I aim to do two things in this review, firstly to clear up common misconceptions about the game, and secondly to provide an insight of what I think of the game.

The first misconception I’d like to talk about is the portal “gun”. When I first installed the game, I was quite keen on trying out this gun. To my disappointment, this portal gun is not actually a gun in the traditional sense. This gun fires “portals” and by using left and right click, you can create two portals. Walking through one portal will lead to the other portal.

I’d also like to point out that this portal gun cannot do anything besides from shooting portals. In my opinion, it’s a bit of false advertising to call this thing a “gun” since it doesn’t fire any bullets. This certainly confused me, and I was extremely disappointed when I found out I couldn’t kill anything with this thing.

Now, for my opinion on the game as a whole.

Something which this game lacks is weapon variety. I think that this is a shame, since I think this game could be very fun if other weapons were included (like AK-47’s ect); this would allow the player to use the normal weapons to shoot at the turrets. Valve could also include some more enemies in the game, this would create some intense firefights and improve the game as a whole.

The game is way too confusing and I’ve never managed to beat it because of this. Adding some weapon variety, making the levels less confusing and adding a good variety of enemies would have made this game significantly better.

There are plenty of better games out there. Go and spend your money elsewhere.
