Q&A
If I were to work on an accented English voice, could I also slip in some lines that use my native tongue?
Yes.

Can I record lines for an accented English voice, as well as an alternate language as separate voices?
Yes. This is also encouraged if you're bilingual. However, If you speak English fluently to the point that it sounds like a native speaker, an accented English voice may not be the best thing to put your time into. Part of the appeal to them is that they contain subtle differential pronunciations typical of someone that may only be learning English, so you can still tell where someone may be from just by hearing them speak.

Would you accept imitated accents?
Considering the popularity of >this mod<, and the fact that nobody is an actual pirate, sure.
However, you should be reasonably confident in your ability, and its consistency. I won't be removing voices after adding them, unless it's at the request of the voice contributor.
Also, imitated voices will be marked with a (i) next to the voice in the mod description.

Can I contribute more than one imitated accent?
Yes.

What are the possible reasons for rejection?
1. Audio too low quality (bad microphone, reverb, background noise, etc.)
2. Imitated accent not consistent and/or accurate to the target region.
3. Violation of the ground rules in the guidelines.

Will I be paid real-world money for contributing?
By me? No.
This project is meant to allow people a means to volunteer their voice for implementation. With that said, I can still put a 'Donate' link under your name in the credits if you've got a Patreon, or the like.

This game is 9 years old, do you really expect that many people to volunteer?
No. Which is probably for the best. The only people that are still here are the fanatics like me that really want to add to this games content.

Will this mod actually go anywhere?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What about the UK, Dutch, and Chinese voices from the original mod?
Could not find contact info for any of the original VAs. If any of the VAs see this, please let me know if you'd be okay with me including your voice here.

What about the Russian voices from the original mod?
Go >here< or >here<.

What about the Polish voices from the original mod?
Go >here<.

I noticed that the example script has no swearing. Why is that?
The ultimate rule is that profanity is allowed in any voice you contribute, you just have to improvise it into your lines. I did not write any in the example script due to personal reasons.

I would advise you to reconsider adding swearing on the example script as to not confuse any who might submit their contribution. If you have some moral issues with this well I can just say that even though it is pretty black and white morally, this is a game about war after all. You're already finding joy out of seeing sentient beings shot at and die so...

Also, I have another suggestion. I would recommend not explicitly encouraging but nevertheless allowing non-English words/phrases in English submissions. As a bilingual person myself I say it is just silly. Most people who speak two or more languages usually throw bits of their native one as a slip of the tongue, not on purpose, as it would just confuse others and honestly, I think it just makes you try too hard to be unique and 'quirky'.

I agree with this, and I'll change it. I mainly wrote that because I'm so used to hearing the Counter Strike voices from the mod I made sometimes revert to their home tongue. The French voices did it the most.

Valve's direction with those voices were probably either, someone that was still learning English and only knew it to a moderate level, or someone that was only speaking English so the radio operator (or player in this case) could occasionally understand what they were trying to say. Either way, it gets the point across pretty easily that someone hails from a specific place when they sometimes speak a different language, and people seem to really like the CS:GO mod even if it might not actually portray the target accents very well. Some of the Long War voices did this too, so I just figured it was normal.

The part about profanity in the example script is kind of complicated for me. I'm aware that this game involves killing sentient beings, and that said beings are also probably acting against their own will (e.g. Chimera Squad). But I grew up in a somewhat strict Christian household, so the subject is pretty sensitive. However, you will never hear me say that a VA needs to tone down the swearing, as I'm aware that it can increase the impact and overall affect of a voice line. The ground rules in the guidelines even say it's allowed. Not to mention, the base-game voices already do it plenty anyway. I just don't do it myself.

I'm also aware that typing profanity probably isn't the same as saying it aloud. It's a multifaceted subject for me, which is why I wanted to spare everyone from giving out my life story. This project is supposed to be about a mod for a video game, after all.

Swearing is allowed, but it's not in the example script. End of discussion.
