Early Access Review
People are upset about the major update wiping progress. My greatest progress had me doing hazard 4 - I had just over half the meta-progress unlocked so I was only set back just a bit. It doesn't bother me personally I guess, I signed up for early access knowing things are going to change A LOT.

Hazard 4 is definitely harder, but I can still do hazard 3 easily with only about half the metaprogress and none of the new stuff unlocked. So I think they're just having bad runs, or maybe they grinded out metaprogress so hard that there was no option but to get a good run because of the luck stat being so high?

It's not as big of a deal as people make it out to be in my opinion. The game is clean, polished, and getting even more polished. There's a few bugs with the new update, but they're working on it.

Game is a great survivor game. Especially if you're jumping in the first time.

I'm having a great time. This is what a rogue-like tower defense should be. For a long while, there was a single game which dominated the market, and was awesome on launch - the developer since killed it with AWFUL patches.

This game has all the meat of that original game, and more. The progression feels so good. You learn about combos as you play and unlock more things. There's so much randomness but you can actually close a path off if you play your tiles right, leaving a HUGE strategy element to each tile placed. There's also the factor of closing off too many paths which can make the game 'easier' in a pathing sense, but the enemies become more difficult in response!

I'm not super far into the game, having only played the first level a few times, but after just a few tries I already have some decent meta progress building up to unlock more abilities and towers which is awesome and feels good. They've even thought ahead and have the ability to 'seal' some of your purchased upgrades so you don't have to muck up your building pool if you're trying to build certain combos!

This is an AWESOME tower defense, and the rogue like elements make it even better. If you were a fan of that original roguelike tower defense (you know the name, and I'm not going to sully this great game's name by even mentioning that abomination on it) then you're going to absolutely LOVE this.

This game gets an immediate thumbs up from me. I've only played one run, but that's all I needed.

This game is truly polished. It has great skills, synergies, items, meta progression, characters, variety, goals, challenges, and more.
In just one run, I got a feel of how the game wants you to build, how it helps you by suggesting things that might line up well with your build thus far, and also how you can pivot and switch in the middle.
The map being similar to rogue genesia is very welcome, as it isn't just Vampire Survivors, but adds a little extra Slay the Spire feel to things. An endless mode is still present, though!

On top of everything, this game does one thing that almost no other Bullet Heaven game does (I can think of maybe 2 that do it) is they offer you a compendium of all the skills, synergies, enemies, and more. Anything you could want to know about in the game exists in these compendiums. You can plan a build before you go into the game. Such a simple thing is so amazing for a game of this genre as, again, it basically doesn't exist in all the other games.

This game has so many paths of meta progression and unlocks, as well. It's staggering just how much replayability I can already see across the different skills, weapons, and artifacts/synergies.

If you're a fan of the bullet heaven genre, I can just tell this game is going to become huge. If it doesn't grow a decent audience it will truly be criminal. I'm planning to spend MANY more hours in this game.

Editing because I've run into a new problem: Disco is hot garbage. Impossible to play with any form of color blindness. Everything just muddles together, the timing is inconsistent across different notes, and it's just impossible. 0/10. Remove disco or add some color blind assistance and I'm back to 10/10. I'm still going to recommend this game, but good gravy.

This game is a true masterpiece. The story is incredible. The action is packed. The progress is smooth. The distractions are distracting.

There's no shortage of minigames, deep story, cutscenes, and brawling to go in this game.

The one thing I will caution you is that sometimes the game just doesn't accept your save, and other times it will crash and erase your most recent save. I've lost a lot of progress to this. Thankfully, the game is great enough to play through it and I've only lost 2 hours or so in one go. But, be warned, save often, and maybe even triple save!

Definitely a solid game. It's my first time finding a game like Loop Hero, as well. Personally, Loop Hero was one of my top 10 games of all time. It was a unique experience with a lot going on despite it's minimalist approach. Highly recommend you check it out for the best of the best experience.

Now, we're here with Heroes of Eternal Quest. So far, it seems like a fancying up of Loop Hero, but we sacrificed some things along the way. It expanded to have an attribute system, but we lost tiles having synergy. I was fully expecting some tiles to interact with each other and create new tiles, but that doesn't seem to be a thing in this game. Maybe I just haven't reached it yet? I'm only on floor 3, so it's possible it could be hidden a little deeper in the game.

Overall, the gameplay is the same satisfying loop from loop hero, and the game does well at making it interactive and entertaining. There are many characters, though I haven't found a good strategy for anyone besides the starting hero. I'm fully confident there are good strategies, I just haven't worked out what they are yet. There's a good handful of characters too, so I'm excited about the variety.

