SUBJ: AFTER ACTION REPORT TARAWA LFG 005
CO COMMENTS: WHILE ON PATROL TARAWA ENCOUNTERED SUSPECTED PIRATE VESSEL. NO IFF RESPONSE AND NO COMMUNICATION FROM UNKNOWN CONTACT DESIGNATED SIERRA 007 IN ATTACHED LOG FILE. TARAWA CLOSED FOR VISUAL CONTACT AND INSPECTION AND WAS AGGRESSIVELY ATTACKED BY TWENTY DRONE SHIPS LAUNCHED FROM CONTACT. TARAWA BEGAN COMBAT MANUEVERS ALLOWING FOR TURRET WEAPONS TO ENGAGE INBOUND TARGETS. DRONES WERE OVERWHELMING DEFENSES. TARAWA WAS ABLE TO CLOSE DISTANCE TO MOTHERSHIP AND LAUNCHED MK IV TORPEDO. TORPEDO DECIMATED UNKNOWN CONTACT AND CAUSED SEVERAL SECONDARY EXPLOSIONS. DRONES WERE MOMENTARILY INNEFECTIVE AND BEGAN FALLING TO DEFENSIVE BATTERIES. AFTER A FEW MOMENTS UNKOWN SHIP, MOTHER SHIP, JUMPED AWAY AND ALL CONTACT WAS LOST. SEVERAL OF THE DRONES LATER SELF DESTRUCTED.

BILL IF YOU ARE READING THIS TARAWA WAS ALMOST LOST. BRASS TOLD US THAT IT WOULD BE A DECADE OR TWO BEFORE THE TECHNOLOGY WOULD CATCH UP. THEY WERE WRONG! IT IS HERE. I KNOW THAT YOU ARE ON THE OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE FOR THE UPCOMING FLEET UPGRADES THIS SCENARIO MUST BE ON OF THEM.

Shortly after that meeting plans were drawn up for the LIGHT FRIGATE ASSAULT. Fleet doctrine is that capital ships serve in the roll of area denial and siege weaponry. LFA does not. With the most turrets per class she has been more than able to hold her ground when on both the defensive and offensive. Her main battery of six rocket launchers carry more than enough power to deliver a knock out blow.

LFA ships are also outfitted with enough cryo storage for a squad of marines should a ship or station require imediate pacification.

Interesting note although the commanders selected for LFA tours have to participate in the regular psycological assesments they are not required to pass.
