Great Heroes

Description
The premise of this mod is to change Great Generals in a way that makes them more interesting to use and valuable.

The Great Generals are now called Heroes, and they'll behave like direct combat units, with a base strength comparable to the standard units of the current Era they're in, plus some bonuses and the potential to gather plenty of promotions due to an increased experience gain rate.

What changed:

- Great Generals are now called Heroes;
- Heroes are melee combat mounted units;
- Heroes have a combat strength that increases dynamically according to the Era;
- Moves increased to 3;
- Heroes can't stack with combat units;
- Heroes get more experience than usual, for attacks;
- Heroes start with Shock I and Drill I promotions;
- The AI will now treat them as melee offensive units.

What did NOT change from the base game:

- Spawn mechanics. If other mods change them, they will still work;
- Great General names;
- Civopedia articles and tooltips;
- The ability to spend them to build a Citadel;
- Great General's base "Leadership" promotion is present as usual.

I'm flagging this as Alpha because there are still things I'd like to add and I still haven't tested it over a whole game. I'm publishing it as it is because I think it's playable and I could use help with testing and balancing.

Considering this was done in 2012 I'll assume this is as finished as it will ever get

Which is a shame because I could absolutely see this expanded to the admirals.

Yes. Make the Khan a ranged great hero with melee capacity, kind of like what Ships do. Frigates attack at range but if attacked by a prifateer they can defend adiquately. If it doesn't already work for the Khan it definitely should.

Could heroes get some animations or maybe get re-textured to look like horsemen/knght/calvalry/tank depending on era? That way the unit would feel more like a hero and less like a guy who sits on a horse and waits for his enemies to magically disappear.

Since they no longer stack with other units it would be nice to give them an ability like a range attack ability that only works vs cities or maybe 10% more flanking bonus.