The one bad thing about this game - the dev listened and added in some QoL tooltips so now we know what stats like lifesteal mean! Phenomenal change.

I think there's a lot of potential here, and the devs just need to take the feedback (Which they are actively doing!!) and make it reality, and we'll be in great shape. For the price, this game is awesome and will scratch that Loop Hero itch if you got it. If you haven't played Loop Hero yet, I have to say that you should start there, then come here after. Though, if the devs put some time in, give some QoL and maybe some content updates, I could see this contending with Loop Hero. Maybe even spark some inspiration in others to start making more games with this gameplay loop. Again, this is only the first game I've found (there very well could be more I just haven't seen them) with the gameplay of Loop Hero.

It's decent fun. I've got tons of hours from 100%'ing it (just about to at the time of writing the review). It's not that it's a bad game, but it's very devoid of real content. The gameplay loop isn't bad, but it's pretty bland right now. What does this game need? I think it needs a better progression curve. It needs some secondary form of progress. Maybe a way we can dump gold into minor stat upgrades? Maybe every 1,000 monster kills is a 1% damage upgrade? I'm not sure what exactly is the answer, but there needs to be more meat to the game. Just getting to pick 3 towers each time, the limited skill points available at the end game without sinking thousands of hours, and the abrupt ending of the buyable skills from both gold and xp leaves you wanting more but with nothing in sight.

I really do hope this game gets more, because it's a good skeleton, but that's exactly what it is in current state. I'm a big idle game lover, so I hate to write a bad review, but I have to be honest as well.

Really loving this game. It's got a wonderful progression curve as well as challenges available when you like. I'm really enjoying the management experience of my pack, as well. I'm early in the game still, so maybe things will change, but I'm constantly re-evaluating my decisions and builds in these early runs. I see one item and think of two ways to build, but then find another, higher quality item, and that changes my mind instantly. It's an exhilarating rush of a game, and I can't wait to dig deeper!

A cool little game with a great premise. I'll admit, I know nothing about gears and torque and whatnot. Maybe a very rudimentary understanding of certain things go faster and others produce more 'power'. Past that, it's kinda lost on me. But I loved the look of the game and wanted to try it out.

Dev has tweaked a bunch of tutorials and made the game a little more ironed out and crisp. I really am loving the concept. It's definitely 'basic' in the sense that you can re-use the same strategy over and over again through the ascensions. Of course, time spent is king above all else in an idle clicker.

It's tough for me to want to say 'definitely buy' at a $5 price point. The dev has definitely put in work for this being worth $5 in my eyes, but to someone coming in post updates they may feel differently. I'm having fun enough with it as my background game that I check 1 or 2 times a day and let it sit otherwise. If you get it on sale, phenomenal, but I do think you could get $5 worth of enjoyment out of it as well!

10-28-24 Update:
Have to launch the game about 15 times to get it to play once just to suffer at the hands of garbage UI with 0 functionality... Not sure how it keeps getting worse, but sure enough, it keeps getting worse!

Funny thing, after all these months, and many updates, even an engine upgrade, we've surpassed awful engine and moved straight from Hunt Showdown to Bug Showdown 1896.

If you wanna deal with poor server performance and awful engine optimization riddled with bugs, hop in. If you want a polished piece of work, look elsewhere.

Mixed bag here, but ultimately, I do think this is a solid game. The mechanics of gun play feel incredibly crisp. The actual heisting process has evolved further than Payday 2 had in terms of in-game playing. I do miss some of the pre-planning things, but at the same time, I don't feel like the heists we have need them. I'd love to see it make a return at some point though! The heists themselves are all incredibly fun, as well. I haven't finished the final 2 yet, but the rest of them have been absolute gems, so I'm sure the final 2 are awesome.

There are a few things I'm upset about, but I can't say they're large enough to make me not recommend this game. That's a personal opinion, though. I understand people paid good money to play a game and they should be able to. The online only format is annoying. I'm hoping that maybe they can change this somehow to not require online if you play solo or something. I'm holding out hope for that. It's also frustrating that we lost the numbers from the equipment when creating a loadout. I really have no idea what the bars mean. I'm even a little confused on how the + and - works. A friend told me + implies it's always an improvement and - implies it's always negative. It just seems strange to me to have it like that, but it makes sense. Numbers were fairly straight forward.

I've seen some gripes about leveling weapons. I'm torn on it. I enjoy the new system, but I can see how others don't like it. It is a tad grindy. Being a JRPG player, grinding is nothing new to me, and I quite enjoy it. That's my stance. I don't think it's a negative, personally.

Overall, the game has been tons of fun. I plan to sink many hours into it just as I did Payday 2.I understand people's frustrations. I hope Starbreeze will address them as the game evolves.
