Personal Waypoints [Discontinued]

Description
I am no longer playing Ark and no longer maintaining this mod until further notice.

I am pretty busy real life and have no desire to work in the dev kit to try to fix this mod at this time. If you wish to try to fix it, please message me and I can share the source code.

You are free to keep using the mod as is.

I will not be making the code open source in the event I do decide in the future to return to working on it.

CLEAN AND STACKABLE!
Mod ID: 1493938516

Features

  1. Add waypoints with the name and color of your choosing. Don't like it, edit it later.
  2. Delete any waypoint from your list you don't need anymore.
  3. Set your own keybindings (limited keys) for easy access. Saves on a personal player basis.
  4. Server ini options to change the default keybindings for your server.
  5. Track your tribe mates easily to see where everyone is while playing. No more guessing using the map.
  6. Tag any dino or non-tribe player with a waypoint that follows them as they move.
  7. Died? No worries, a waypoint is automatically added at your deathpoint so you can get back to your bag faster.
  8. Waypoints are saved on the server so they are there even if you wipe your game on your computer.
  9. Don't want all those names across your screen? No problem, they can be toggled off/on individually or all at once.

Defaults
The server owner can change these. If it doesn't work, contact them for the defaults.

  • F1 opens the main UI.
  • F2 will toggle all waypoints on or off.
  • F3 will set a waypoint on the dino/player you are looking at. Works while riding or using an item like a spyglass.
  • Holding H will show your keybinds over the waypoints icon in case you forget them.

Thank you to everyone who voted! I ended up 42 out of 61 mods and was happy to get that far. Woohoo!

Notes

  • The system does take a bit to initialize when you connect or respawn. Give it up to 20 seconds before you try to do anything.
  • There is a limit on waypoints that you can have per server. Adding deathpoints and shared waypoints do not check for the limit when adding, but are counted as part of the limit. The default is 30, but can be changed up to 100 by the server owner in the ini config.
  • If a tagged non-tribe player or any dino disconnects, dies where their body is destroyed, or uses the obelisk to upload, any waypoints tagged on them will automatically be deleted.
  • Tribe members have an icon next to their waypoint name that is green if they are online, red if they are dead (but haven't respawned and haven't been eaten), and grey if they are offline. Unlike the dinos and tagged players, this waypoint is persistent. It will, however, turn itself invisible if the tribe member is eaten and hasn't respawned, or uploads at the obelisk. If it turns itself off and they come back on, turning them visible again should initiate a new check to find their character to follow again.
  • Shared waypoints are automatically added to the selected tribe member's lists if they do not already have the waypoint. No notification of the share is made to either party.
  • Deathpoints get added automatically on death and must be manually deleted when you no longer need them.
  • In singleplayer, all tagged dinos will only stay on the screen if you are in render range or have turned off hibernation in the settings. With hibernation on, the dino tracking is lost when out of render range and the waypoint is deleted.
  • This mod was designed with UI scaling at 100%. If you move the slider in your settings to the left (smaller), it will move the waypoints off the point with it being a greater discrepancy the father your push it left. It is recommended not to take it smaller than 75%. (Known issue with 4k usage and scaling as well that is being looked into.)

I want to thank the great modders over on the modding Discord for their help in answering my questions. A very big thank you to Lethal (check out his Dino Storage mod!) for putting up with my sometimes endless questions and frustration.

A really big thank you goes out to the Phlinger Phoo Discord[discord.gg] and all the members there who supported me through making this mod. It was that community that got me back into playing Ark and inspired me to start modding. Don't know who Phlinger Phoo is? Check out his youtube channel.

Hey all, I turned tracking comments off on this mod on purpose as I was dealing with health issues and work in real life. I accepted two requests to people who wanted the code and gave it to them over the past 3 years. I don't think they ever did anything with it. As I said, I am not posting it on github or anything in case I wanted to come back to it.

I may still pick this back up should I decide to ever return to Ark. I still have all the original code and I know it has since been badly broken, which was why I marked it discontinued. I am also still in the Ark Modding Community Discord under the same name, so finding me there to message me on Discord if you want the code was and is the way to go.

Since other people in here wanted to re-make this mod, with it being old and depreciated, I have decided to re-make it. Anyone can go find it on my steam workshop since I feel like posting the link directly is a bit impolite.

Author has ignored everyone....

Please just make this open source so the community can fix this. Not being able to track tribemates is the worst.

Not sure if this helps but here is their profile link.

However though their most recent activity on steam is back in April of 2020 so good luck on the quest to fix and continue the mod @Mindless2831

I would like to fix this mod, I want to take you up on your offer if you are still willing. This is one of the single most important mods on many people's servers.

Would be super nice if they would let someone fix tribe tracking. It is the main reason I added the mod.

Mod also captures [LShift+F1] as well as [F1]

When [lShift+F1] is pressed to trigger the main menu of a certain other mod, this mod captures the combo keypress and interprets it as if just [F1] was pressed, locking the player out of the other mod's menu and forcing this mod's main menu to open against wishes. That same other mod also uses [LShift] with [F2] and [F3], but those in fact work as expected, allowing the separate features of both mods to be activated.

I am weeks new to Ark. While I know there are other games whose fundamental keyboard handling is just that primitive, I've seen no evidence of that in this game. Then there's the confirmation from one combo key being intercepted but NOT two others. I conclude from this that it's a flaw in this mod's scripting.

The only thing that just stopped working recently is the fact that you can't see your tribe mates, so you can't share waypoints and such. I am hoping the F3 key will allow me to at least tag a tribemate temporarily and then that'll be ok until the dev decides to update this. I would love to update this for you if you would like, as I have extensive modding experience. Please let me know if your are still interested in allowing someone to do so.
