You can find tales about XCOM's sci-fi, turn-based, and strategy genre's online. Many have written extensive articles about it.

What you may not know is that this game also does a great job of informing you just how unlucky you can be even if you have a 99% chance of making the shot.

I was a D-class once a upon a time. I had escaped my cell along my fellow D-bois. We had found a card that a careless scientist had left behind in the bathroom. We made our way to SCP-914, and was in the process of upgrading our sole keycard, when we realized that we didn't close the blast door behind us.

And that SCP-173 and SCP-939 were staring at us from the hallway.

Some of us ran, some of us tried to fight, I just stood in the corner and cried. There was screaming and cries of pain everywhere as 173 tore through us like concrete through flesh. After a minute of staring into my corner, a turned around and saw 173 looming over me like a Pillar of Death. I begged for my life, and Peanut backed away and pointed towards the lone O5 keycard that was in someone's cold, dead, hand. I wordlessly picked it up and started following my new Masters.

We made our way through the facility. I saw Peanut put down many D-class and Guard alike. We had made it to Gate B when I heard the MTF come down the elevator. Hoping to be spared from death, I ran back out towards the hallway and hid. Gunfire and explosions rained from the Gate room, and in the end Peanut was dead and 939 was hurt. I sneaked my way to the elevator and quietly made my exit. As soon as I reached the surface I ran for my life, hoping to put the facility and it's horrors behind me forever.
