Super meat boy is a game that I've been hearing about for a while, and yet I've just now have picked it up and played it. Just an hour or two in, it's easy to see why its reached its legendary status. The controls, pacing, and level design are all some of the best that I've ever experienced. It takes no time at all to get used to the controls, and by the end of the first world you should already have a clear idea of all of meat boy's abilities and limits. The levels themselves are all very simple and short, usually about 30 seconds on a successful attempt, never going past a minute. Which is good, because the levels are filled to the brim with hazards that can easily one-shot you if you so much as stub your toe on them. The stunts the game wants you to perform in the later levels are so precise its almost maddening. In fact, the level before the the final boss, omega, took me almost 2 hours alone. Omega is actually one of the best examples of what a final level should be. It's deceptively simple, only using 1 or 2 of the many gimmicks introduced throughout the game. It could easily be mistaken for one of the first levels in the game at first glance. But the jumps that are asked of you are so tight and push meat boy to his absolute limits, in both big and small jumps. After you conquer this grueling challenge, however, the game is nowhere near over. If you complete a stage fast enough, you'll unlock a harder, remixed version of that stage in the dark world. and then there's an extra, super challenging bonus world after the main campaign, the cotton alley, which makes everything that came before it look like Kirby's Epic Yarn. There's also warp zones, which can be accessed by getting to a certain point on a level within a short time limit. These warp zones lead to harder levels with an 8-bit style, and some even unlock extra characters that have different properties than meat boy, such as slower run speed in exchange for a short hover. While it is cool to expirement with them, I wouldn't recommend using them on your first playthrough, as the last 2 worlds force you to use meat boy, and getting very familiar with his physics will help a lot. These characters can also be unlocked by finding enough bandages, which are collectables hidden in a good chunk of the levels. Needless to say, this game has tons of content and well worth the price tag.

There's more to a game than gameplay, believe it or not, and while it's not as profound, super meat boy does well in other departments too. The visuals are good, but nothing outstanding. I can't really explain it but it definitely looks like an early 2010s game. The sound, however, is top notch. Meat boy sounds exactly as you expect him to; wet and squishy. Explosion are nice and crunchy, and demons sound demonic. The music ranges from good to amazing, which is nice since you'll be hearing the songs on repeat a hell of a lot. Speaking of hell and songs, the world Hell had my favorite tracks in the game, but everything is worth a listen. From a technical standpoint, the game isn't perfect. There were a few points in the game where the hit boxes of hazards didn't seem to line up with the artwork. It caused a couple of deaths but more frequently it let me stand somewhere I really shouldn't be. It was only a few runs out of the 2000+ that I had, so it isn't a huge deal, especially considering the age and the fact that it's an indie game. The story is very simple, which isn't uncommon for this genre, but it manages to pack in a load of personality with cutscenes at the beginning and end of each world. They have no dialogue, but rely more on character expressions and movement to show humour and plot progression. I definitely had a couple of chuckles with it.

Overall, Super Meat Boy is an amazing game that well deserves its legendary status, even if it has some minor flaws. Anybody who is a fan of platformers or getting kicked in the ♥♥♥♥ should play this sometime in their life.

Really, the tagline says it all.
"POWERFUL enough for a developer SIMPLE enough for a child"
The pricetag is a little steep, however. If you actually want to create a full RPG, go right ahead and buy it. If you just want to screw around for a couple hours, maybe reconsider.
What they give you to use is really all you need, other than some creativity.

Really bad. I wouldn't recommend it if it was free.

I honestly can't see why people like this game. I don't know where to begin with this review, there's just too many problems with it.

The platforming, the meat of this game, is inconsistent. I often find myself lost as to where to go, which is bad considering how linear the levels are. A lot of the time Faith fails to grab onto pipes and ledges, making me wish that there was a manual option. Jumping off of ledges feels clunky too, often making me look at my feet to make sure I'm the closest to the edge as possible.

The speed and flow doesn't feel right. The game has lots of ways to make the player think they're going faster than they actually are, such as changing the FOV, or tilting the camera when you turn. Many, many times the flow is broken by the slow as hell animations for climbing and jumping, and the game hardly ever let's the player chain together multiple platforming skills. the only movement that feels natural is wall running and jumping. The acceleration mechanic is a cool concept, but the way it works combined with the level design makes me wish for a dedicated sprint button.

The climbing needs tons of polish; the camera is very restricted and jumping while climbing will only work when you look directly at the next platform the game wants you to jump to. The speed of the climbing is terrible, as mentioned above, and the precision is inconsistent.

The level design is just bad. the game often shoves you in a building that feels claustrophobic, allowing for very little freedom in your movement, then immediately puts you on rooftops where you don't know where to go next due to it's vastness. after the first level or two, runner vision is a joke, often pointing you towards platforms and pipes that don't help you progress in the slightest. I often find myself relying on the help button that points your camera directly at the next objective, but it feels like cheating. In areas where combat is required, it's often a mix of too cramped and too open, making you hide in one corner untill the enemies come to you.

The combat is frusrating. The game is way too picky about when you need to disarm the enemies, and that's the only way to get guns. If you can't manage to get a gun, you wait in a corner until an enemy comes to you. Then you do your 3 punch combo twice and repeat. It's nearly impossible to take on two enemies at once, since one will shoot you down while you melee the other. The way the levels are set up, skipping enemies you're supposed to kill is very hard, but you can't kill any enemies that the game doesn't tell you to kill, even if they seem very killable.

The graphics is the only thing I can say good about. The game looks great, but it's nothing revolutionary. just standard realistic graphics with a unique colour palette. But good graphics don't make a good game. some people seem to forget that. (plus i find that the red is a little too bright at times.)

Other problems that aren't long enough to be their own catagory: Merc is Extremely annoying, either telling you what's going to happen one second before it does, telling you to hurry up, telling you stuff you already know, or telling you that he's losing you, only to return 5 seconds later. The voice acting is subpar, but that's more of a nitpick. the reaction time is almost useless outside of disarming enemies. The slang the runners use is stupid and annoying.

TL;DR, the game is what you'd expect from EA. a game with great graphics without a lot of polish the game needs that the company will never add. I feel it's a cool and unique concept pulled off very badly, making the game a 2/5 at best.

Pretty good, TBH. But I reccommend only playing up to episode 4. After that, it's a completely different story that you have to pay extra for.

Ori is a beautiful game. Heartwarming story, moving soundtrack, and clean controls and mechanics.
9/10 would cry again

I get that this is a "classic", but if you aren't playing this for nostalgic reasons, don't bother getting it. There's almost no story to it, the gameplay is boring and repetitive, and the controls and mechanics are really bad.

What the FRICK just happened?? IDC if the game is built differently from the first, this game is INSANE in multiple ways. I can't find words to describe how this game makes me feel. I DEFINATELY recommend for people that like top-down shooters and don't mind cutting people in half with katana.
