Improved AI Research
*Supported game version: 1.16.9

This is my personal mod that mostly tweaks the AI behavior and makes it behave more historical and play a bit better (or less stupid at least). It improves things like what AIs research and produce, alters their unit templates, makes the AI produce more tanks and other historical equipment (heavy tanks, motorized divs., etc.), or changes their default Focus Tree paths. It also adds a lot of scripts for some common situations so the AI can handle them better (like stopping the various AI suicidal behaviors, building synth refineries when out of rubber, switching production when losing too many convoys etc...). Lastly it adds many historical tank/plane presets and fixes some bugs in the UI (wrong Airplane icons for example).

This mod is generally compatible with other mods that don't modify vanilla tech tree.
NOT Ironman Compatible. Should not be combined with other AI mods, like Expert AI.

General Changes:
- various improvements for Historical Focus On – AIs will declare wars and join factions at more historically accurate dates, take historical focuses and decisions when they should etc
- improved the 'Phoney War' – lasts longer, and AIs won't bomb each other during this time
- improved the historical wars in Iraq/Iran to be more dynamic and sensible
- fixed many cases of AI causing a WW3 in historical games by randomly taking a wrong wargoal focus
- better PP spending priorities
- improved AI's use of garrison laws
- AIs will prioritize research and use techs and designs they used historically
- many tweaks to AI equipment production, construction, and some AI unit templates
- major AIs will hire XP advisors and construct research facilites, including nuclear
- added many historical aircraft and tank presets, or fixed existing ones to be more accurate (AI uses them)
- fixed the Aircraft designer often assigning wrong default icons/models for many countries (including AI)
- more minor countries with a generic focus tree will follow a historical plan and not just do random things

Germany
- AI will produce about double amount of tanks and some heavy tanks too
- added many scripts for better AI behavior in both historical and unhistorical games
- will not create RK out of its own puppets/friendly countries
- RK puppets will stop trying to 'help' by raising divisions, instead of garrisoning their own states
- made AI more dynamic during the war with USSR – will halt attacks if it gets stuck, resupply, attack again (same with Soviet AI)
- if AI defeats USSR it will change strategy accordingly and focus on navy more
- AI will actually protect its capitol
- AI more careful with attacks when fighting in hilly areas like Greece, or Italy


USSR
- AI will produce cheap infantry-only divisions if it's losing a war
- will defend its important cities more
- AI will not waste all PP on colorful propaganda posters and resource prospecting
- should produce a lot more tanks, won't switch factories so much and lose efficiency
- if it loses its airforce it will reinforce a bit first, before engaging with Germany again
- AI taught what Anti-soviet pact means and that WW2 in 1938 versus everyone else is a bad idea
- completely replaced the generic aircraft presets with historical designs in the aircraft designer

USA
- USA focuses more on Air/Naval techs
- will hire a PP advisor early so it's not constantly out of PP
- will research & build synthetic refineries, if Indochina rubber sources are threatened
- will now use the prospecting decisions and get more resources
- will build a larger Air Force, including a lot of strategic bombers and long range heavy fighters
- fixed AI sometimes not producing any CV aircraft at all

Japan
- AI will switch aircraft and tank production sooner to not produce outdated designs
- will use tanks more, and train bicycle divisions
- fixed AI sometimes not producing any CV aircraft at all
- AI will no longer be so susceptible to economical collapse due to lack of convoys from raiding
- AI will station more troops in its homeland so it's not such an easy target for naval invasion

The United Kingdom
- will use the exiled government decisions much more effectively
- will defend Gibraltar and Malta better
- will build some Fuel silos to not constantly run out of fuel (offsets the 'AI lockdown' if it gets raided by subs too much)
- allied AIs will try to support naval invasions into France with their air forces more
- they will also try to perform offensive missions there and not just sit idly at the UK air bases

France
- AI historical focus changed to be more in line with actual history
- will think twice before declaring any war if it still has 'disjointed government' idea
- will not just abandon its colonies (No Garrison) if it capitulates and let the resitance destroy everything

Other changes
- Turkey AI will stop joining allies automatically (can now choose either faction depending on who's winning, or remain neutral)
- Denmark declaring independence will no longer cause a war between Japan and Soviet Union
- Poland, Belgium & Czechoslovakia - will prepare for the war better
- Italy and UK will build more screens and cruisers to replace losses
- Canada & Australia will build more ships, altered historical focus path
- fixed Spain being unable to re-core their states due to low compliance
- fixed Nationalist Spain joining factions (Japan) after Germany is defeated
- Chinese warlords and Japanese puppets will now hire army advisors and update templates properly
- AIs will pick certain appropriate Spirits in historical mode
- major AIs in faction will stop closing economy for no reason
- AIs should care more about low stability and will always try to improve it above 50%
- AI should use War Bonds and war support decisions more
- AI should not ignore army mutinies/other crises if the first attempt to solve it fails
- minor nations won't be repeatedly seizing civilian trains for no reason
- Nationalist Spain & Vichy France - will send volunteers to Germany against the Soviet Union
- fixed UK&France re-guaranteering Czechoslovakia after Munich Conference
- fixed many AI countries not using correct unit namelists
- And many more AI fixes and tweaks (can't list them all)

Is it possible to make it compatible with RT56 mod?

Yes it is, AI considers it superior to any fighter, wheter that's true or not. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to reduce or at least regulate their production... Since it's a GoT feature handled separately from normal aircraft designs where I can setup what is 'good' and what is not. Once the AI researches motherships (which is very random), they'll switch to them.

Is it normal for the AI to be obsessed with Mothership Aircrafts? They put most of their factories into producing those instead of regular aircraft such as Fighters. I don't know if Mothership Aircrafts are THAT good, but i don't think they can beat regular Fighters in Air Superiority

Light tanks? Like after ww2? That shouldn't be possible, I've made the AI actually stop light tank production altogether once they get to T-34. I hope it's not some negative value overflow xD

Comment below made a good point. Saw that happening on a game of mine as well, the Soviets had like 300 factories on light tanks

A bug where Sov would produce a lot of light tanks in the later years instead of medium or modern tanks.
