Ninja Gaiden but actually good and Metroidvania.

This game makes a great first impression, and quickly. A short tutorial and you're already sent off into the first level, hype chiptune music blaring, to put your skills to the test. The obstacles and enemies provide great execution for your "Cloudstep" ability, which grants you a double jump each time you strike something. Enemies that take multiple hits to kill, and ones that spit fireballs twice, there is ample opportunity to take advantage of this power. It's not about careful timing or positioning, but rather seeing if you know the situation you're in and what combination of buttons to press.

And there's not a dull moment! Along with the usual appeal of adapting to different environments that will require new tools alongside your old ones, the game loves to surprise you. It interacts with its music in cool ways and isn't afraid to stray a bit from the norm here and there. Thankfully, it doesn't take away from the gameplay; only compliments it, so I doubt it'd get old (unless several other games copied the idea).

However, it's around the second half where things start to slow down, and while not a terrible twist, I think it could've been executed a little better. Don't wanna spoil it, so all I can say is that I wish there was teleporting across multiple spots in each area, as opposed to just one spot. This makes me not wanna replay the game unless it was for achievements; just too tedious to travel areas I've visited on foot before several times.

Despite the big shift in pacing, it's still worth experiencing. I strongly recommend this game even if you prefer yours to be more focused on what they wanna be. It's very eventful, and you might find a lot to like about it.
