My reviews cover indie games that i have bought, had gifted to me and have been provided by developers for review. In this episode I check out a cozy new Simulation Game called Ale & Tale Tavern. This game was developed by Scienart Games and was published by GrabTheGames. Ive reviewed several of their other games including Himno, Gladiator Guild Simulator and Oxygen

Ale & Tale Tavern takes place in a Medieval Fantasy World, placing the player in the role of the new owner of a rundown old tavern. Your goal is to restore the Tavern to its former glory by catering to the local heroes and adventurers who have come searching for fortune and glory. Youll begin providing simple meals and basic brews to your customers, keeping them fed and happy along with kicking out unruly drunks and the occasional zombie. As your business acquires money and reputation you can invest in new furniture for your customers along with bigger and better machinery such as brewing stations and grills to cater for bigger crowds. Eventually you can begin to automate your operation by hiring staff and installing heavy machinery like automatic dishwashers, which free you up to work on setting up rooms in your Tavern and tending to your animals and farm.

In addition to the daily management of the Tavern, the game features a quirky cast of characters to meet along with their own quests to complete. There is also a daily job board that players can use to earn money through delivering food and hunting dangerous monsters. However the best feature of the game is the Co-operative mode, allowing you to manage your inn with a group of friends. I highly recommend Ale & Tale Tavern to Simulation Game enthusiasts or those looking for a casual game to enjoy with your friends.

In this episode I return to my favourite simulation game of all time, Gunsmith Simulator, developed by GameHunters and published by PlayWay S.A, the authority on Simulation Games. Specifically we are looking at the new Flint And Powder DLC for Gunsmith Simulator, which allows players to take a trip back in time, as they build, repair and maintain classic black powder firearms from around the world, which were the cornerstone of 18th century warfare. This includes the Miquelet Pistol, the Flintlock, the Derringer and the Brown Bess Rifle.

In addition to completing contracts for these new weapons, the true collector can also purchase priceless antique versions of each new firearm. These require players to carefully repair each piece by hand, but are a magnificent addition to your personal collection. Finally you can try out each of your new acquisitions at the range and test your marksman skills across several shooting challenges

This DLC adds many additional hours of enjoyment for the firearm enthusiast and is a perfect addition an already excellent Simulation Game. Its an essential purchase for firearms enthusiasts

This game was developed by Freemind SA and published by Playway SA, one of the best publishers for Simulation Games. Ive reviewed several of their other games including Medieval Machines Builder, Farmers Life and House Builder

Junkyard Builder, gives players the opportunity to manage their own Junkyard, taking common household garbage and scrap, then organising and recycling each item to earn a profit. As your wealth increases you will be able to explore a wide selection of locations, hunting down valuable materials like metal scrap, old furniture and vehicle parts. You will also be able invest in bigger and better machinery allowing you to process materials more efficiently, including Garbage Incinerators, Scrap Presses and Melting Pots. Crafty players can use their workshop to renovate old furniture and assemble old cars, selling them for more substantial profit, taking advantage of the market to buy and sell valuable commodities. Finally, the player can drastically speed up scrap processing via large scale machines such as Cranes and Car Crushers

Junkyard Builders biggest strength is in its flexible approach to the Simulation Genre. The player can enjoy the game at their own pace, whilst being given freedom to decide how they wish to run their operation. From repairing discarded furniture, to repairing and restoring vintage cars, there is a wide array of methods to turn a profit. This game will appeal to players who enjoy construction and engineering simulators but are looking for a more casual experience.

In this episode I check out a Post Apocalyptic Text Based RPG called Songs Of Rats. This game was developed by Tesseract Games, and is published by Salient Games, who released the popular horror game Gore Doctor. Songs Of Rats takes inspiration from classic choose your own adventure novels, with the player taking the role of a scavenger, who has chosen to leave their colony in search of the vital resources needed to save the people. Your adventure will take you across the Wreckage, a maze like expanse filled with priceless treasures, advanced technology and untold dangers. Each decision you make will uncover weapons and items to aid you on your quest, or lead you into combat against mutated creatures, technological horrors and other desperate scavengers. You can also find other survivors who can be convinced to join your party, bringing their own set of unique abilities to aid your quest

The games minimalist style and unique gritty art style matches the Sci-Fi Post Apocalyptic Setting perfectly, along with the roguelike nature of the game, where each run presents its own unique challenges. Players who are fans of old school Choose Your Own Adventure Novels like the Lone Wolf Series will definitely enjoy Songs Of Rats. I recommend giving it a try.

