perfect-Parry system that rewards timing with the complete avoidance of damage, no matter it be a bullet, rocket, or greatsword. Whatever options there may be: redirect the force.

All's fair in Love and War
There is no tier-gating or planet-scaling. All of GiC's content falls under Tier 1 and remains consistent regardless of where it appears. The only changes in difficulty are those that directly correlate to the unique challenges present within a planet. The lethal ballistic weaponry in GiC doesn't scale with player attack-power, and ignores standard defense values of armor on account of its mundane nature. Similarly, individual enemies die fast but can apply that same lethality to unprepared players as well. Greater warriors now populating the galaxy tend to fight within their own rules, however...

I have a little less faith every time I say "one more month", the thing I've been saying for nearly a year now.
sorry for this question that you probably had answered a dozens of times but
when we could wait 4.0

all g aye

Oh that's fine. I'm pretty flexible about species restrictions and all that if there's a good reason for it, and since it looks like you're going for a strong lore reason to do things the way you are, I'm totally okay with it. I'm a lore nerd, I ain't complainin'! ;p

Then GIC might actually give you that magic run. It's something we've wanted to do for a while but it's been tough actually integrating it with all the systems so that it's fluid and cohesive with everything else (among all the other staggering revisions and overhauls).

4.0 introduces the Occultist archetype who is the only "class" capable of utilising the new magic system beyond a novelty. He's the only one that benefits from and can sustain it.

As far as our playthrough tests go, pure magic runs are chalking up to potentially scaling better than "simple" firearm or melee runs, but that's a given since they're meant to be the advanced class. They're working with an overheat mechanic and stress system.

Just a warning though: GIC's Veteran and Duellist archetypes are either Human or Wolf-Tengu cosmetic variety, with the Occultist *only* being human. Figured you might want to know, since a lot of people out there have an aversion to humans and it might be a total turn-off.

@Tengu_Civitas Fair enough! In all my years playing I've never quite been able to figure out a solo viable 'magic' exclusive playthrough, and the obvious character art references made me wonder about it here. Still excited to try the mod out after release! Thanks for answering. ^.^
Seems like this would be better suited to a Lastree, all things considered... which is fine by me, given they're one of my favourite Starbound species.

GIC is separate to Starbound canon. I presume you're mostly asking about the narrative implications rather than mechanical.

While magic is an integral part of GIC, it is its own story with its own set of rules.

Magic is mostly utilized by the Gensokyans (see the Gensokyo 1999 teaser trailer released about a week ago), using field guns and mortars as catalysts. Outside of this fantasy world, it's generally not believed to exist at all and doesn't affect the affairs of most people. It's not a known factor in GIC.

Newbie to GiC here. While I'm waiting for that 4.0 to drop to try this out, I have to ask: how does 'magic' fit into the equation here? One would expect artillery mages to be part of the assault (or at least something like that), given that magic, such as it is, is a known factor in the Starbound universe.

This is a problem with Carlucci's Inventory as it fails to actually implement a "general" category for the player's backpack. Normally in vanilla (and many other inventory mods) the first tab is assigned as the "general" category where "unidentified" items are placed. This means any mod that uses custom categories (such as GIC) will be indirectly incompatible with Carlucci's (and any other that fail to implement this vanilla system).

Your only fix is to uninstall Carlucci's and create a new character, as they are character-specific. BK3k's inventory series has versions in high slot numbers if that's what you're ultimately seeking.

Otherwise, there is nothing we can do.
