Total War: ROME REMASTERED

Total War: ROME REMASTERED

Vanilla Plus
Some suggestions
First of all I want to say that I really like your mod idea! Combing the Vanilla feeling with more historical accuracy and new factions is really something I was missing. Still it would certainly also be great if some of your new unit models could get permission to be used by the mod "Rome: Expanded."

Anyway there are already a few things that i would like to suggest as a change:

1. Currently the ptolemy dynasty still uses the old akward egyptian portraits. I would really like seeing them using the greek portraits Also the buildings beeing mostly hellenic like for the Seleucids would be really nice.

2. I noticed that you still use the macedonian phalanx formation for many factions (Carthagians, Illyrians, Atropatene, Libya and Nabatea shouldn't have this formation at all)
This formation should only be used by the phalanglite units.
Hoplites and other units that currently uses the macedonian phalanx formation should be changed to the hoplite style phalanx (using the shieldwall formation)

After 227 BC the Greeks also started using the macedonian pike phalanx, but also kept the hoplite phalanx so they should get both units available.

I know that you don't plan to make it perfectly historical accurate, but I really think the macedonian phalanx formation should only be used by phalanglite units.

3. The Seleucids should also get access to "Thureos" units.
Pontus shouldn't have Chariot archers.
I am not sure if you want to keep some strange units like "woman warriors", "Head Hurlers" and more...

Thank you anyway for this great mod!

@SirWitan Apologies firstly for the late response. To address your suggestions:

I have no idea how to share the models but I have no issue with them being used. I daresay some my techniques to create them are not up to standard but anyone who want to use my ideas to expand or improve feel free. This is all I have tried to do with the original

I will check the portraits but I believe I added greek portraits into the mix. I didn't remove all 'egyptian' portraits as it was clear that many native egyptian born noble filled the ranks of both the armies and the officers so wanted to reflect this. The 'Greekness' also faded with time so wanted this to also be prominent. Some of the buildings also reflect greek culture above a certain level, namely militia. The more 'professional' levels of infrastructure look greek on the UI. Sadly the 3D aspect is beyond me.

The hoplite phalanx was kept as it's too much of a core part of the the gameplay and balance. I appreciate there is good evidence to favour a shieldwall but as some barbarian units now have this it would make them less unique to play.

Thureos units weren't added to Seleucia due to the fact they have legionaries. I changed them for a more appropriate model, namely principes, as this is much closer to what they probably were as opposed to plate armoured legionaries of late antiquity. Again a slightly unique unit for the faction instead of cut and paste for all greek factions.

I generally don't remove a unit unless it is just too outlandish or feel unique/critical to gameplay. Pontus did use chariots so chariot archer are at least 'feasible' in the same way swordswomen were more feasible than screechers as a battlefield unit. There are dozens of examples of warrior women from scythia to Britain in grave findings. Headhurlers are stupid but Briton has a limited roster and couldn't really think of another unit to replace them that wasn't just as fictitious.

Hopefully this explains some of the thinking. Rest assured almost everything was evaluated and considered when creating this mod. I do feel there is a Vanilla 'plus plus' that could be done with a more accurate tone but I am happy with things for now.

Thanks for playing!
