About the mod
About this mod.

While playing Shadowrun and working on my writing slowly the book "Codename Cherise" and the world and looks of Shadowrun merged. The streets and atmosphere I found in Shadowrun I eventually couldn't see separate from the scenes in my book. And while Shadowrun was based in Seattle and Berlin and didn't come across as distinctively Asian at first I could imagine the different set pieces working together to emulate the style that's prevalent to my book.
(And as if predicted, Shadowrun Hong Kong was announced a year later, haha!)

Working on the second novel of the Codename Cherise series and messing around with the Shadowrun editor I came up with a side story. A story about a random job Cherise once did. Purely for fun and interest I set out to craft a world that would eventually be able to support Cherise her step from words and paper to a playable character. Talking and brainstorming with two of my closest friends allowed me to come up with a new character that would join the story in book two. While working on the editor as a side project eventually the story progressed to a certain point and I realized the new character could easily feature in this project. A new idea took form and the hobby became a mission.

The story kept evolving and the amazing editor allowed me to build what I thought of and slowly more and more depth was added to the project. Theories were thought up, storylines were explored. I couldn't deny it, this would be a prequel story to the first Codename Cherise novel. The title was certain: Codename Cherise: The Galaxy Case.

A whole other challenge was found in writing a character that would be featured almost as much as Cherise herself and originally wouldn't show up until the second book.
The first book had been finished and printed, pushing me to double check all the facts and storylines as I shuffled them around. My greatest challenge, I thought at the time, until I had to learn how to work with triggers and other technical aspects of the editor.

Shadowrun has not only offered me immense pleasure by playing the game but more than most games it has inspired me. While playing and experiencing Seattle and Berlin I became inspired. Ideas for scenes popped into my head and while the whole process happened naturally it still took about seven months to fully finish the modification.

Seeing your protagonist come alive and seeing it move on the digital screen is spectacular but it paled in comparison when I started to build the world. Transferring the thought up images to a viewable scene as it were. The editor had a wild array of props that allowed me to combine them to create the atmosphere of Tokyo I described in my book. A cooperation between words and images had begun.
As had my addiction to the editor.

Looking back now it is a great pleasure to share this world of mine with all of you.
Remember that this mod might not be what you've come to expect from the Shadowrun games. It's a story, Cherise's story. A chronological situation that slowly unveils itself as you progress. And while the story is mostly linear, there are some twists and player choices to be made. How much you eventually learn about Cherise and her world is up to the choices you make.

And last but not least I'd like to thank Harebrained Schemes.
For the game itself, naturally, but also for sharing the editor with the community. For having faith as a company that your customers and fans will use it respectfully. Stimulating sharing of tools and ideas and supporting the creative ventures some other Shadowrun fans had undertaken. A forum filled with helpful and enthusiastic fans that answered my every question and dozens of superb player created stories were already available to experience. A great combination between professionals and amateurs that share one great passion. Thank you for the trust, thank you for the freedom. Getting workspace without strings attached is quite the opposite of what a lot of companies do nowadays. This only speaks volumes of their team and company.

That freedom and passion eventually pays for itself when mods become finished and you try to talk friends into playing your created story, gently 'forcing' them to buy the base game. If just to allow them to experience the wonderful world you did and then see your take on it. A win-win situation for both.

And I'll keep doing that because the Shadowrun games deserve to be played, as do the stories the fans have been creating.

Enjoy the modification.
Enjoy Tokyo.
Enjoy the world of Codename Cherise.