In this episode I check out a unique take on the Tower Defence Genre with Robin Hood: Sherwood Defenders. This game was developed by Mean Astronauts, and is published by Playway SA, who released several Simulation Indie Games ive previously reviewed including Medieval Machine Simulator, Gunsmith Simulator and Beer Factory. Robin Hood: Sherwood Defenders is a semi sequel to the developers previous game Robin Hood: Sherwood builders, with the player reprising the role of Robin Hood, the famous Outlaw. In this game your objective is to defend your new home from the forces of the Sheriff of Nottingham, who has raised an army to hunt down Robin Hood and his Merry Men.

The player will need to carefully manage their resources, building mines, lumber mills and banks to provide resources, and then to use these resources to build defences to repel invading forces. This will include defensive walls, archer towers and ballistas, as well as outfitting an army of your own to repel your foes. In addition to a selection of fiendish traps such as spikes and explosive barrels, the player can acquire a huge range of arrows which Robin can use to even the odds, including poisonous arrows, fire arrows and smoke bombs as well as trap arrows which can be deployed to provide a deadly surprise.

While the game only had a small selection of three levels, there is a wide array of unlockable weapons, defensive buildings and perks to unlock as you complete each run, as well as providing a huge challenge for the player. I recommend this game if your looking for a challenging Tower Defence game, or if you are a fan of the developers previous title

In this episode I check out a new strategy game ive been following for quite a while called Ved. This game is the breakout title by small developer Karaclan, and is published by Fulqrum Publishing, who released several excellent Indie Games ive previously reviewed including Forgive Me Father, Dread Templar and Stygian: Reign Of The Old Ones. Ved is a mix of Visual Novel and Turn Based Strategy Game, boasting a unique hand drawn art style. We follow the adventures of a young man called Cyrus, who was partially blinded early in life and has travelled to the city of Micropolis in order to make a fresh start. After a rescue attempt of another citizen goes wrong, Cyrus unlocks magical abilities allowing him to teleport between the real world, and a mysterious fantasy realm, where his coming has long been prophesised. Your actions, battles and decisions will determine the future of both realms, will you become a saviour, or a tyrant using your magical abilities for personal gain.

Veds boasts a story based visual novel format wih branching narrative, that changes based on the players decisions throughout the campaign. The game also utilizes a turn based combat system, where the player can unleash a wide array of powerful spells. With each battle youll gain magical power, which can be used to upgrade your village in the magical realm, unlocking more powerful spells to help you in future battles. While the games story feels a little disjointed and confusing in the opening act, it does get far better further on into the game, so if your a fan of Visual Novels or turn based strategy games, or if your simply looking for a game with a unique look and feel, i recommend giving Ved a try.

In this episode I check out one of the most original little indie games ive played this year with Obenseuer. This game was developed and published by Loiste Interactive, who also released the puzzle game Infra. Obenseuer takes place in the titular town of Obenseuer, located in an unnamed country in the Soviet Union. The town name translates to Open Sewer, an accurate name given the town is a cesspit. The citizens suffer from poverty, crime and corruption. To make matters worse a deadly disease runs rampant through Obenseuer, spread by a virulent mushroom plague. The player finds themselves trapped in the town courtesy of the corrupt government, who have placed you in charge of a derelict apartment block.

Your objective is to restore the apartments, thus providing a place for the citizens to reside as they eke out their miserable existence. In order to do this youll need to make raise money any way you can. Will you be a law abiding citizen, working an honest job as a labourer or office worker, using your wage to build a home for your fellow citizens, or will you stray from the straight and narrow, stealing, wheeling and dealing ilicit substances to build your own criminal empire, whilst exploiting the citizens of Obenseuer as you see fit. But beware, while the Police have little interest in enforcing the law, if your actions draw too much attention youll find yourself incarcerated.... or worse.

This game is one of the most creative and innovative indie games ive played, with the developer creating a sandbox for the player to explore in any way they choose. There are a huge amount of activities you can engage in to earn your fortune, from Mining, Metalwork, Woodwork, Farming, Cooking and trading in legal or less legal commodities. Players will find dozens of hours of enjoyment in Obenseuer. If your a fan of similar games like Drug Dealer Simulator this game is an absolute must play. Highly Recommended

My reviews cover indie games that i have bought, had gifted to me and have been provided by developers for review. In this episode I check out another new City Builder Game called Builders Of Egypt.

