a very beautiful modern take on a classic game. the bright colors and beautiful sprite work breathe a lot of life into the low-poly style. quality of life features like auto-fire are huge upgrades. i'd love to see more mechanics brought over from star fox like the somersault or all-range mode.

strong character writing, and actual continuity with the other games. sonic's ego is definitely toned down, and the other characters are way less one-note. the movement feels good and can be tweaked a lot in the options menu if there's something that you want to adjust. i wish the cyber levels were a bit longer or that there were more of them, but the highlight of the gameplay is definitely the open world. as always, the music goes hard. best 3D sonic game in a very long time, and definitely worth a buy

note, though that some people have been having trouble with getting generic controllers and ultrawide screens to work with the game.

Needs some bug fixing. I can't play for more than a few minutes without getting stuck in loading screens. Otherwise this would be an extremely fun experience, especially if you have VR. I don't think my problem is extremely common, but it still really sucks for the few it affects.

In singleplayer, the AI is lackluster even on higher difficulties, making domination victories an absolute breeze. Once you get about 2/3 of the way through a singleplayer game, you have a pretty good idea of whether or not you're going to win, and the rest is just tediously churning through the rest of the turns.
That being said, singleplayer is still a lot of fun and it is much better than in Civ V. With the quickly growing modding community, whatever you don't like about the game can (usually) be patched up with the press of a button.

With all of that, the main reason I love this game so much is for the multiplayer. It's not as fun to just join random people, but if you get a group of friends together to play, then this game improves exponentially. Secret deals against your friends, forming and breaking alliances just to pull ahead, and essentially playing one massive, complicated game of king of the hill makes this one of my favorite multiplayer experiences and one of the best strategic games out there. I would definitely reccommend this game if you and some friends are interested in any of that.
