Editing after there have been a few updates to the game:

Would seem like most major bugs have been fixed, maybe one or two still scraping by, but they're known.

Achievements all seem to be fixed which is finally fantastic.

Bot behavior has been improved a bunch. Maybe some work left to be done but it's in progress and already remarkably improved from launch.

All in all, can definitely recommend this in good faith now.

Game will be awesome when they get around to fixing all the bugs.

Editing to add some additional info since finishing the new achievements:

I'm going to keep my review as not recommended for the main reason of the new map removes most of the variety that you found in the previous three maps. The previous three maps were awesome, you could use whatever build you wanted and have no issue. With the new map, you are forced into the same build over and over again. You grab the same couple defensive upgrades in the first roughly 6 minutes to survive. Once you make it past the first 10 minutes, you've beefed up enough to not worry so much. But then the last 20 minutes just become you grabbing the same few weapons, usually a fireball or icicle, maybe you spice it up and grab the bow once in a while. Generally speaking, you don't deviate from those three, even among people in the discord saying they're must takes. Can you take other weapons? Sure, but good luck killing the boss in a timely manner. I DO NOT think the boss should die in 2 seconds, and there are builds that can take him down in 10 or less. But those are usually specialty builds based off specific heritages that are known to be incredibly strong.

Overall, I think my original statement below still stands. We traded the variety and fun for perceived difficulty. Sure, you can run the builds that are broken and busted, and that's fine and dandy. But if you want to complete the achievements as a challenge to go for, prepare to run the same build for almost all of them. It just makes it less fun, in my opinion. In no way do I think this game is bad, or that the developer is wrong for creating his vision. But in my opinion, this vision is un-fun for what nomad survivor is.

Original Review:

Traded fun for perceived difficulty through RNG to get a cookie cutter build every single time. Lost it's luster for me, sadly.

Can't recommend this on any good faith. The gameplay itself is tons of fun. I'm having a blast, even solo sometimes. But the fact of the matter is this is a multiplayer game. It's best when you play with others, even if they're strangers. There's no one playing this besides me basically. Anyone who's playing is already way past the early game, and grinding out power level for the early game has no bearing or reward past progressing a mission or two before grinding out more missions. End game grind is fine, you're working towards optimal equipment. To progress the story and open up the end-game I shouldn't have to incessantly farm powerlevel between each story mission. That's awful design.

If you're a die hard fan like me, you wanted this to be good. The live service doesn't phase me honestly, but they're not making it work well. Day 1 maintenance for like 3 hours right after launch didn't help either.

The art style is also super jarring. For cutscenes it's fine. But for gameplay you get weird shading and lighting issues.

All in all, I want to love this game, I really do, but there's too many glaring problems, mainly in player base. It's impossible to find a group for the third area of the story, I've been searching for over an hour to find someone, can't even get one partner.

I mean this, truly, avoid it like the plague unless you've got friends to play with.

Great little game for relaxation. There's no real learning curve. Guide your character around and let it kill things. Pick upgrades you like, and have a good time! One big benefit is that runs only last a maximum of 30 minutes, which is really nice!

You can pick up the game, play a round or two, and be done before 30 minutes has elapsed. Or if you're having insane runs you might be there a maximum of 1 hour. The meta progression, in my opinion, is perfect. It's unobtrusive, and doesn't ruin the game, but if you play a lot you'll end up feeling just a bit stronger, with more consistent runs.

I wouldn't say this game is overly difficult, but it is absolutely a blast. And for it's price? It's a no brainer. Quick, easy fun!

Simple, clean fun. Good juicing, good squeezing. Lots of rolling, and lots of him and me, her and me.

On a real note, this is a great, autobattler with a lot of constant meta changes to keep the game fresh and exciting. There's never a dull moment. You can try and force the same build every time and be met with relative success. Or you can try and craft new builds and reset the meta yourself by beating current strong teams. Simple to pick up, easy to play, tough to master!

I know it's old and abandoned. But it really was a simple kinda fun game. Nothing crazy, just mindless simulator fun.

Well you can't save.....The save functionality doesn't work at all. So if you wanna play, I hope you're ready to do everything in one session. Because after that you're outta luck sadly.

Otherwise it's a fun enough game to pick up on sale. But I can't recommend a game that has a big save button that doesn't work.

Never played these until now. Working my way through I currently. Having a blast though. Definitely different than a modern JRPG, but still very fun. Makes you think since weapons aren't infinite use.

I'd say the only negative is nothing is explained, but that's just the era this game is from. It's not too hard to figure out as you play though by any means. Definitely a solid collection if the other 2 games are anything like the first so far!

Would love to give this game a positive review. It has it's moments, and can be quite fun. But there's been 0 support since launch. They did maybe 1 patch? And now they're releasing a second game? There's tons of bugs that are easily fixable that they just don't care to fix. It's really disappointing that a game with such potential to be called great is left at mediocre due to 0 support. They took their money and ran. And now they're releasing a second? As much as I'd love to support that I definitely will not.

While this game is a tad RNG dependent, it ends up being a lot of fun. If you just play casually, there's a lot of builds that can bring you to a victory. I think character usage is very even in the beginning difficulties.

If you want to run through the extra difficulties and make the game as hard as possible, I do think it lends itself to specific builds that aren't quite as forgiving.

I don't necessarily count that as a bad thing though. I'm trying to think of other rogue likes that have a high tier difficulty where any and all builds are viable, and I just can't think of any.

So if you want a nice casual game this is an easy pickup, nice and relaxed. And if you decide to push high difficulty you can make it through and power through the challenge.

The game is extremely enjoyable, but only if you already like rogue-like games and auto-battlers.
