Honestly, this is a must-buy for anyone who enjoys party-based RPGs. The amount of build customization is insane, and the rogue-lite nature gives it near-infinite replayability.

Story:
The story of this game is pretty average, but it fulfills its purpose. There's evil in the world, and it grows stronger if you ignore it. Follow the main quest to uncover its lairs and progress towards the source.

Combat:
The combat is designed around a party of 3 characters, though you can play with fewer if you really want to ramp the difficulty. Turn-based, where the turn initiative is based on your speed stat, but you can use various weapon abilities to slow down enemies or speed up allies. The damage feels good, and the ragdoll on defeated enemies feels satisfying.

Sound design:
Hits feel satisfying, the Minstrel/Busker attacks being guitar/lute riffs are a nice touch, and the background music is calm and enjoyable.

Graphics:
It's a low-poly style, but everything feels unique. They manage to get details across with simple (but well-made) models rather than high-resolution textures. Lighting is atmospheric, and everything is interesting to look at.

Unlocks:
The game will pay out Lore Books that will allow you to unlock game content from the main menu. These can only be used on playthroughs after you have unlocked them (as far as I know). Everything from weird weapons and armor to new and unique map tiles can be purchased with this token-like currency. There are even a few classes to be had this way. Worry not, however, as you can get Lore Books by simply playing through a game normally, or even using one of the non-story gamemodes that have a higher payout percentage.

Difficulty:
Honestly, the difficulties are actually pretty nice. Apprentice, the lowest tier, is good for you first *several* playthroughs. The Journeyman difficulty is definitely challenging (at least for me). I haven't tried any higher, though I'm positive the 3rd difficulty level is absolutely insane. Additionally, you can set up House Rules for things like Chaos frequency (how often the game tries to corrupt the world), starting Lives (you normally start with 6, 2 for each character), or Economy Inflation (how much more expensive things get as you progress). These do affect your Lore Book payout, but the minimum is still 50% of the regular gameplay on Journeyman, so it's not like you can't progress at all on super-duper easy mode.

This game has gotten me through some hard times, both pc-related and life-related. Honestly one of the best purchases I've ever made. Hell, I'm playing it right now actually, just opened the store page and saw I hadn't left a review.

tl;dr For the King is a fantastic turn-based, 3-character party RPG with randomized maps and semi-random loot. You won't be disappointed.
