Early Access Review
I will split this review in 2 parts:

1. A kind of buyers beware.

The reason why im writing this review so early is because the devs have just announced that they are already working on a new game. With the state of this game that is quite disheartening to see. So for that reason I would recommend everybody to hold of buying this game to see how the quality and quantity of updates progresses.

2. The actual review.
At the moment im unable to recommend this game.
While there are a lot of good ideas here and a plethra of content, most of it is quite clunky and not thought to the end.
The worst part of the game is by far the inventory management. I cant remember a game where i found going through my stuff more annoying than here. Just the message that i cant pick an item up because my inventory is full makes me want to quit.

Basically every item can have several prefixes. Say you have Wood and Dried wood. In your inventory you can put up to 4 stacks with different prefixes of the same item in 1 slot. And it stiff sucks. I have like 10 different kinds of claws lying around. You can of course remove these prefixes but that requires choosing them, clicking on the button to remove prefixes, confirming the removal and then manually clicking all 4 stacks and moving them together so they become one.

What makes it even worse is that crafted items retain these prefixes even when the stat change doesnt have any effect on the item itself. So using all your stone to build a stone wall may result in multiple stacks of stone walls with different prefixes. Did I mention that each stack also requires their own hotbar slot when trying to equip that item. So if you equip a food item, run out of that food item with that prefix and want to use that same food item with a different prefix you have to reequip it? Also did i mention that in chests and other storage options you cant put the same item with different prefixes in the same slot to save space? Great isnt it?

But enough of the inventory management. Apart from that the game gives absolute freedom on what you want to do. In my opinion thats more of a hinderence than a positive point as its quite easy to get lost and taking a while to figure out what youre supposed to be doing next. It doesnt help that later on the game doesnt explain a lot of game mechanics to you.

Just as a FYI.. this review is getting hidden as a "off topic" review lol.

Another warning to buyers, they have released a game before with really low reviews BECAUSE it was left unifinished.

I disagree with Velarieth. This isn't Microsoft Corporation, a WORLD WIDE multifaceted organization that frankly runs half the world right now. This is a dev team making a game. And they haven't done that. They are getting paid for a game they haven't made. And like so many EA games that have come before, there's a good chance it WONT get completed. The fact is, they are most likely starting a new project so they can double their income. Just because they have already been paid doesn't mean they are obligated to finish the product people are paying for. There's a difference between pessimism and realism. But everyone has different vantage points.

@Fighter5810 Imagine how much better Windows could be if Microsoft closed down all their other businesses and rolled every single developer they had into Windows development.

Wait, no that's dumb and not how development works. Hiring people just for the sake of having more heads on a project means absolutely nothing. The team that works on a product hires based on need and capacity.

You are reaching so hard to try and make this bigger than it is. Chill out, they are still working on Craftopia. If they lie about that, then it will become obvious. But speculating what is going on when they have explicitly answered the concern is just silly pessimism.

I don't think people would be as suspicious, if these guys didn't already have an abandoned game still on sale here... They've done it once. No reason to think they won't do it again.

@Valerieth thats like saying the Valheim devs hired 3 new guys that started work on a second game. Fact of the matter is these people could work on Craftopia, a game that is already being sold, and finish it more quickly.

If Craftopia was in a decent state right now then quite honestly I wouldnt care if they had a second team work on a different game, but at this point to split your forces to work on 2 games leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

The developers have said they hired a separate team to work on the other game.

This very thing is why I never buy any game in Early Access anymore. Been burned too many times.

I suspected my first impressions were not wrong. When I refunded this months ago.I told myself "Its early access" and figured they would get around to improving it, but I wasn't gonna get stuck with it if they didn't... Well. /shrug Thanks for the review.