Builders Of Egypt takes place in Ancient Egypt, with the player being charged with establishing the Egyptian Empire. Youll start from humble beginnings, creating huts from simple materials like clay and grass, from here youll build wealth and prestige by taking advantage of valuable minerals through mining and manufacturing priceless artifacts. As your kingdom grows, youll need to establish relationships with other factions, creating trade routes to exchange commodities. However your biggest challenge will always be the unforgiving environment, with deadly heat and lack of water being a constant threat. Players will need to carefully plan their settlement, ensuring access to water and farms to provide for your growing population

Unfortunately Builders Of Egypt did have a rough release, with the developers advising that the game did not meet the expectations for sales, this is due to a number of performance issues and bugs which affected the players ability to complete the campaign. This also led to the developer shutting down operations, but they have committed to leaving the game in a playable state, which is very commendable. However due to the issues i found whilst making this video i cannot in good conscience, recommend the game in its current state. I do wish the developers the best in their future endeavours and I hope they are able to contribute to the Indie Gaming Market

Unfortunately despite enjoying the game I cannot in good conscience recommend it. This is simply to due to sheer quantity of bugs found during my gameplay experience including Performance Issues, Stability Issues and Game Breaking Errors.
This combined with the severe balance issues in the talent tree makes for a frustrating experience.
I understand the developers have acknowledged these issues and are working on the game so I will revisit my verdict as the game evolves.

In this episode I check out a new roguelike Extraction Game called Hyper Light Breaker. This game was developed by Heart Machine, who also developed Hyper Light Drifer, the first game in the series, and is published by Arc Games, who also released popular indie games including the Torchlight and Remnant series. Hyper Light Breaker takes place before the events of Hyper Light Drifter, and is set in the Overgrowth, a once verdant place which has been assaulted by the Abyss King and his generals known as the Crowns. The player controls a member of the Breakers, the guardians of the Overgrowth, as they battle the Abyss King and his minions. The game takes place in procedurally generated Overgrowth, as they explore for weapons and resources, battle the minions of the Abyss King and face off against each of the four Crowns. Success will allow you to challenge the Abyss King in a final duel, but failure will result in the Overgrowth being reset, with the player required to once again fight their way to the Abyss King.

The game features an extraction shooter like experience, with players required to master the games challenging combat system, carefully timing attacks, dodges, blocks and parries, as well as deploying your ranges weapons and special abilities to even the playing field. Each successful extraction will amass more resources which you can use to purchase weapons and items to assist your current run, as well as permanent upgrades that you can carry accross to future attempts. The boss battles against the Crowns are a highlight of the game, requiring high grade equipment and serious dedication to conquer.

Unfortunately im hesitant to recommend the game in its current state. There has been a massive series of serious bugs plaguing the game including performance issues, clipping problems, broken quests and a gamebreaking bug that prevented me from accessing the game. Furthermore there were some poor design decisions, with critical abilities such as first aid being locked behind upgrades. The developer has acknowledged the current state of the game, and are actively working toward a more stable state so my current recommendation is to wait for further updates.

My reviews cover indie games that i have bought, had gifted to me and have been provided by developers for review. In this episode I check out a brand new minimalist Soulslike called Tyrants Realm. This game is the breakout title from Team Tyrant, and is published by Skystone Games, who also released the masterful zombie survival game Undying. The game takes inspiration from Classic PS1 Era Games creating a soulslike, with a minimalist look and feel.

Tyrants Realm follows an unknown prisoner who has broken free in order to hunt down the Tyrant, a evil wizard with the ability to manipulate reality. With nothing but a few simple weapons and your determination to succeed, youll battle your way through six unique zones, including an egyptian tomb, a snow covered fortress, a mine overrun with the undead and finally the Tyrants Realm, a gigantic castle where youll face off against the Tyrant in a final duel. With each failure youll get one step closer to freedom, unlocking powerful new weapons, armour and perks to aid in your next attempt.

While the game is a little on the short side, the game features a roguelike progression system boasting over a hundred weapons and items to unlock as well as three separate difficulty levels to conquer. If your a soulslike enthusiast like myself, or your looking for games from the PlayStation 1 Era, then you should absolutely check out Tyrant Realm. Best of all, the game is a bargain at only $12
